How playable is this game without spending real $$?

Title says it all. How playable is the game without spending real money. I dont care about having the best of the best of the best either, just normal old gameplay.

    It is not necessary to spend real money in game, as any of the items which have been purchased through the cash shop can be sold onto other players.

    It is also possible for you to buy real money with ingame money from other players who are willing to put it in the Auction house.

    And if you do not wish to do either of the above, you can still play the game with no restrictions whatsoever - you can still fly, access everything everyone else can, and do the same quests as everyone else :).

    it's hopeless.

    seriously.

    play a veno only if you wish to play without cash shop items, and even then you'll be scrabbling to make ingame gold to buy cs items from player shops.

    its really hard without the cash shop, i have barely any money to buy myself pots.

    It's very playable. The only thing you have to "worry" about is Inventory and Bank extentions, if you're a fully fledged crafter. Even then you have alts to mail things to or have friends directly transfer. Most cash shop items can be bought through other players for IG money, mainly the HP and MP charms.

    Other than that. It's not a big deal.

    ignore anyone who thinks it's doable.

    it simply isn't - you'll be subpar, poor, and useless to anyone for t wars, pvp, boss fights, aoe parties, HH, and anything else.

    Well, okay it depends on what you want to do anyway. Personally, I am going to stay away from TW and all manner of PvP related things (I get put off by e-peen). I play this game for the PvE aspect.

    For that, you definitely don't have to buy anything from the shop, you can get by without, just more slowly, that's all. You don't have to buy mana potions, you can craft them yourself, for free!

    I got to level 50 on the PW-MY server in a few months without spending real money or buying anything from the cash shop. So, I recommend playing for a while and seeing how you feel.

    Personally, I bought some money on this because I wanted to reward the hard work that people put into this game. I never want something for nothing, but that's my decision :). I may not agree with the pricing strategy, but that just means I won't buy more Zen.

    at the end of the day, you asked if it is playable; it is possible to get to max level and have all the gear you want without spending real money.

    L50 is n00b, after L60 anyone without cash shop items is useless.

    Perfect World compared to other Free to Play games, is definitely much easier to play as a non-cash shop user.

    There are Free to Play games out there that don't even allow cash shop items to be traded, or offer premium features for a price.

    All the cash shop items in Perfect World can either be purchased from other players in game, or you can even purchase ZEN from other players using the auction house system.

    I was wondering how long someone would take to call me a noob.

    There are level 60 potiond which recover 9000 MP in 30 seconds, one which recovers up to 4000 HP one which recovers 30% HP and 30% MP instantly, and two potions who either regen 100 HP or 100 MP per second for 10 minutes. I think that is fairly acceptable, for normal gameplay. Perhaps not for TW or PvP stuff, but I don't think you'd struggle immenselty.

    cdxrd, you make your decision :). I say it's a game worth playing and worth spending real money on to be honest. But not because a troll is telling you to do it ;).

    Its' true. To actually level in this game past 60, Zhen parties are the way to go. You cannot go through a zhen party with POTS LOL!!! It's all heiro's and to be honest I bought 60 dollars worth of gold in the begining of open beta, and now, im not spending ANY more on this game I have quit, and gone to another server, thanks PWI lmfao.

    Never expected that many responses that quick..

    You know, i dont care about end game content, bosses, territory wars.. if I play it would be more for the PVE. Im just lacking in an MMO right now, saw an ad for this one, thought it might be worth a shot. Depending on the client size it might take me an hour to download, so we'll see how it goes after that. then who knows.

    Well, its not about you.. well not really I dont think.. the sad part is, and this may shock you, I dont care about getting to max level.. in my what, 6 years of playing mmo's (uo, eq2, ac, vanguard, etc) , I think I've raided maybe 5 times? not a big deal. TW's dont interest me neither does PVP.. so thats actually a perspective I *Was* looking at. not to mention I was thinking either cleric or veno.. heh and I have no idea what an aoe parties, hh or fbs is.. pardon the ignorance, so I cant state on those..

    PS Troll.. I *LOVE* the name! lolol

    ok well the thing is unless you play as a veno you'll find you have no ingame cash for pots AND skills.

    venos don't need pots (well hardly ever) and have fewer repair expenses.

    so playing without the cash shop really makes even pve alone quite uncomfortable.

    Guess I'll find out.. got a 12 meg connection waiting to download it, and im off work in 3 minutes.. If I make it more than an hour or two in game, then we'll see about $$ .. if it doesnt get me in a couple hours though, its not a good thing.. =(

    this game will be good to play for free for at least 40 levels or so no matter what class you choose.

    make a veno to finance your other characters.

    after that just roll alts if you want to keep playing for free, at least till the next good game shows up.

    AoE is an Area of Effect party where large mobs are killed for faster XP at higher levels.

    HH is Holy Hall, an elite area where materials can be gathered and a couple of bosses killed.

    FB are instance dungeons.

    It really depends on what kind of player you are. On MY, I have lvl 81 WF (veno) and my friend is a lvl 81 WR (Blademaster). My friend has never spent one dime on the game and has never equipped an heirogram. we have done plenty of HH and FBs. We dont participate or care about TW or AOE parties. Our play time in the game is mostly social. Yes, I have spent some money ($45 in total) and got a few items.

    So, it really depends on what you want to do with the game.

    Its very possible to play without real money. I personally spend 20 in real cash for some gold, and only used about 3 of them on items. Yesteryday, i managed to purchase 2 gold from auction ships with in game coin.

    It's pretty much the same with all F2P games. Either you spend real money or you spend a lot more time earning in-game money to purchase the cash shop items.

    As a very casual player, then most of it doesn't matter that much anyway.

    If you're willing to do a lot of trading and farm a *lot* of HH, you can just buy all the cash shop items through in-game trading. I've had tons of 9x and 100 friends never spend a dime but we farmed HH all day and burned through hieros just as fast as the cash shop spenders in AoE parties. So it's possible, just depends on how much time you want to devote to the game.

    Granted if you want to +11 and +12 all your gear or buy 200k rep with candy, it'll be a lot quicker to spend the real money but most people don't get that far anyway.

    troll is my hero, you guys should listen to what troll says. Anyone with a Baldur's Gate II signature gets my respect.

    What he is saying is true, you can't play this game past level 60 with any other class than a venomancer without using cash shop items, unless you also like beating your head on a brick wall. Even playing a venomancer you are going to want to use cash shop items, it's just that class is halfway viable to do it without using cash shop. Any other class you are going to be dead in the water in grinding and total food in pvp.

    in any RPG games i've never bought gold from people or sites. You don't really need to buy gold from the site...Work up gold as your train on monsters and bosses and you'll be rich in no time..

    So it's very easy to play this game without spending any money

    i've already got 30k gold in game without spending any real money
