go on youtube and look it up theres a step by step way. its just simply posting your hair color on ur body color and than saving it. it isnt that difficult;)

i wouldnt think it would be, its not a **** or anything. your just using a custom color since the color map dosent have every single color. They let people use diffrent skins for this game(decoration of it) so idk why theyed be agaisnt this. all it is, is changing one row of numbers

in theory you can be banned for this, yes. in practice, this describes .ini file editing used as a shortcut to getting a result that could be had through the regular character editing function, just with more effort and more time invested. as such, there's patently no way it would be discovered server-side unless you went bragging about it, and absolutely no way it could give you any unfair advantage in-game. (i'm ignoring audrie's replies here, since they seem not related to the original question at all. getting colors you can't reach in the character editor is a different issue.)

i've come to the conclusion that ranting and lecturing against thread necromancy is a tilting against windmills. try as we might to tell the whole world not to do that, people will still do it. some because they're new to the forums and haven't heard about the rule, some because they genuinely can't find a better thread to raise once again a question they have that someone else didn't get answered however long ago, and some --- thankfully few --- because they're simply stupid. well, everybody's new once, unanswered questions sometimes deserve answers, and against stupidity the gods themselves...

i could necro a thread here where i myself as a newbie asked why this rule exists in the first place. i never got an answer. i've concluded that it's simply an arbitrary social taboo --- and sometimes those just need flouting.

so long as the necroing post is on topic and asks a reasonable question that wasn't already answered, i'm personally going to ignore the datestamps. if it's a question that's been answered, either in the dead thread or in easily found newer threads, then i will criticize.

as far as I am aware the main "reasonable" reason for locking necros and asking people not to do it, is because the data contained within may be horrendously out of date and cause more problems than they solve. This would be especially true of threads created during closed and open beta, before the first major patch.

in this case I agree with you Lenie. it was just the sheer age of the thread that got me lolling.

And on topic yes I agree if all you are doing is selecting an alternate tail, ear scheme (which SHOULD be available from the customiser without affecting the rest of your character modifications) then editing the code in the ini should be acceptable - mainly because it will not be a noticable change in game. whereas wearing a bright pink mohican on a barb is definitely noticable. or as previous example of super ****. or the incredibly thin stick people. similarly choosing colors well outside what is normally available in the customiser can cause you problems if someone reports it. It can also cause faces to go invisible on certain graphic cards - leaving just eyes floating under the hair. very freaky.
