Best Water pet?

I've got a Petite Sawfly and a Golem, but what is the best when fighting in water? I tamed some lvl 8 turtle before should I lvl it up, or what, is there something better at higher lvl.

I think the turtle pet is the best water pet, but generally it isn't worth leveling up a low level water pet, as there are not that many situations that require one. Venos should just tame a water pet around their level when they have to do underwater quests.

Yeah, don't bother leveling a turtle. You'll kick yourself for doing it. Like Kitty said, catch any water pet near your level to do your quests. Once you hit 80 you can tame a blob of a fish that has stats reminiscent of a golem and that'll be your final water pet.

So you're saying that a level 5 turtle (Abysmal near Vanish/Lost or the green ones ones near Plume, which are both level 5) would be weaker than the level 80 fish? I kinda find that hard to believe........

Is there really no way to consistently train a water pet up from low level? Sure you'd be on land 99% of the time, but is there like, no use for a water pet in endgame, not even pvp or something? Is getting attacked by a random person who thinks you're defenseless underwater the only thing a water pet is good for?

No one pvp's in the water. Not many people even pvp on land, except in TW.

I have no idea what the growth of a turtle is, all I know is that the stats on my ichthyoid are comparable to a golem. Keep in mind that even though the ichthyoid starts off at a rather high initial level, that doesn't automatically mean it'll be worse than a turtle trained from level 5. The lower level thing only classifies pets in the same family.

Also.. leveling 2-3 pets is already a pain. Adding a turtle to the mix for forced underwater grinding would be hell.

Meh, good info. I was already finding it retartedly annoying on MY. I caugt a level 5 turtle here too, but I'll probably bank the egg and not look at it for a while until I'm bored or something. Thank you senovit.

And on Lost City, I really don't think random pkers actually care what environment their victim is in as long as they can get their cheap thrills and grow their e-peen. I'm pretty suure there's an equivalent term for females, but I'm sure people know what I mean. Actually getting ego from annoying people.

Have scoured every wet spot of PW and my findings are this:

You're stuck with turtles until level 36. Once you reach that level, head to Plume Lake (south of the Winged Elf city) for a Undine Elemental.

Don't bother with Piranha's or Verpents since neither can be tamed.

If you don't want to go to Plume City, Anchorsaur should have their own version in the harbor.

As to which is best? I'll let ya know when my veno reaches 36...

As others have said, dont worry about a "best pet". Just grab something around your level for the occasional water quest. Keep your air (petite sawfly) and land (golem) pet levelled. Dont waste your time levelling water pets.

Well, like kitty said, to catch turtles around your lv, I can't seem to find the lv 43 turtle called Snake Isle Hornshell, anyone know where it is?

I would never say 'best', but I surely enjoy my turtle.
    He's currently 44, raised from level 5.
In the end, he will probably have better stats than the Herc, it's a shame he can't come out of the water, lol.

I wouldn't call it a need, per say.
As a veno I like to have a collection of pets, currently I have 10 active with 2 waiting in the wings.
It's literally how I level, by leveling pets I don't even notice the grind at all.
Leveling pets makes great money from drops too.

Back on the topic of the water pet, water pets can be grinded, my 44 turtle takes on 58+ mobs easily, because he has their same stats, I assume (he has better stats currently than any of my pets).
The other reason I enjoy the water pet grind is the drops are nice, the xp/spirit seems on par as air battles, and the serenity down there..no one is KSing anyone, no chaos.

I also found a nice lake FULL of level 80+ mobs recently, so I'm pretty satisfied once my turtle reaches 60ish he will have no problem becoming the 'Godzilla' he is destined to be.

Do I need to worry about getting a Water pet?
Right now I have only been useing a golem. Do I need anything else?

well, there are tons of lvl 21 turtles outside arch. it can be useful solo the elder tortoise, or to draw aggro for anyone you want to help. after that, there are some lvl 32-3 undines, but catch a lvl 35 undine supreme when you are ready to do the sharks and piranhas. ( the lvl21 tortoise can be your meat shield for that) while doing the sharks, i saw (even managed to kill) a lvl 52 or so mermaid, and have flown over some 60 beasties. so i imagine every 10 levels or so, you're sent back into the water, or air, and can catch what you'll need to do those quests...or spend a goodly amount of time bringing up a pet from 6-10 levels lower than the mobs you're after.

At the bare minimum you need 3 pet slots (which you should have after completing the Veno quest for the 2nd slot, and hay quest for a 3rd). While i advise more slots, you'll need a spot for your land pet, a spot for your air pet, and a spot for a water pet. Everyone's advise on not bothering to level a water pet i agree with, but you still need a slot to put one in when you catch one just to do water quests. It's incredibly hard for a veno to survive without a pet, and unless you intend to skip every water quest, you'll need [random water pet] to do them. You'll need a 4th slot if you want a mount. And later you'll need more slots if you want to start thinking about seperate tasks. Atm i use Golem to physical tank, Froggy to magic tank. Cub for mobs that do both and to cover either role if a pet dies. Kowlin as a Puller and DD in Dungeons/Parties where i don't need a tank. And a Sawfly or Air & random pet slot for water.

I trained a turtle from lvl 5 and at lvl 18 it was able to EASyLY take out a lvl 21 turtle.....now what does that say? I love thta thing i bet it would take out the lvl 8 one if it was 10 more lvls then it :3

well, when you consider some of the best exp/sp gains are in the air or water, i do a lot of both. i have a turtle i have have had for a long time, though hes not much higher than when i got him. but we get a lot done together. im looking forward to getting a plumpfish...then i can go after those bleeping DoDs and beat them up finally for all the times they have sneaked up and nailed me!

Like everyone said, the amount of time it takes for the amount of usage a water pet has is not worth. Just catch a pet around the level of your character if you have water mob quests.

Once you're over 86 and start going to fishing parties. Get a Celestial Plumpfish, it starts with level 5 bash, great for holding aggro while fishing.

Wont have better stats than herc, will only have some slightly better than a Plumpfish, yet be significantly slower and occupy a lot more screen space.

Sawfly and Golem are a waste of pet bag space once you get the legendary pets. Depending on your play style, they're not worth it for everyone to invest time / coin into.

"Best" - overused and ill applied term.
