Priest/Cleric Stat Distribution

I've looked through the postings here to see what would be a good distribution of stat points and i'm getting some mixed messages. (understandable i guess given people's different play styles)

I was thinking of placing the points in like this for every 2 levels: Int: 8 Str: 1 Con: 1

now im getting the feeling that putting a minimal amount of Con into any build is a waste given that the 10 extra hp isn't worth it.

given that i will probably not be spending a whole lot, i.e. not the best armor/weapon, is it still a waste to place some in Con, even though i may not have the sockets for extra health?

As you probably guessed, it won't be that noticeable. You'll function just about the same as a pure INT build in most situations. But you can't say it's not 'worth it'. At level 60, your build will have 300 more hp than a full INT build. This is just over 1 hit from a physical mob, or about 1-2 hits from a magical mob, depending on the quality of your gear. Someday, that 1 hit will save you. You also have to consider Plume Shell. With its 80% absorbtion when maxed, it effectively multiplies your health by 5. So you're getting 50 hp per CON when your shell is up. Again, someday this will save you in a dungeon, or in PvP.

On the flipside, your slightly lower matk will also have its moments. Sometimes you get mobs with just a tiny bit of hp left, forcing you to waste mana on another cast; you can get around this by changing your skill combo however it'll still annoy you at times. Both gain and tradeoff will be slight, and only noticeable in rare situations. But they're there.

What I suggest is, start off as a pure INT build. Wait until about level 30 and see how you are surviving. Run some dungeons, grind on various mobs and form an opinion for yourself. Have duels every now and then. If you decide on improving your survivability, you can start pumping CON whenever you feel like it. You don't have to follow a preset stat build. For example, what I did was go with a 7 INT 2 CON 1 STR build. This whas what I felt comfortable with. At 60 I decided my damage was good enough but I wanted to have greater survivability for TW. I focused on CON and brought myself to a cookie cutter 6-3-1 hybrid over 6 levels. Clerics are a class that you should get a feel for yourself as opposed to follow other people's plans. Those are there just as a guideline.

ahh ok, that makes sense. i just wasn't sure if i would regret not having it at some point and having to wait several levels to correct the mistaken placement. thank you.

I do the opposite I level in the beginning 3-1-1 for Int-Con-Str then once you have enough con for all your weapons and armor i start just dumping all to INT in the beginning lots of physical mobs and later it is mostly all magical attack mobs. This way I don't have to fool with worrying did I add a point last level or not. It is your choice and no right or wrong but if you are a dead Cleric then you can't heal anyone. I like having more CON so I can live longer and heal people.
