Forum width/setup revamp.

Well, I have a little bit of a problem with how the forum is setup. You see, the width of the forum itself is about 950px(between the gray lines on either side of this post), which fits properly in a 1024X768 screen(Yes, a fair amount of people still have them). However, the title image up at the top is about 1200px wide, and so as you can see, the forum is inside a huge frame.
Also, even with a maximized window at 1280X1024 resolution, the title banner takes up almost half a page!

I would like to see the forum just have the forum itself, and none of the top or side images that are there now(And, preferably, the forum set to scale with window size[having seen other Vbulletin forums, I know this is possible]). If it is required, a small title-banner(like perhaps 800X100-200) would be fine.

Any input would be welcome.

Thanks,

This forum definitely needs a revamp. Get rid of the top banner image would be the 1st step.

but to tell you the truth its not even top banner its actuly BACKROUND with forum over it so its gona be hard to make changes me sure would, if I would be the one doing those changes for one I would need to adjust backround picture then make forum load little more up to solve that prob.

EDIT: on big resolutions this forum looks good but on lower resolutions well it could be annoying

yes, get rid of the background image, whatever it is that's taking up valuable space~ and get rid of the black bgcolor too, it's so dark and depressing :-(

As someone who has worked a fair amount with PHP and HTML, it would not be hard to remove - All you would need to do is remove the header code(what is between the <body> tag and the start of the forum code), and the footer code/closing tags(Between the end of the forum code and the </body> tag). This is most likely stored in the forum header/footer areas(It may be stored in the database, or it may be stored in a file; I have never really looked at Vbulletin).
Now, you would probably have to add a little bit of code to replace it, at least a <div align='center'> tag to center the forums, but, it shouldn't take very long for even an amateur scripter. And yes, I would do it if asked.

Another suggestion would be to turn back on(or enable it for the default usergroup) the "users viewing this topic" list, and also the "users currently online". It would be really nice to know who(if anyone) is watching the topic/is on the forum.
If PW doesn't want to let people know that information for privacy reasons, how about a genaric "# of users are viewing this topic"/"# of users are currently online".
Simply enabling it would be easy enough; Just an option in the ACP. Changing it to a numaric number instead of each name may be also available from the ACP, or it might need some custom coding, I don't know.

well you much cover it still I think letting know who watching this curently post is bit ....overkill for me its enough to know who online and who not and we already have that, as for change picture well that is little whats more tricky then just simply change backround they have to advertise this game after all and they have to discuse more about it what they put it have to be something as far I figured not too big and yet pleasent for eyes to see

And I concur. The forums are very annoying and confusing; Have sub-sections, make it user friendly, make it fit the screen, and lastly let us use the size we want in our sigs (at least 450x150)

I agree. With the sigs, I suggest allowing all the various BBcodes - I mean, if you allow links in posts, surely you can allow them in signatures. And, as for images, they ought to turn that on. Seriously, people aren't going to start posting horrible things just because they can post images - As I have seen, bots and such which post **** generally use links anyways, and will even get around most link-prevention filters. I suggest simply having a staff member or two keep an eye on the forum once in a while, and promote a few people to moderator positions. That ought to take care of things.

Please no. There are few things I hate more on forums than the bloody images that people for some reason feel necessary to attach to everything they post. Thankfully AdblockPlus nukes them rather easily...

    Of course not. :p

I just have a little line in adblock's settings that automatically removes all the sig images on the forums. All the other images stay. :)

Well maybe because they just eat space and make the forum less transparent.

The forum is fine the way it is. Throw out your $20 19" monitor and go for 20"+ for about $200.
I think samsung had a sweet 24" for a mere $400. Might be lower now.
