so if those numbers hold true a level 80 3 vit per 2 levels cleric would only have 1200 hp more than a pure mag cleric how big of a survivability boost would that actually be?0

Big. Hierograms favor large hp pool. Barbarians also have a 30% party hit point boost. Spike damage from players, boss aoe and the like have the ability to one-shot kill you. You want a larger hp pool so that your vital hierogram saves your life. Cleric even more so; you need to be near the party to do your job, that includes taking fire from players and eating boss aoe damage.
Points in vitality make a big difference for every class early to mid level. For some classes end game, it's best to restat the vitality off and go with a pure build, because the advantage from vitality isn't as much. Archer and mage are good examples of this. Clerics as well if you prefer a full attack build.
An archer your level is going to bring pure pain from far away. Robes take heavy physical damage. Every bit helps, especially for cleric. If you are an archer or mage, it's ok to die fast in a way because you also kill faster and are a damage dealer. If you aren't going full attack cleric, then points in vitality are a big help to stay alive and help your party. You need hp period, either from soulstones, refining your armor, vitality, or all the above.0 -

Ok so vit is great for mid and early game but how about endgame say both a mag and vit based cleric had the same hp gear setup how much extra survivability would that equate to 1-2 extra hits or quite a few more amd what about the difference in atk and healing power all in all which'd give more bang for your buck0 -
A wizard at level 80 can one hit kill a cleric without crit or fury burst if they don't have vitality or refined equipment.
Pure magic cleric grinding solo: a wizard can come up behind you and Blade Tempest you to the ground without even using fury burst.
Pure magic cleric in aoe party with barbarian hp boost: a wizard can drop to the ground, fury burst, seal you and Blade Tempest half your party to the ground.
The only thing stopping you from getting one shot killed is hp pool. It's not so much about 1-2 extra hits, it only takes 1-2 hits to kill you, it's about surviving harsh spike damage so that hierograms can save your life and you can take action.
Everyone has their own playstyle. When you play add vitality as you need it if you are using robes. If you don't need it don't add it. Experience is the best teacher.0
