i played guild wars for 2 days, found out that level maxed at 20, and never touched it again. LotR online never sold me very well.

big numbers impress people am I right?

There's no functional difference from doing 50 damage to a 1000 HP mob or 5 damage to a 100HP mob. There's no difference if you do 50 damage to level 50s or 5 damage to level 5s. There's no difference if everything is the same %. If it takes the same amount of hits it doesn't make it very dynamic combat. It's like kill X boars, and then kill Y goblins, and kill Z tarantulas. In the end, the mob could be a big splotch of black and it wouldn't make a difference other than eye candy.

Seriously I find Perfect World to be VERY grindy and the content doesn't seem too deep thus far. Sure... flying/swimming/jumping around is entertaining for a day or so but it ends up the monsters you kill for quests aren't very interesting. I'm going to keep playing because I don't like reviewing something based off the beginning levels so I'll get back to you on that. Right now I feel like it is any other other **** and slash MMO but with flying and underwater combat.

What I liked about Guild Wars was that you don't just "grind to the max level" and say "I'm bored". The quests were standard MMORPG fare, with a few notable exceptions like the dungeons which have environmental effects and puzzles. IMO the meat of Guild Wars has been and always will be the missions since they are far more strategic than plain kills. The very fact that you say that the level cap is a bad idea amuses me.

What happens in most MMOs is you hit the level cap and instagib everything in sight, meaning there is A. no challenge B. no strategy C. a rush to level cap which leads to boredom D. no replay value. It doesn't help that it takes about 3 or 4 years to hit the level cap in some of those Asian games if you play casually (i.e. weekends) meaning it is serious time sink.

It's a shame so many never got to experience the freedom players had in the early years of UO and other similar games........

Sorry for ranting. Perfect World is a lovely game, I wouldn't be here if I didn't enjoy it, but a part of me still clings onto the past and hopes the future may bring something that can help me experience it all over again.

I am an old school MMORPG gamer and couldn't agree with you more. Perfect World International is definitely a huge step up from the Free to Play crowd though. ;)

This game is pretty quest-based in my opinion though. You earn most exp through completing quests.

I see people keep saying this, but doing quest after quest that consists of nothing more "Go over there and kill this" plus some flavor text is still grinding, just with more breaks...

I still agree with this, though. :)

It IS a grind fest. I wont say But this or but that because bottom line it IS a total grind fest, more than half of the "Quests" you do are grinding monsters. the few that show variety is usually take item to NPC or collect flowers or wood for X npc, But bottom line its a very big grind fest. There are no Free 2 play mmorpg games that are not a grind fest...(This is only free 2 play by name to top it off) except maybe that 1 sandbox game people talk about..which i can't remember the name.. or MUD's
ofcourse there are. just that the grind-games are suprising more popular. mainstream doesnt requaire from you much of brainstorm, everything is served to you on a silver plate. i could name you some literaly GODLY F2P mmo out there but if i remember correctly its against the forum rules (advertising other MMO)

the thing with grinding, is that every MMO has it. so long as a game requires leveling, there will be some grinding. the only difference is how much of your xp is coming form strait up grinding, or grind that is produced from quests.

this game has a seemingly broken xp from mobs, so grinding from mobs probably becomes less viable the higher you get(so far alteast quests are the best source of xp up to 25). a vast amount of xp is coming from quests so players do not need to mob grind for an extended period of time solely from mobs.

if youre talking about a grind game, most games coming out of Gpotato are pretty much grind fests. at anytime you have to kill mobs for more than 60% of a level, thats pretty much a grind fest. if doing a quest or two doesnt even get you 10% of a level....you got a grind fest.

if you dont like grind fests, then you probably need to find a game where advancement and enjoyment doesnt involve leveling.

Definitely agree , for a f2p game the scope is pretty big. And alot prettier as well.
