I have a feeling that it may be a problem with the radeon x1600's series.

I'm having an issue with my perfect world... the game did this last night when the beta came out. heres what its doing. i can login just fine, no issues with that at all, select the server, then click create character, and my computer completely restarts... this is the ONLY game ive had this problem with. Im running xp service pack 2, ati X1600 pro, (AGP) a BRAN NEW format on the OS, I have a great level of experience when it comes to computers, i think it may be the video drivers? they are also updated to the latest drivers. I was really looking forward to playing this game, the beta anyways. i even sat down watching the countdown lol. I also have the latest direct x, from this month. I am fresh out of ideas on what could be causing my computer to completely restart. Any Ideas? seems like were the only people having this problem, dam ATI x1600's lol

I too can confirm this problem. I am using an ATI x1600 pro AGP in windows XP. When I click on create character I briefly see a character then I get a BSOD with at STOP 0x0000008 message and no further details. I'm using catalyst 8.2 hotfix drivers. Im trying to find some newer drivers but it's quite difficult with this AGP card as you need special "hotfix" drivers for directx to work properly. I'll keep playing around to see if I can get it working. It would be nice to know if anyone with an x1600 (agp or pci-x) can get the game to work.

Alright, I have a solution to the problem, it fixed mine just fine, im now playing without any issues on my x1600 (AGP). Here's what you do. Go to ATI.com, download drivers, when u get to the link to download the display driver, or the catalyst, you'll see on the bottom under additional links, "Previous Drivers and Software" click that, and download the earliest driver,"Catalyst 7.7" after it finishes, install it, and enjoy perfect world :) worked for me, hope it works for you guys.. seems as if the game doesnt support the newer drivers.

    For the noobz:

    step 1: go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
step 2: for (windows xp) under windows XP click Professional/Home
    Step 3: Click Radeon
step 4: Click Radeon X1600 Series
    step 5: Click GO :)
step 6: Scroll to the bottom of the page
Step 7: Click Previous Drivers and Software under Additional Links
    Step 8: Click Catalyst 7.7
    step 9: download and install.

    Once again, hope it works

if returning to 10 month old drivers is the only solution...it sux. There are catalyst AGP HOTFIXES for newer drivers ( 8.-5.-6.-7 etc). i did a quick try on 8.7 agp hotfix but didnt seem to work. I may have just had to uninstall old 8.7 drivers :P. If someone has some more time to kill, please try those agp hotfixes and some other solutions by google :D.
    small summary
    1) this problem seems to occur only on ATI AGP cards (PW may have some crudge against agp owners ;D)
    2) Solution so far: Download Catalyst 7.7 and install

yea, when i found this fix, i tried everything!!! and i mean everything... direct x, cpu, reformatted the hdd, also thought the problem couldve been in my tower, rebuilt the computer... after eliminating everything i decided to try something else, went to get the drivers, and it worked... heres what probably happened, (maybe lol) the devs probably didnt add newer support for AGP cards, they're outdated, almost like floppy drives, haha. thats the only reason i could see why that happened, oh since this is fixed, can we close this topic?i think it fixes it for everyone with this problem.

you cant call that a fix. Stuff needs to work with newest drivers. Some other games require newer drivers, get fixes etc. so you cant just be 10+ months behind :P.
This is a temporary solution, will see what game devs come up with. It is their game and catalyst on agp cards missmatch.

Anyone given the Omega Drivers a shot? They're only for XP and only go up to Catalyst 7.12, but I just thought I'd throw it out there: http://www.omegadrivers.net

Does it have to be 7.7? Was there something that changed between 7.7 and 7.8, or... do know where the cutoff is?

Oh, here's some direct links for the previous official versions of the Radeon drivers:

    BUMP

Seems that the problem goes with ATI+AGP cards. Although i think i saw some sporadic posts about other configs as well.

Anyhow some of us, me included, have cards like ATI HD2600 AGP.
The current solution of downgrade to a working driver, like the 7.7 may help some users, but cannot work for me, because the 2600 series, can't be used with some earlier AGP drivers because of their incompatibility with this and similar model cards.

Now we surely need some ATI attention to this problem, but id like to hear some DEV response first to this, for us to know if it is a game code problem that can be fixed OR an entirely VGA driver conflict.
For the latter submitin tickets to ATI seems a good idea, although i wonder if PW can contact ATI more directly, considering its place as a Game Company, to request a release of a working driver.

And Finally to make sure if devs are aware of the problem and if they workin on a solution/temp fix.

i am new to perfect world and when i first loaded the game i had a Nvidia Geforce 6600, a couple days ago the video card died and i got a ATI hd 2400 pro agp. when i would log into the game it would restart on me. i contacted ati and spoke with them and they suggested to update my northbridge driver on my motherboard. i did the update on the motherboard and the game works perfect now. i hope that this helps i know that people are frustrated with the ati cards. ati also said that any agp 2XXX and 3XXX series cards where not supposed to be agp so only load the drivers for the card for the manufacturer web site or use the cd that came with it
