DirectX Problem, Help!

Ok so I've downloaded the game and done everything else.
Only when I go to start up the game, it pops up something saying something about DirectX.
The pop up is in weird characters, the equivalent to what is supposed to be one of the Asian languages. Except the only thing readable is "DirectX" .. So obvioulsy its a DirectX problem.

I've updated my DirectX drivers to Aug2008. Which is what PW Website recommends.

So where do I go from here? :confused:

Yes, before you ask, my graphic drivers are also updated.

    I have both Vista x64 (Business) and WinXP on 2 different PCs and they work fine, no DX error messages :confused:

    Software sure is weird sometimes. Can you post the message here (a link to it)?

    And actually his Error is the same as mine..
    The whole weird characters if you dont have the asian language font installed on your computer..

    mh.. you don't have the asian langauge pack installed, so even if someone knows chinese here (damins, maybe?), no-one can read it. try installing the asian pack, it might even solve the problems you are having

    My husband and I have been trying to assist BethJuly1 with this problem thus far through a remote desktop, we've had her her drivers updated and installed for her graphics card and reset everything to default, and reinstalled directx to the specifics of the game. As well as un-installing and re-installing the game over again to fix the problem. And still it's the same error. We're at a loss at this point. Although this isn't the first time this error has occurred with online games. It's always a direct x related error that pops.

    I know when we started EQII it was the same error that was fixed by finding an older version of direct x to run it. And thus far we've tried that here again after updating it to the most recent version. Any helps and/or tricks around this little error would be most appreciated.

    I know she runs Window XP home edition, with an ATI Graphics card. It's run perfect smooth for past games (WoW, EQII, GW), with the occasional direct X issue that we've resolved in the past using the above methods for some reason PW is still popping the error. :confused:

    it seems we have a dilema on our hands lol
    2 people with the same issue, more people should of had this issue to, but maybe they resolved it or gave up ?

    If anybody has had/seen/heard of this problem please help us either in here on in my post.

    like i said, try to install the asian langauge pack, so that maybe someone can actually read what the message says exactly. It's hard to diagnose it w/o knowing what the message really says. Maybe it's only partially DX related.

    did you try to also update the VC++ runtimes?
    asian langauge pack can be installed via control panel->regional and language options->middle tab->check the ALP checkbox

    and what is that going to solve? .. it'll turn into Asian text, and well I won't understand it because all I know is English.

    just a quick question to the one with the issue ...

    on your graphic settings screen, take a look at you graphic card

    like this ... Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS ( here will be brackets with your graphic memory )
    do you see (0MB) or do you see something else like (256MB) (512MB) (724MB)

    how do we know its chinese and not malaysian or thai or anything else for that matter ?
    and how do i install/download laguages for vista, ive check microsoft but they dont have any :P
    at least not in english lol

    no its ok ... you have the exact same problem as me ... i think our graphics cards are being found ... BUT !
    they are not recognised as actually having memory ... because of this PW:I thinks we have directX issues and wont allow us to play ...
    I found the config.ini and attempted to edit it ... but nothing happened but the config did show that my gfx didnt have any memory lol
    this will be an easy fix ... if somebody knows what to do.

    *rolling eyes* a chinese couldn't read the Dialog because you machine didn't use Chinise Fonts at all.

    At my opinion it's quite useless now to install chinese Fonts only to get the Errormessagr written at Old Chinese Types.

    At all start the check at your machines.

    This means : Right CLICK your Nvidia Driver Symbol at the Taskbar and Check the Systemconfiguration.

    Go thorug <Right Click> - Nvidia Systemconfiguration -> MENU!!!! -> HELP -> Systeminformation.

    There you should Read

    1) the Name auf your Gfx-Card installed
    and
    2) the activate Ram used by Gfx-Card.

    Written like Component : Gfx-Card Name
    Details : Version of Driver / RAM ...

    If you read there a 0 Ram too ... deinstall ALL Nvidia Driver - Reboot - Install the newest one.

    And NO. I have read you have installed the newest driver - but did you really! follow the installation Guide says "first deinstall OLD Nvidia Driver - THAN! install new ones?" *hmmm honey?*

    After that check again ... i think a easy way to locate the problem isn't? .. Do the deinstall and install even if you could read the Memory at the Systeminformation.

    Step 2.

    After doing this stuff running you dxdiag again. Windows Key + R (or Start-> Run) : DXDIAG

    Run all the Checks.

    At the Tab "Display" you should also Read : Your Gfx-Card Name and also the Ram (ca.) ...

    if not... Deinstall DirectX - Reboot - Reinstall DirectX

    I knew sound really wired, but if only one component of DirectX is damaged, you could get some Problems with the one Gamingsoftware and the other works fine. Best seen last time at Lotro. One of the Files has been damaged and so you get a "blue screen" after each logoff. Deinstalltion of DirectX and reinstall really makes this fine.

    So hopefully these steps solve your Problems and all of you could start betatesting.

    There was noone who tried to read it cause there is nothing to read. And if you want to solve an error message, you have to know what it says, that's the reason do display an error message.

    done ... i even checked dxdiag first ... and guess what ... its fine, no problems found ...

    although ! lol i think this is quite weird ... Approx. Total Memory: 2156 MB

    Alright Via remote desktop I've been attempting to fix BethJuly1's problem.

    (soukyuu) I have installed the ALP and no change in the error message. It's still jibberish like the screen shots posted, with Direct X stuck in the middle of it all. What are the VC++ run times? I haven't checked those as I'm unsure what I am looking for.


    (vigarlunaris) Even though we have gone through and reinstalled things in the beginning I went through every step you mentioned with the exception that there is a different menu path for ATI cards then there are NVidia. And the error persists to pop up. The only thing is I can not find a valid path to uninstall Direct X so I merely over wrote the previous version with the new installation.


    In the dxdiag it registers as: Approx total memory: n/a
    but other than the memory saying n/a there were no other problems found.
    But the System Information in the graphics menu reads: 258mb
    The PW settings however still reads: Display Card: RADEON 9250(0 mb)

    Am I missing something or is there another issue besides the Graphic Drivers and Direct X?

    Well if you're encounder the 0 (n/a) message also at Direct X Dialog there ist a problem with DirectX vs. Graphic Card.

    here how to deinstall DirectX (ONLY VERSION 9) !!!!!!!

    Direct X 10 couldn't deinstalled, it's part of the Windows Vista OS. There are some "Tips" around how to get it out Vista but at all only Direct X4-9 are really deinstallable with the tip at the link. So you could reinstall Direct X9 ... well only for XP Users at all.

    Back to celestyn...

    If you Systeminformation of Graphic Card detects 258 mb but Direct X does not, Perfect World COULD NOT verify your Graphic Card. PF don't takes the systeminformation of the Driver it seek out for the Information located at Direct X.

    You could try to bypass the checking before manage to get a newer Direct X or seeking out the Forums at the Inet for Informations, why your Graphic Card did not give the "right" information to Direct X console.

    At

    $HARDDISK\Program Files\Perfect World Entertainment\Perfect World International\config\patcher

    You will find a Files called sysinfo.ini
    This could be look like this.
    [SystemInfo]
    OS=Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3
    Cpu=AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 4400+
    Mem=4047 MB
    VideoCard=NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
    VideoMem=512 MB

    Well try to "rewrite" this file and enter your Infomations at your Own.

    For your case it should be

    VideoCard=ATI RADEON 9250
    VideoMem=258 mb

    and hopefully this will solve the problem ???

    Second you have to locate :
    $HARDDISK\Program Files\Perfect World Entertainment\Perfect World International\element\userdata

    File called : systemsettings.ini

    This could be now tricky.

    Section :

    [Info]
    card = NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
    driver = nv4_disp.dll
    version = 6.14.0011.7516
    vendor = 000010de
    deviceid = 00000402
    subsysid = 00007377
    guid = {D7B71E3E-4742-11CF-9B0D-0B2000C2CB35}

    Locate at your Systeminformation the Displaydriver "driver = nv4_disp.dll" well there you have to find your ones and enter it there

    Version / Vendor / subsysid .. Information could found at the Vendorspag or via support there. This is a information normaly provided by Direct X

    guid= The Registryentry to the Graphicdriver. This you also have to seek. A lot of work but first try to get Direct X running, because you MUST HAVE a install error there. Could also try only to "reinstall" the driver ... means the directx and the graphiccard drivers. But remeber. First the Graphiccard driver than direct X

    VC++ runtimes = visualc++, so they are the files needed to run programs written in C++. Updated runtimes help in some cases.

    for 32-Bit OS
    for 64-Bit OS

    About the ALP: you will have to set the language for non-unicode programs to chinese(simplified) in the advanced tab of regional and language options for it to work. You can reset it to english after capturing the message.

    It's weird that your dxdiag ALSO shows the card has no RAM. Is it a desktop or a laptop card?

    Well the errors still there. Dispite your detailed instructions vigarlunaris. My hubby even got on the remote link to fix it last night. Even went as far as a step by step phone converstation on how to reset the graphic card bios for the system to get it to register as having memory.

    I would just like to thank everyone for they're help thus far in this issue. And we'll keep trying to narrow down the potiential causes till we get it right :)

    soukyuu i'll have her do that today, and see what happens and keep you guys posted if it worked or not. It's a desktop card.

    i am so angry the same thing happened to me all i can read is direct x im so confused can someone help me, when i press start it shows me some wierd writing all i can read ids direct X help me!!b:sad
