As an old-time player coming back, is it worth it?

Basically, the question.

The longer story: I've been away for several years. In fact, I was still working on leveling a mystic after getting my psychic as close to endgame as my coinage would get me. Because I've been away for a while, I am aware that I am incredibly behind, and I highly doubt that I can start off where I ended since most of who knew me back then is now either gone from the game or too far ahead. Why do I want to come play again? Nostalgia. Mostly nostalgia, and I saw videos of new shinies. But I wonder if I can start again and at least not be overly useless for more than a couple of months, without spending a lot of money. This gal's got a bottomless kid to feed.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to PVP at all, pull out the credit card. But just doing PVE doesn't cost anything.

What capnk said, pvp end-game pretty much requires cashing if you want to be effective. That said, PWI has made some newer stuff that "evens" the tables a bit. With g16 (T3/N3 for other server) and enough spirit it's doable. As for PvE you can get buy with g16 just fine, though getting to it can be annoying. Money's a bit harder to come by since there's not a lot of farmable options, Jolly Old Jones works if you have a good amount of alts. There was a server merge so Dreamweaver is now part of Tideswell (I was on Dreamweaver as well, I think I remember you actually!)

Bottom line, if you don't want to take it too seriously and aren't gonna worry about being the best, you can have fun in PWI just doing the dailies and hanging out.

The whole "being the best" ship has sailed, LOL. I'm old, and work way too much to focus on that; I just want something to wind down to at the end of my day and being that this was my first MMO and it still after all these years have a lot of sentimental value if nothing more, why not?

My husband would think I'm nuts for even attempting. xD

Then I would say yes you can simply casually enjoy the game. There are plenty of smaller factions that have no interest in seriously TWing.
