Just curious what people think about this. Do you really think there will be an influx of new players when PWI is released on Steam?

Yes. It worked wonders for FW. It will get a lot more visibility.

Just wish they bothered to update the game engine first.

^ so much this! Of all the things they've said they were going to do over the years and haven't this is the one I wish they'd follow through on the most.
Whoever said nothing is impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Well personally I don't see why the new players would consider staying at all. As an old player whom played when PWI was in it's true grind progression era where you actually did the quests to level up and read those interesting stories. A time where the coin you got from them actually was viableish. Now new players are going to come in and see sub par graphics compared to something like TERA and do the new starting area till level 20 then go to their home city and discover the Quest master and lucidsilver and intantly bump themselves up to level +-27 with no money because the quest rewards means [REDACTED]and they didn't do anything because they jumped out on those levels and rewards and unique stories.

Ending up totally confused on what to do and where to go next and missing out on all that beautifull content that drew us all in the first place. So they might like it still and charge some Gold but will most likely spend it unwisely as they do not know the market and how to sustain their wealth and end up dissapointed and quit.

    = bad reviews on steam.

This game is still extremely fun and it provides the best pvp ever imo but all it is now is about powerleveling to 100/100/100 get g16 or sell your house for r9rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to be viable in pvp or get left behind.

I'm not a **** or a negative neckbeard hater but this is just how I see it and what the game has become. Heck I just came back to it after playing for 3 years and taking a very very long break.

TL;DR : I hope we get an influx of new players so PWI can be lively again with lots of people to be found chilling everywhere allowing random squads to form up but the truth is questing is not really viable anymore since low reward and super fast level boosting from questmaster etc. The fun and "fantasy" aspect is gone.

    - I'd bet less than 1% of the old players (in 2008-2010) did read the quests. I've never done that too. For good stories I read books, watch movies or play decent offline RPGs like Witcher 3 (or Oblivion in 2006). PWI was never good in telling stories. Fonts are too small, no situational music, no npc voices, no interactive characters. I'm pretty sure the stories were never the reason why ppl play this game.

    - Quests to level up?? C'mon... maybe till level 35. This game was once a typical asian grinder. Gaming was like sitting infront of a slot machine (grinding mobs) for the dingdingding (exp, coins + dq items) while ppl were chatting with each other.

    - Coins had more value? Imo there was just nothing worth to buy in boutique (till first pack release at first anniversary). I'd estimate I spent 90% of my coins for skills and skill books till first anniversary (maybe 10% for materials and HP charms).

    - HH60/70/80 were boring instances. Full squads of level 60s hit the bosses (auto attack) for 30mins with 1* or 3* weapons *yawn*.

    - FBs were nice and more interesting, but really time consuming. Ppl just got lost all the time and it was normal to run a FB39 for 2-3h and a FB51 for 3-4h. I don't want back to this past.

PWI is a toaster game and that's not something bad. Almost everyone on this planet can afford a toaster and play this game. That's why our community is that diverse.
And I already said it a few weeks ago in this forum: in comparison to what people play on their "smart"phones nowadays, this game looks like a Roland Emmerich movie. Nice graphic is nice, but it's absolut not necessary for a good game to have a highend graphic. Ppl still play Tetris or did play Sid Meier's Civilisation (1) for ages.
What MMOs need imo is a good customization and it took years for other games to catch up PWI at this part.

What would I like to see in the future? More raid parties (which are worth to do) like trials. And less dailies (wishful thinking xD).

New accounts will be made, but very little of them will be active. Once they see what is needed to get to end game (ie 24 hour a day farming or large credit card debt), they wont stay. If this was 6 years ago, it would be good.
The bad reviews that current or ex players will give them game will also drive away potential new comers. If that doesn't, once they submit a ticket for a problem, that will drive them away for sure.
The game it too boutique driven to keep players interested in the game. Once they see that the amount the need to spend to be competitive in PvP (assuming thats why they would want to play), they will leave.

Unless they give out those free instant lvl 95 pills again to new accounts made through steam or maybe the ones that give instant lvl 100 rb1 with gear. Otherwise you're right... the gap is too large for anyone new to be competitive unless dumping boat loads of cash and time into PWI.

Have any of the Devs tried to contact China to get the Engine upgraded? Or can Pwi just do that on their own?

PWE wouldn't be able to do that. It's entirely up to Wanmei management and developers.

Dunno, Wanmei was the one who originally announced they were going to upgrade the game engine back in November 2013.

I think that a lot of new players would stay in this game, is true that is really hard to rich end game and for pvp new players have a big disadvantage for pvp, if new players are just looking for pvp, they would not stay, the gap is too large and new ppl cant be competitive unless they spend thousend of dollars in this game or some years farming, I think that anyone want that.

But instead of that, this game have a lot to offer for pve players, the comunity sistem, facs and stuff like that are the bests, and we are having a lot of events good dungeons and I think that this would atract new players, now is easyer to lvl up than some years ago, but that is ok imo,
some years ago was harder and most of the players was just thinking in make coins to pay for the big room in fcc. Anyone enjoy a quest that require to kill 80 mobs. In that aspect this game is better now that some years ago, and I played other games and imo for pve players this is the best. For pvp players maybe is a good game too, but for new players if they are looking for a pvp game is really bad, they are not going to stay if they see that dont have any chance to be competitive.

The PvE aspect isnt that great ether. Sure some of the events might be nice (not sure since I was screwed over from the server merge for them), factions can be fun, but its mostly on vent or something and nothing to do with the game. Any of the instances we have now, arent that fun or challenging, most if not all, are in and out. They are far too easy. Warsong might be the longest instance, and only because of the timer/mob kills at the start. After that its a brisk walk in the part for the most part, and plenty of people skip the mobs, and go straight to the boss and kill them that way, cause they just want the weapon mold drops.

To keep people interested in the game, they need to put some actual thought into it, and listen to the current player base now, and with being pretty much a "rented" title, only China can do that.

The base players cant make coins so they cant buy nothing with these prices unless if you spent like 6 hours per day doing BH and fsp

back when the original dev team did join again, that was one of the plans announced.

afaik --> those devs are gone again. ( i could be wrong though)

Its true that is hard for us to make coins in game for but new players dont going to need coins until they rich lvl 80+ at least, becose they are going to have free gear until then and dont need to pay for skills, most of the skills are free, they you going to need spirits to buy it.

And is real that dungeons are not a challenge for us, but we have high lvl, end game gear and that is wath make the pve game easy for us, but for new players dont.

We have to think this from a new player point of view, is the same that we live when we start in the game, Im leveling and alt now, want to lvl up whitout the help of my main to learn the class well and stuff like that, so Im doing almost the same that I did when I lvl up my barb and I think that pve game in this game is better than 4 or 5 years ago when I start to play.

But still for ppl looking for pvp this game is not so good, they have to fight against player that have 4 or 5 years or even more working in their chars.
