Can I play for free?

Hi, im looking to start playing PWI but I am wondering if I can play for free and actually be competitive in pvp without spending any RL cash?

I have patience, and all the time in the world, but is that enough?

I also am wondering if I can play the Auction house to make enough to fund my gear that would be competitive in pvp?

If you know how to merch, yes you.can get to end game within 1-2 years, to competitive level even sooner. Knowing what instances/weekly events yield the most coin and using your time the most cost effective dailies/instances helps to.

If you don't know how to merch, but are a good farmer, still yes but add another year or 2 , assuming you can't no life the game. if you have a ton of free time to spend 8 game though it'll probably take the same amount of time.

Only hard part is going to be getting the initial funds and/or gear to get started, though shouldn't be too hard if you look at forum guides.

You can certainly play PvE for free, as most gear that you need for anything PvE related is relatively easy to acquire. PvP is a whooooooole different story, and even if you dump $$$'s you will be far behind other players. Maxed out gear will cost you the price of a nice car or an unrealistic amount of years farming and merching.

    realistically..... no.

if you manage to be an exception to the rule.... maybe.

you start now from scratch you will take quite some time to reach your first 100 then you have to rb after getting some halfway decent gear and saving up some items you will need to rb. then you need to race back to 100 in order to do the instance you will have some ability to make money off of.

you are so far behind if you are just starting that "competitive in pvp" is gonna be like 1-2 years out and im being pretty optimistic about it since you want to do it without spending a dime. other ppl may disagree but all the lowbie money making i basically gone and this guy cant even begin to deal damage until he is rb2. all the new stuff requires dailies which basically is a hard n narrow path to gear/stats.

It is possible. Look at me and all my chars. I played for free. Would I do the same again if I had the cash to throw around instead? No. I would throw in the cash cause the thousands of thousands of hours farming arnt just worth it when you look back at it.

Nowadays...with the right foundation of coin-income tho..this game has become by far the easiest to progress for me. 2b a month are minimum and for that I just need to play 2h max each day. Once it rolls it rolls BUT like others have already said...to get started NOW at this very specific moment in PWI completely for free...holy moly. You are in for some serious effort-needed if ya wanna achieve anything free 2 play that is remotely competitive.

PS. Joe here, forgot to relog to my main forum account. Damn blessings!

game is possible to play for free, BUT

best of the best in every single slot takes ages or alot of patience

do u need best of the best in every slot? -- prolly not

what u do need is a set of endgame armors (700g aka 550 euros)
shard it refine it to +10 (usually with patience can be done free)
maxed daily questchains ( gives a huuge boost in stats ( lkike 60& more defense and 30% more hp)
atleast lvl 103-105 (w gotta do this 3 times - as we got 3 reawakenings - means lvl to 100, get to 0 , do again and again)

all of this can be done in a matter of 2-3 months strictly trading and flipping ingame stuff ( for this to work, u do need starting capital though - or add another 1 month) - but most importantly - u need to know the game --> thats where i see this plan falling apart. no flipping if you dint not stuff about the game ( and every other means of getting ingame coins to an extend that it doesnt feel like a slavery job is very limited , and even more limited by the fact that u got no alt accounts to start with, and no good geared main to abuse multi-accounts)

thus for a new player : sap the idea of *competitive* pvp , as it goes against the very nature of a mmo , which only got gear advancement as an endgame goal.

if you like playing mmos as a trader thoug (as i do) , pwi is a really ncie markeptplace to have fun with, and eventually , you might have the coins, to get yourself a toon.

you can play for free yep. to become good PvE player will take you about 2 years + - of daily 2-3 hours play. in all matter to PvP you will never be able to 1vs1 on any of the hard cash players that will take you down easy. if you will play alot and farm game you can get close to the real strong cash players. so basicly yes you can play for free if u dont plan to be 1 of the top 100 players in game.

If you have time YES you can. Time is money after all.

The thing is Playing for free you are not supporting the game at all. No money no game. So you will be sometimes find yourself in a position where you want to and or other players are fighting over this insulting each other in the process.

You can but it really does take a lot of time to get any where near the top range in this game. For starters, there is a lot of ways to power up in this game and any player that has been playing this game for a while has an big advantage. The fastest way to get these power up is with money. Just to give you an idea: First there are rebirths, once you reach level 100 you can rebirth and this can be done twice. This basically gives you more points to play around with, and the higher you are when you rebirth, the more points you can get. 105 is the max level in this game and some people have done it three times. This is less of an issue then it sounds since you gain xp faster the second time around. Even the first time around leveling is fast since culti give out large amounts of exp until around the 80's, reflection ( exp gaining instance) and the built in bot system (yes this game will grind for you). If you cash shop you level faster using items such as book which can buy with coin from people that do cash shop. Auto pots, known as charms are free in this game until around the mid levels let you grind mobs longer and make you a bit harder to kill.
The second thing to consider is that there is a lot of luck involved in increasing stats, most good gear can be refined up to +12. The chance of hitting each refinement decreases as you go up and if the refinement fails the refinement goes back to zero. Again, you can buy items that increase the odds or prevent the item from going back to zero, but these can get very expensive. Then you also have the meridian system, which also requires luck and time, you can buy holy pills to speed up the process. Add to this War avatars card that you get randomly, which you then need to feed nuema that you get from killing particular instance bosses (you can do this a max of 20 times a week).
Other things that increase stats include star charts, titles, sharding, tomes and re-rolling gears. And this is without going into the gears themselves. If you want any type of rank gear such as R8, you will need to earn or buy reputation. R9 requires extra mats such as MOG, which come from the cash shop. G16 is a litte bit cheaper to acquire. This can all be done without spending real world money...but we are talking 100s of millions in coins and the gold prices are greatly in flavor of cash shoppers. The last time I checked it was 3.9 million coins to 1 gold.
Lastly there is PVP in this game but its not open world PVP. Players can turn off and on pvp modes in the open world and most just leave it off. Most pvp these days hapen in NW and TW which happen on certain days of the week.

    There are also good news.
E.g. nowadays you level up all your skills to level 10 for just 1 dollar (4-6m coins). And all other skills are farmable for free too.
    Once this was pretty expensive.
And skills got a nice boost over the years (aps is outdated).

To be op you have to spend way too many coins/ too much money.
But it's cheaper than ever to belong to the average folk (most stuff which can be farmed is cheap).

Im agree whit most of the players that coment before, want to add some stuff.

I play for free this game, Im not the best in pvp, just an average player, but is totally posible to be a good player whitout cash shop anything.

Now, I add 1 think, is true that to have an end game gear whit all the refinement at max lvl and stuff like that can take you more than 2 years, but there is a new expansion, new gear, we dont really know how many time is going to take to have the g17 gear, but is farmeable, we dont know if the mats are going to be tradeables or not. But ppl says that take 1 year to have the g17r3

You can reach the 2nd rb 100 in 6 or 7 months, so maybe is going to take you less time to have a competitive char.

And there are a lot of high lvl players and factions whit his own bank that are going to be glad to help you, is a good thing that I find in this game, that is going to make you everything a lot easyer xD

I want to add one more thing about the rebirth, is true that you have to reach lvl 100 at least 3 times, but is not that hard, in your firs rebirth your exp rewards is multiplied x4, in your 2nd reborn is x3.5, so rich 100 again becomes very easy, depends how much time you have to play, but you can do it in less than a month whitout any problem.

This was a good idea as it brings life back to the old BHs. When we get 3rd Ill be in no rush to Lv again. I missed the old BHs and different maps. Still a shame we could Solo them... But... Well lets wait and see.

At this point their is still no real pressure to spend money on the game which is a good point. Enjoy the game to this point learn the class other classes and skills then worry about gear. To be fair as well Lv 102 is not that hard from 103 to 105 is the hard part again this comes down to TIME rather than money...

Yes you can play for free. You can merch, but it will be tough to start as the prices are still somewhat high. Gold prices are pretty much controlled by the players, 1 gold doesnt not = 1 real dollar. Whatever you can do to make money within the game, they nerf it so that you cant anymore. They have made it so that farming takes forever, and putting real money into the game is easy and quicker.

If you want to be competitive in PvP. Ummmmm
PWI isnt really the place. PvP is rare and usually a gank fest. Aside from some events, and still then, gank fest happens all the time.
Also you will have to lvl you character to lvl 100 3 times (at least 100) to be opened to the newest perks/skills
Then there is the card system, that required lvling, and re-lvling if you want to make the card even better, there are 6 cards. There are 2 other system that improve your stats. Can be farmed, but available with real money.
You will be behind for a very very long time, while you are catching up, new things will come out (new gear coming with the next version), and you will have to catch up more.
All of this will take a long time to achieve, if you want to put in the hours, go for it. But dont expect to catch up in a couple of months if you want to be competitive in PvP. People in game will tell you they got what they have by farming, some have, most havent.

The fact that new weapon comes out might be in his advantage, he can skip making the r9 weapon and that would save him over a bil.

But he going to have to hurry if he wants to be ready to farm it from day 1 from new instance.
At least you only need Lv90 for the house system from what've heard.

    pve: yes 100%

    pvp: no way in hell!

you can't even think of surving just one shot without selling your car to get some gear.
