Windows 10 Compatibility Discussion

OK, just for starters, I've been using the Win10 Dev preview in a virtual machine since it was available. A few builds ago, the public release became stable enough that I decided to convert my main PC to it.
This thread is meant to be a discussion on our experiences, stability, and problems with playing the client on the new OS.
On previous builds, I didn't have much of an issue with the client running at all. Though to be honest, when I was using it in a VM, I never did run it in full screen mode. It was usually windowed at a resolution of 1600x900.
Since I moved my main PC to Win10, I've been playing the client in full-screen mode 1920x1080 without issue.
Right up until build 10041/10047 that is.
Now I am unable to run the client in full screen. Works just peachy in windowed mode, and I can fake full-screen by running it windowed at 1920x1080.
When putting the client into 1920x1080 full-screen mode, initially it sat there blinking as if the sync was set to a mode my display was not compatible with. Client was playable, as long as I didn't mind not being able to see anything in half-second intervals. That worked for about 30 seconds.
After playing with the settings between windowed and full mode, now I just get a black screen with the PWI cursor when it's in full screen mode. (Might be because I force-killed the v-sync option for the client from the Nvidia Control Panel, and haven't flipped it back to auto.)
I'm still tinkering with it and hope to find a resolution, but until then, 1920x1080 Windowed will work as a fine substitute. Win10 seems to co-operate nicely by not activating the taskbar when my mouse is at the bottom of the screen, and properly positioning the window in a "Windowed Full-Screen" type of mode.
Also, I've always had the client set to run as admin. Launching with Arc or without does not seem to make any difference, neither does playing with the compatibility view settings. Client runs pretty much the same on all of them, but with about a 2FPS increase when I'm not using one.
I'm pretty certain that the root cause of the issue is something MS messed up with the DirectX coding in the latest updates. Any help with finding a fix would be appreciated though. b:victory

Since I'm on a mini-vacation I'll be doing a lot further testing... Right after I get some work on the "Honey Do" list and finish the hardware migration for my game servers.
Update: After extensive testing, I have not found a working solution for true full-screen mode in Win10. The best method available is to run it in a pseudo full-screen mode. For simplicity for you guys, I'm including the .ini file for you to download.
You can download the file here, then replace the existing file in C:\Games\PWI_en\element\userdata\systemsettings.ini.
This file is set for 1920x1080 resolution. If your screen is a different resolution, change the setting inside the file to your screens resolution.

Bumping this so people might see it.
You also absolutely must run the client with the "Run as Administrator" option or it will completely fill your page file to the max of 64GB and then give you "out of memory" errors. (And possible BSOD's) In my testing, this typically took several hours of gameplay to achieve.0 -
SInce I moved to Windows 10, the game will not load. I can hear it just not see it anyone else having this issue?? I get a blank screen. I even updated my graphics card and everything.. Please help, thanks0

It's like the flickering thing, but it's just black. Don't play in fullscreen and follow my earlier instructions for a windowed fullscreen.0 -
I got Windows 10 the otherday and PWI wil not load correctly I get strobe effect. Completly unplayable. As Windows 10 is rolling out as free upgrade this is going to ger a larger problem. I will try again in a week to see if it gets fixed0

Ok, My game stoped flickering. I thought that you could put the game in window mode when it uploads, but what you have to do is go in-game and go to the gear icon on the Right, then the icon that looks like a computer and click on the setting that says full to window and my resolution is 1280x720.

That or manually edit the config file. I just got done updating my sticky thread with some of the Win10 data.0

I am having an issue like this on the Windows 10 RTM version that Microsoft themselves streamed to my computer. At first, it was doing the same thing the first poster described in full-screen mode, acting like I had set my video settings too high for my card by blinking.
Then, after setting the resolution to the base resolution of my screen, I just get a blank screen (black screen) except that I can see the pointer for the game.
Weirdness gets even worse because when I force-exited the game using Task Manager and started it in Windowed Mode, everything works fine on max settings except for water, which I put down as low as they could go.
My computer is an E5-571-5552 (yes, I know, a low-budget entry level machine) but I had no problems with games like Diablo 3 with reasonable settings on this machine.
Anyone have suggestions to fix this issue? I've tried setting all settings to to their lowest and restarting the game with those lowest settings in full screen mode but no joy.0 -

Read. The. Thread.
Fullscreen mode is botched thanks to a bug in DX9 + Win10.
So for that point to anyone else; PWE can't do **** about this. The only fitting image for this forum.0 -

There are some cases where the launcher will not allow you to set the windowed resolution at the same value as your desktop resolution.0 -
Me and my husband both have to have our games on windowed mode. 1 a pc 1 a laptop. 1st time it was flashing in full before we windowed it. Now if I try full screen it's just black with pwi cursor. So its either a glitch or something to do with directx 12. But if you did not update to windows 10 then it may well be a glitch. I have no problem so far with anything else.0

I just saw this, after upgrading to Windows 10, my game looks like it is playing through a strobe light (impossible to look at without getting a headache within seconds). While I was being angry with the game, the update, and everything else on the planet (I hate playing windowed), I moused over the gear/settings icon and caught a glimpse of my framerate. It was 156fps. After I switched to windowed mode, the strobing stopped and my fps dropped to 60 even.
Is the flickering maybe being caused by the fps being faster than the refresh rate of my monitor or even the game itself maybe. If so, that would be a pretty good place to start looking for a fix I think. Then again I might just be reetaurded, but this is the only significant difference that I see between Fullscreen and windowed mode.
Thought I would drop this here in case someone smarter than me has any ideas on the subject.0 -

After some discussion, it turned out to be a compatibility bug that the dev's introduced into the way Win10 handles DX9. Last I heard, it was still being worked on. They've made some improvements to it, but it still gets buggy with some DX9 games.0 -
someone needs to sort out this issue with i run on nvidea graphics card and my wife is using a radion graphics card and we both cant play since upgrading to windows 10 why arnt the dev,s fixing this problem its a simple fix so why arnt you doing anything about it at this rate you will lose somany players the game will die atm i happy to say im having no issues with all you other games so why is it just pwi plz fix the issue0
-
found this very helpful, jsut went in to game display hit windows then set the screen size to 600/800 after game loads jsut drag and mak it bigger, there needs to be a game wide post in game and on website for this fix for its not a game issue its a dx9 and windows 10 issue0

The issue isn't with PWI. The Developers don't have anything that they need to "fix".
Did you even read my posts? I even gave you the simple workaround.
All you need it the ability to read and comprehend English, and some basic knowledge of how to work in the Windows environment.0 -
I am having similar issues as OP. I put into windows mode to resolve flickering and it worked. New issue arrived and it is that the client crashes when I actually log into the character while in windowed mode. Anyone having the same issues or find a solution yet? Please let me know. I am using updated Windows 10 (complete mistake).0
-
It crashes right after "Entering Perfect World..."0
-
That occurs when you character is on a bugged location. Hold the W key on the loading screen after character selection. May sometimes take several tries to get your toon moved off the spot.
ProTip: Don't log out standing on the head of a NPC. Causes this almost every time. There's a couple spots you'll hit doing WQ also.0 -
I hate using window mode and stretching. Will not allow me to run 1920x1080 in a window. Reverted one computer back to windows 8(sucks) and leaving other on windows 7. Maybe microsoft will get it worked out and I will try 10 again.0

I've been doing some research, and I think I've got a solution worked out. I'll be testing later today after I'm done working and get some sleep. If it works out, I'll start a new thread with a full guide.I hate using window mode and stretching. Will not allow me to run 1920x1080 in a window. My preference is the pseudo-full screen windowed mode. I keep forgetting to upload my file when I'm at home.0 -

Also updated my first post with the current systemsettings.ini file to use for 1920x1080 resolution. If you have a different default res, simply change the resolution setting inside the file.0 -
I don't think you can, but I took care of it.
thank you. i'm new to the forum

I upgraded to Windows 10 as well and did see the instructions which I followed to a T
I first had the problem of black screen, then downloaded the system file as instructed and replaced the other one with it but changed the resolution to what mine is.
I started arc as administrator and opened pwi again, but ended up with a square picture and flickering. when I went back to the system file, it was gone.
So I downloaded the system file again and stuck it in the folder. opened pwi again and square picture yet again and the flickering. Went back to the system file I just put in and it had changed it from the 1920x1080 to 800x600. >.<
I repeated the instructions. It did it again. flickering, square picture, and reset the resolution to the 800x600.
Any suggestions?0 -
1. Please tell me your resolution is not really 800x600.
2. What do you mean that you went back to the system file and it was gone? Where are you putting it? Was the client running when you put it there? Did it already exist in that location?
3. Did you take ownership of the folder?
4. Have you fully excluded the client folder from all AV scans?0 -
1. No, my resolution is not 800x600, mine is 1366x768.
2. No the program was not running. I explained what I did step by step, in order. Yes the file already existed there and I "replaced" it with the one I downloaded from your link.
I put it where you tell us to put it in your instructions-> Quote, "replace the existing file in C:\Games\PWI_en\element\userdata\systemsettings.ini."
"This file is set for 1920x1080 resolution. If your screen is a different resolution, change the setting inside the file to your screens resolution"
So, I changed the resolution to 1366x768
3. If by asking if I took ownership, you mean did I open it as System Administrator, yes I did. If you mean something else by asking that question. please explain. That may be the problem.
4. No, I did nothing with the AV since I had no problems with it before. I wouldn't think the AV is changing the resolution in the file though to something neither of us set. I could however see where that might make the file disappear altogether though.
The 2nd try, the system file I inserted in the place of the other one, had been "changed" to the 800x600 Which is not my resolution of 1366x768 nor was it the resolution in the file I downloaded 1920x1080.
Do you think my AV is causing interference?
