What about us noob non 105^3 people, we deserve a fighting chance!
Seriously though do you know how many people there are on DW with full S cards, you'd be surprised, I saw one yesterday from your faction that had pretty much full S cards but +8 on gears. lol
I know you'd taken a long break from the game and only recently came back and are therefore under geared by comparison but had this competition been held back in those DragOOnz days you would've been one of these 'squads of people with OP blah blah', and there will be other tiers I hope so everyone gets some fun.
I hope people aren't so defeatist and still participate even if they know they will lose, this is the kind of attitude we seem to lack however and most people prefer to sit on the sidelines and QQ that it's unfair and this is lame and you all suck and they didn't wanna play anyway etc etc. Would be pretty disappointing if it's just Tempest squads, but I wouldn't be surprised given the mood right about now.
Even the Kill the GM event had an almost non existent turnout so yeah.
Honestly I don't even look at people's gears to know who all is up there. So yes I would be surprised. b:laugh
Also they did that cross server tourny way back when, I never even tried for it. I probably won't even be online when this goes down. I have herniated discs and only play here and there, mostly botting to upgrade gears. It's really not about me in anyway. It's just Sparkie put up an event so lop-sided it's ****.
Trust me I do not have a defeatist attitude. My first day back I did PK tourny and was one shot by dragslave, My complete thought process was " Oh shizz better get on gears!" A lot of evolved over the past 3 years. MY comments were to shame Sparkie more than anything. Because this is what you get when the GM's/CM's do not play the game.0 -

Except he had already said they were going to be different gear brackets and this first is a trial run. There was never any pretense that this first run was going to be anyone but the highest geared. They get to run first but won't be able to participate in the lower gear brackets on those decked out toons. That's kind of the entire point of gear brackets. He had a harder limit but some people couldn't' wear their gear without their cards, some were curious how he was going to separate people who didn't fall as neatly into either bracket, etc etc. So he's letting the players make the teams and will determine the next bracket after the tournament is over based on how it all goes. Even sub level 100s will have their own bracket so that the lowbies can participate too. If you aren't going to use brackets, I honestly don't know how you'd expect to run a pvp tournament that let others participate since developing new tools isn't in his power to do.0 -

Except he said that different gear brackets for 100+ ain't happening. Nothing was properly thought out when first posted. So people start commenting, then stuff is flp flippy. At first it was ok no, then well yes cards cause like, PWI be too cheap to offer out resets n shizz. You are responsible for picking your team members, so you need to decide on who you take.
Note: I chose to do the level 100-105 bracket/no gear restriction because it was the simplest way to do it for now. The game is too unbalanced to create multiple brackets, and we need a way to test if this event is worth running in the future. With that said, you have the option to not take anyone of a lower level if you choose, but that is up to you and your team.
See 1 bracket for everyone who is 100-105. And let's face it, cards are super powerful. 105x3 is SUPER powerful. All that = bad recipe. At the very least he should have a 100+ bracket for non-rb players.0 -

IDK I read that as other brackets will happen if this one goes well. He even called it the "high" tier bracket.

Lastly, this is a test-run and should be treated as such. Everyone is still eligible for prizes, but the event may not work out as planned. That is okay! If it does not, but the community really likes it, we will revise and keep doing it!
This one is just a test run and hopefully everyone will still have a chance to win. There was never any pretense that this test run was for anyone but the best geared, and that's obviously who is going to win this time. That doesn't mean other ones won't happen if this is successful.0 -

This is, essentially, an Alpha test where he's using what he has available to get us an event. He's not as experienced with the game as we are so he's asking for comments and critiques, which have been given to help refine this into something more feasible.
Nobody realistically expects to have something they're attempting for the very first time work out 100% issue free with no problems, miscalculations, or oversights that first time. That's just plain silly. What he is doing with this is using it as a basis so that, if the event proves worthwhile, he can do multiple gear/level brackets in the future with minimal problems.
Like you said,"You ain't keeping up!"(Insert fancy image here)0 -

There have been lots of edits, but that is not how I read it when first posted. Other bracket meaning lvl under 100, was said to be happening along with this. The problem comes in at 100+. Too much gear difference for almost anyone to compete. I guess now you are telling me they pretty much scrapped lower tiers until this 100+ plays out?
How stupid is it to test an event on such a small number of over-powered people instead of gearing it on a larger test sample? Some of the other events he posted was also aimed at a small amount of people. That's not how you build community.
We already have TW, PK, NW all aimed at the best geared. That leaves out a large population. But by all means continue to alienate those people. It' no wonder we don't have many new people anymore. I have no idea how people can join this game at this point without already a group of friends or major cash shopping.0 -

Logistics.
He doesn't have any tools for this and is basically running it on his own. Plus it's something shaky at best right now. AND he's doing it on multiple servers. Attempting to test it on a huge group would be asinine at best since he, as shown here, didn't even know about how large certain factors are when it comes to this sort of thing.
Better to start with a small-scale and easily controllable test sample. Then, after viewing results, expand it to a more open thing.
This is the exact same thing EVERYONE does IRL with things like movie screenings and closed betas. Nobody is stupid enough to get a huge "test sample" at the very beginning until they've tried it on a smaller group and manage to learn from that.
Imagine if he DID try this with half of the server participating. The gear gaps would be enormous, plus the amount of people trying to find any and all ways to exploit whatever rules he makes and if it ended poorly EVERYONE would be turned away from it or any future attempts at something like it. With a smaller starting sample, on the other hand? He has much more control and flexibility and even if it doesn't go too well he can still use what he's experienced from it to make a more refined version that can appeal to a larger portion of the players.(Insert fancy image here)0 -

The mid bracket he referred to was people who are average geared and most of the gear brackets were for 100+ with varying levels of gear. He's given no indication that he's suddenly changed the meaning of medium bracket. The whole point of brackets is to give everyone a chance, and yes that includes the people already well geared. I don't know how you expect to do this without gear brackets, or why you think it would be better for the community if he did the gear bracket for people who are less likely to have done a lot of different PVP first. Trial runs are never as smooth as the real deals or as wide sweeping. You do a small group first (alphas in mmos are always a small group run, to use Kossy's example) to work out kinks. And getting people who already dedicated to PVP, will get people participating who are already better at pointing out flaws in the tournament itself.
Everyone will get a chance to participate eventually. It says that right in the post. The point of leaving out large groups of players and making the brackets narrowed is so that everyone not only has a chance of participating, but of winning. What would you rather they do if not brackets? If someone feels alienated because they don't understand why there is even a need for brackets, or who don't understand the concept, then sorry but I don't know what PWI can do for them. We already have nation wars for everyone participating at once, and the people who do the best in that is the same groups each time. That result is obvious when you just make it wide scale.0 -
Event sign-ups will start Monday 6/23/14 and will go to Friday 6/27/14.
I will start a brand new thread on Monday @ 12 Noon PDT that will allow you to sign up, so don't post here.

Also, Remember that you can only have 5 team members, however you can add up to 3 people as back ups. When you sign up, make sure to distinguish who your main team is, along with team name, and your 3 back ups. Another thing to note is that no, you may not substitute out players during a match. If you progress and wish to substitute, you may, however we will not tell you the class make-up of the team you will be going against, so it is up to you to make the decision to substitute.0 -
sparkiesoft wrote: »Okay so based off feedback, here are some projected changes. Keep in mind that these can and probably will change.
Getting everyone in the same gear and on a brand new server for this event is not possible. We don't have the tools and we're more than likely not going to get support from China anyways.
So now that's out of the way, here are some changes.
- Everything goes, charms, pots, etc.
- It goes from being 1 v 1 duels, to 5 v 5 straight pvp.
- You have to create your own teams. There will also be a set limit of 2 of each class per team. (IE, no more than 2 clerics, sins, barbs, etc.)
-If we do it this way, the grand prize still remains, which means the winning team would have to split it with each individual.
- There is a 15 minute timer.
- If there should be a tie, both teams will elect 1 person from their team to duel each other. This will go for 5 minutes. Whichever player wins, wins for their team. This only happens if there is a tie in the 5 v 5.
- The event will start on the 28th of June
- Event sign-ups will start Monday 6/23/14 and will go to Friday 6/25/14.
I will start a brand new thread on Monday @ 12 Noon PDT that will allow you to sign up, so don't post here.

- On 6/23/14 @ 12 Noon PDT, we will start the sign-ups. (All of these dates will be announced well in advance)

That's one the most stupid comments I've seen in a while in the forums. The gear has nothing to do with tiger event. Even a lowly geared character can win the contest on their class.
Before I took a break from pwi, there was a veno that was way undergeared, I think even low level, but was coming on 2nd place every week. She was doing a lot better than other venos that have r9, and was even coming close to me, who has a harpy pet.
Once again sparkie: at what time would the contest be? I hope is not at 10 am as you had said originally cause only kiddies, unemployed ppl, or ppl living in their parents basement would be able to participate (talking from the server's local time viewpoint).0 -

Now, now to be fair. Even though Im agree with you that most of the time is more skill based than gear, I have seen really weird Situations on that event, like people jumping from last to first place by doing nothing more than kill two bosses.
My brother have a veno rrr9(bad refines) and always get 2nd to 4th place, there is this other veno g16 but with better cards an nw tome that gets about the same score as my brother.
Like a month ago or so we were playing that event: me on archer, my brother on his veno and his girlfriend on her mystic. The score almost at the end on venos was:
1st rrr9 veno full maxed gear 35000 points or so
2nd rrr9 other end game veno 17.000 or so
3rd my brother's veno 15.000 or so
4th g16 veno 14.000 or something
the places 5,6 and7 had less than 12k but more than 5k
now here is the funy thing, the last venos were:
on 8 place another rrr9 veno end game with less than 3000 points
on the 3 last places people with less than 2000
this end game veno on 8th place was playing near to me, on the area where the lost jolie old jones is but her problem was that there is always a sin and an archer there and also my brother put his veno there so she move near the lost door, but there is wizard there always lol
I didnt saw her kill more than nine or ten mobs. after the first 3 minutes or so she just went afk on flyer (she was floating on an expensive flyer during all the event b:laugh )
so just like 20 seconds before all mobs get killed, she is back and start killing again, like 3 mobs, after that we all went to the 2 bosses on lost, this veno was always near me,so I can say for sure that she didnt teleport to other bosses or anything.
at The end this gal magically jump from 8th place with like 3.000 point to 1st place with more than 42.000 points by doing nothing more than killing the 2 boses o_O
so the score at the end was:
1st rrr9 42 k (afk end game veno)
2nd rrr9 39k
3rd rrr9 23k (my brother veno)
4th g16 veno 21k
5th rrr9...
I still wonder how the hell did she got more than 30.000 points by killing 2 bosses b:laugh0 -

I guess this will forever be a problem with a GM-run event. It has to be during their work hours, which of course are our work hours as well meaning many of us can't be playing. And that means no weekends, too.
Please at least put it at like 3-4PM. That's fractionally more reasonable. You could make it different days for different servers if times collide.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
