Will Sapphire shards still improve the auto atk damage for Bm's?

Ok i got some average sapphire shards and no one wants to but them so i plan on using them. I just wanna know, if i put a sapphire(+16 magic atk) shard into a Bm weapon, will my damage be increased because of that magic upgrade(like go through phy def?)?Or does only work when you use magic type skills?

    Essentially it would be this:

    16 magic attack + 5(base magic)/150 magic (magic multiplier) dmg = +16 magic attack.

    as opposed to your str and weapon mastery being weapon multipliers for a garnet. No one will buy it because its only +16, which is considered too small and basic, you'll get much better. NPC it or whatever and find an average garnet.
