Mount tips&tricks

Hello everyone,

I am in PWI for years, but just recently got my first mount (Windsprint Panther). Now i was wondering, as many other may, how do I use a mount properly. The hatching of the egg and getting on it is no problem. That is done, using the mount for a few days now. However, there are other issues that cause question marks. Perhaps i can find here people that willing to give tips, tricks etc.

1. How do I stop the mount from stuffing it's mouth? It's more hungry then a American car! b:surrender Any tips or aid in this would be great, food is just to expansive.

2. I noticed that it had a level attached, mine says level 11. But how do I level this and if just by using it will do thr trick, why don't i see anything change?

3. I noticed some mounts can be colored, which pets can be colored. And how can I gain dye without those darned high prices people use?

4. Any usefull tips or tricks for mounts besides the 3 points above? Please do tell!

1 - Have ANY tome equipped,even a plain Christmas Tome,your mount won't get hungry
2 - A mount can gain -only- 1m/s speed by simply riding it.Older mounts can be spurred up to 11m/s,newer mounts all starts with 10m/s then after a few hours of usage they get to 11m/s
3 - Only the newer mounts can be dyed,and the cheaper way to dye em is to try your luck and use Random Dyes which are the cheapest dyes you can get,hopefully you'll get a decent colour.Random Dyes can also be obtained with DQ points.

ok, then ill need to find a way to gain a tome. How I get one without paying for those? do they drop somewhere? if yes, have co-oords and creature names for me? Levels also preffered.

I have a feeling that you just told me why it didn't go faster or even level at all. So I guess this will have to do until I have some gold to purchase a newer pet. b:sad

For the dyes, it's kinda sad that there is no dye merchant NPC somewhere just like in Guildwars. Would be clear and simple. But oh well, your suggestion of buying random dyes seems to be the best option for me. Since i'm trying to save up DQ points for my barbarian, he still needs his fashion set. b:laugh

- Ways to obtain a tome(Not including directly buying it).
> Farm in Delta/Gamma Tome Fragments and combine with Pages to make Tomes at 1k Streams forges.
> Open the box thing you get at the start of the game,at lv.70 it gives a Christmas Tome,too bad it requires 2 Perfect Iron Hammers and its not worth the cost.
\\As a reference,in Sanctuary Server the cheapest tome available is 1,3M -- Due to high gold prices at the moment,usually you can find a Christmas Tome in range from 1M to 500k if you are lucky(Hardly now with gold so high).

- As above a mount doesn't gain more than 1m/s than its original speed,however keep in mind that to increase its speed it should be feeded first to at least 500/999 so that it gains Exp faster,not sure if it gains any exp at 0/999 loyalty(Maybe but very slowly).Feeding a mount also lower the chance to be knocked off when you're hitted by a mob while riding it,even at max loyalty there is always 10% chance to be knocked off.

- Dyes in this game are simply crazy expensive,at the moment in Sanctuary Server Black/White Dyes(The most expensive around),are like 3/4M each,a Fashion Top has an average need of 11/13 dyes to be colored(Not counting the rest -- pants,shoes,gloves),you can guess that's pretty much insane getting a pure colored fashion that way,just check AH often to hope that someone gets bored of his pure-colored Fash and sells it to a discount price.Or as I said,try your luck with random dyes,I get quite some nice colours in few tries(Based on my preferences),I even got a couple pure black fashion via this method.

Farming part, well that may be interresting. neer really done farms for specific items like these though. But ill see what I can do in that.

Buying is deffo a no go since I used 2mil on my pet + food for it. So need to regain coins somehow b:chuckle

Pet loyalty is atm 999/999, so at maximum. For some reason I have a 100% chance of getting knocked off. Never had a single time that I actually remained on it.

For some reason I had a suspision that black and white would be the most expansive, hihi. With Guildwars this is the same. But even with the great hints you given, I think ill skip the dye part. For now simply to expansive. b:victory

The panther isn't dyeable anyways.

Tomes are purchasable in the Auction House, with the "Christmas Tome" (+1% crit) usually being the cheapest. For more info on them see the "Mystical Tome" entry at the PWI wiki.

As for farming the tome, you can farm the Mystical Tome Fragments, but you still have to buy the Mystical Tome Pages (3 Fragments and 4 Pages = 1 level 1 tome), so they're not entirely farmable either.

You might want to consider tossing $10 into the game, which with the current Zen sale (ends tonight!), will probably net you over 20 million coins when you trade the gold for coins at the Auction House.

Finally, level 11 is the max level for a mount, so it won't get any faster (unless you buy spurs for it, see the Ground Mounts entry at the PWI wiki for details).

The panther not being dyeable i already understood, was trying to figure things out for a new mount instead. Planning to get myself some more gold and buy a new mount from the store. Besides other things I will need.

For the farming I kinda need more information then that. I didn't hear anyone say where they drop and by what monster. For that matter, what level these are.

For the Zen sale, well all nice and all, but I boughed earlier some and I only got the normal rate, so just 10 gold total. Meaning I never got that Zen sale at all. It's kinda to late to buy new as well for that zen sale thing...

Hmm... then I need to buy spurs for it. I noticed there are 2 spurs, but which one would be best for the panther? And for that matter, when I revert it to a egg, does that mean the spurs are gone aswell? Or do they stay attached?

- Farming Part >> Search for a Delta Guide in these forums.
- Read the spurs description.............one upgrade from 8.0 to 9 and the other from 9 to 10(Base speed,not considered the extra 1.0 you get)
- The spur will not get lost even if you hatch/revert your panther 1000 times.

As SoulRequiem above said, you get them from Rebirth Gamma and Rebirth Delta. Rebirth is an instance where you and a squad are attacked by waves of monsters and bosses and have to protect a target from those mobs. Rebirth Alpha is level 40-55, Beta is 65-70, Gamma is 71-85, and Delta is 86+. Alpha and Beta are quite difficult, thus done much more rarely.

To change it from a base 8 speed to a base 9 you'd use Spurs of Alacrity, and from base 9 to base 10 you'd use Galewind Spurs (as mentioned on the Ground Mounts page). Once the mount is "upgraded" with the spurs it's effectively a new kind of mount, and that won't go away if you revert it to an egg (though loyalty will still reset to zero). So the Windsprint Panther (base 8) becomes the Swift Onyx Jaguar (base 9), which becomes the Quick Onyx Jaguar (base 10).

ah, see this helps a bit more understanding how to update it. Mine is lvl 11 now with 100% loyalty, would that change the outcome of what it will be after adding those spurs? Or does that make the same outcome?

Basically, no, your mount's current stats don't affect its stats after you spur it.

Having your mount at level 11 means that it's at its base speed +1 m/sec (each level above level 1 is +0.1 m/sec). Having >50% loyalty means the lowest odds of being knocked off your mount when you take any damage.

I'm pretty sure that if you spur your mount it resets its level, but I'm not 100% positive about that. I'm not sure what happens to loyalty if you do that, but it's easy enough to get it back up if it resets.
