I know this is a stupid question, but I wonna ask, what is ZEN? People in my faction say ZEN = gold. And I see $10.00 USD = 1000 ZEN. Does that mean it is 1000 gold?b:surrender

    100 Silver = 1 Gold
    1 USD = 1 Gold
    1 Silver = 1 Zen

    So 100 Zen = 1 Gold = 1 USD

Zen is the Name of the Virtual Currency you buy and it can be used on any Game thats run by this company. In Perfect world you buy "Gold" with it in "Insert other game here" you buy "Aurum" or talons or whatever the word for the Cash Shop Currency is.

The above posts are right on the money. Also, keep your eyes out for promotional offers that pop up on the launcher or the main PWI page from time to time. (There's one going right now for instance).

wait, who says Genotypist is a GM. The only title I see on Genotypists profile is Administrator. That could mean anything from Company President, to PR Manager. It does not necessarily mean that the individual in question is in fact a Game Master which is an entirely different job description from Administrator. In fact if memory serves, not even Frankie is a GM, yet he is still an Administrator and the Community Manager for this section of the PWE site.

IMO, Zen is a somewhat ridiculous concept.

I believe it would be easier for people like the OP if $1 USD = 1 zen = 1 gold. Thus, $10 = 10 Zen = 10 Gold and there isn't this silly Zeros dance going on. For offers where you get silver added in, say, like now where you put a $50 in and get 60 gold 50 silver, just make it 60.50 zen, instead of 6050 zen.

I think the reason they did it this way is so they can have 'earn zen by clicking ****!' offers, and they lure you with 50 zen, but lo and behold, that's only 50 silver. Though, most of the offers have been 5 gold or so, if they are even willing to pay in the end (and apparently the vast majority are not).

So... Zen is more confusing that it has to be. A decimal would be beneficial.

This is kind of rediculous. 50 USD = 50 Gold regardless. The point of having 50 USD = 5,000 ZEN = 5,000 Silver is because Silver is supposed to be a smaller currency in the cash shop than Gold that is roughly equivalent to the US Currencies own Pennies. Having Zen be equal in value to Gold and USD would defeat the purpose of having Silver in the first place. It would also make it more difficult to have a standardized currency across all of the Perfect World Entertainment Games' Cash Shops which would defeat the method of how this company makes it's primary source of income and in turn shut the company down.

actually not if you play the game intelligently. You really don't have to charge squat if you know how to play these sorts of games. I mean making a primary merchanting account is a good starting point for being able to play this game without ever having to charge Zen. Also knowing what to merchant and where is another prime way to be able to play this game without ever having to charge a thing. Just because some people like to spend hundreds of dollars on this game doesn't mean that everyone who plays the game does so.

uh huh... you actually don't have to leave your computer on if as I said you have a dedicated Merchanting account and you aren't opposed to multi-clienting that account and your main account simultaneously. Then you only need to have your merchant account merchanting during the same hours that you are normally spending playing the game on your main account. But I can see how some people would feel that you would need to leave your computer on 24/7, its a common misconception about merchants.

um... i have 2 pc's, i dnt' even need to multi... but what's the point of a cat shop full of HUNDEREDS of things if you're not going to leave it up to try to sell em. Hell some poele only play for 5 hours.... not gonna sell much if u just leave a shop up that long....

five hours selling a high demand high quantity item is better than 0 hours of not even trying to sell anything at all in my philosophy. At least if you tried for 5 hours, and you were any good at it, you would make some profit during that amount of time.

There are of course alternatives to both Cash Shopping and Merchanting of course. You can farm for DQ Items, TT and Nirvana Mats, and various other things that you can sell either to other players or to the NPC's for your profit. Just because there are people who cash shop doesn't mean everyone has to cash shop.

I have been buying and reselling a particular high demand high quantity item for the past several days. I have made enough money to keep my characters stocked on essential items. And have now made enough revenue that I am about at the threshold where I can start making a massive profit increase. Once I start doing that I no longer will be hurting for money the way I had been up till now, even with my sparse cash shopping once a month. This has become a much more steady revenue source for me than any cash shopping has ever been and I am glad I have decided to pursue it.

Yes I personally leave my game on 24/7 save for during power outages and maintenances. But is because no one but me touches my computer and no one but me complains if I do so. That said, if I wanted to, I could easily only have the game running during the hours that I am playing the game and still make a decent profit. Just because I have the luxury to have a character on 24/7 doesn't mean I have to.

for the record. I have done that before. Did quite nicely for what I was selling at the time. Though at the time I was significantly lower level, selling Level 20 DQ Items in areas where those items are in high demand.

To further complicate things, I have also made quite a bit of profit selling primarily through the Auction House which is another method that some Merchants use to get rich. Not all merchants use the Cat Shop system as their primary means by which to turn a profit. And in the case of the Auction House you don't actually have to be online while it is doing the job for you.

For us Europe is kinda like this:

    12.40 euros --967 zen
    6.20 euros --484 zen
    3.71euro--120 zen

So before they put those prices I use to put money in the game not much but 10-12 euros at salary. My wife buy fashion some charms, not big deal but the day they change those rates i did not put 1 cent in this game. I'm not paying 4 euros for 1 Gold. I mean..really....
I rather spend 10 h farming then spend my real money on some lame gold
