How doI Advance My Harvesting Level

Still unsure about this though. Is it my craft level that determines what I can collect? I just went up to level two in weapon crafting, so will that mean I can now collect the second level of materials that weapons need?

If not, is it a matter of collecting the right resources enough times? And how can I tell where I am in that?

some resources, your character needs to be a certain level to collect. such as grade 2 herbs or materials, i think you need to be level 20 or above. but there's no such thing as a harvesting skill, and the crafting skills have nothing to do with it.

Thanks, that explains it all for me.

So I need to be sure to level up at least one character to collect resources for some of my crafters who are lower level.

Normally the area tends to dictate who can collect resources in an MMO. Interesting that the character's level determines it here. Guess they don't want anyone collecting on the fringes of a too high level zone.

eventually you'll run into the next roadblock: to get your crafting skills leveled up past certain milestones, your character needs to be of a certain level, too. e.g., you can't get level 4 of any crafting skill on a character that isn't level 50.

most people put their crafting skills on their main and highest leveled char, and use their lower alts for gathering what mats they can. there's really no such thing as a "crafting mule" in PWI.
