Any general estimate on the cost of going from level 1-6 in tailoring? Specifically, is it cheaper to just buy the boutique item that takes you straight to level 8? (30 gold x 700 k == 21 mil in coins).

Although I haven't exactly done the math behind it, I imagine this has alot to do with server prices & method used to get there.

If you collect the mats as you level to make the items for the lvl 4 & lvl 6 "tests", it's far cheaper to do it yourself. If you've waited until endgame and don't have the alts capable of farming the mats, it could very well be cheaper to just buy the skill. Catshops are usually fairly expensive for the mats, and it takes quite a few even if you're lucky with your combines.

Either way, I can tell you that the time/effort required to level up your tailor/smithing skills is enough to make most people want to buy them instead. If you feel you can afford it, you might wanna save yourself the time and just buy it :)

I think it would be cheaper overall to buy the mats that you need from catshops and try to make the 2 stars. I might just have been lucky, but the majority of the 2 stars that I needed (I have: blacksmith lv. 8, tailor lv. 7, and craft lv. 7), I made on the 1st try.

It may also be worth looking in the Auction House for the 2 star item required to complete the quest. At least on Raging Tide it isn't uncommon for Fuzzy to see them listed for sale. Purchasing them that way may save you a few coins compared to the 21m quoted to buy the books from the boutique.
