    Way to go, I had issues with that one the first time :3

    Sure... let's see...

    There are a few calculus ones to "proove" that 1 = 0, but I don't know if you have any background in calculus. A fast one that I can pull off the interwebs is this one that messes with the associative property and infinite series:

    Given a convergent series --> 0 = 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 +...
    Remember that 0 = 1 - 1, so substitute that --> 0 = (1 - 1) + (1 - 1) + (1 - 1) +...
    Now we use the associative property --> 0 = 1 + (-1 + 1) + (-1 + 1) + (-1 + 1) +...
    Keeping in mind that 0 = 1 - 1 (and, of course, -1 + 1) --> 0 = 1 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 +...

    This leaves us with the very incorrect statement that 0 = 1

    As for more fun and creative ones, I haven't the time to find them right now.

    Keep in mind that math will never die, but you eventually will b:cute

    Well that certainlly isn't true. It died in my heart ;/

    I've some knowledge in pretty much every practically applicable branch of mathematics :o

    Seriously though. I love stuff like this. No joke :3

    Thanks :3 Yaaahh we're doing proof by induction at school. Some of the problems are just annoying >.<

    I don't think I know enough calculus to do this one o.O does it involve some property of convergent series?

    I think these are pretty fun. I make my students spot the errors in proofs and try to really make them as hard as possible. They get cookies at the end of the week if they can answer the really challenging problems. (Challenging for high school anyway...) b:victory

    You're on the right track. The first series is a classic convergent series ( 0 = 0 + 0 +...) but the following ones are divergent. So it's doubly wrong because a divergent series doesn't "equal" anything and because the associative property does not apply to a divergent series.

    If you look at it, it will always equal 0 or 1, depending on how far you move the summation along. I just conveniently stopped it when it was equal to 1, which is wrong since the series itself is an infinite sum.

    That's because no one bothers to learn grammar and most curricula leave it out to stress reading instead.

    You don't like reading or grammar?

    Unrelated, but I wonder if I can get away with making a topic about math without it getting locked? What'd'ya say, Grim? Let me get away with it and I won't harass you anymore with it since it'll all be in one place and I won't have to derail topics anymore!
