Cheapest way to get +6

For the past year, I have been using Dragon Orbs to refine everything and it has costed/been costing a lot to do that. I have heard that people use tishas and tienkang stones, just whenever I use them they never seem to work very well.

Are there any VERY cheap ways to get +6? Or would the easiest/safest bet be just farming the coins for the +3,4,5,6 orbs?

Thanks for any replies.

    Search is your friend, someone made a guide about the cheapest way to refine forever ago and I don't feel like dredging it up.

    Safest would obviously be dragon orbs, because they have 100% success rate. Statistically, it would be cheaper to gamble with mirages and stones, but it is, after all, a gamble.

    That always seem to fail with me, I used 50 or so tisha/tienkangs to go from +3-+1

    Mmm, I've had pretty good luck with about 2 pieces of my gear, average luck with another, and really bad luck with 2 pieces of gear, so I guess I'm mostly average with those chart stats.

    In fact those two pieces of unlucky gear haven't even reached +5 yet QQQQ

    In normal gambling like at casinos the odds are against you but with tisha / tienkang you can expect +6 to come out like 75% cheaper than with orbs. With odds that good you really shouldn't pay the Dorb premium (at least for +6).

    There most likely isn't a difference, just another myth.

    There most likely isn't a difference, just another myth.

    There was a chart somewhere...here it is:
    # +1 => governor of Land of Biting

    # +3 => governor of Canyon of Avalanche
    # +3 => governor of Myriad Ridge
    # +3 => governor of Hasten Plain
    # +3 => governor of Unworried Path
    # +3 => governor of Land of Buried Bones
    # +4 => governor of Ancient Path of Haunting - 539 954
    # +4 => governor of Town of Forwarding Wind - 429 739
    # +4 => governor of Lake of Sky - 450 568
    # +4 => governor of South Screen Mountain
    # +5 => governor of City of Misfortune
    # +5 => governor of Shining Tide Woods
    # +5 => governor of Skyscrapping Cliff
    # +5 => governor of White Ridge
    # +6 => governor of Ancient Great Wall
    # +6 => governor of Dragon Wilderness
    # +6 => governor of Orchis Serene Valley
    # +6 => governor of Black Mountain
    # +7 => governor of Foredawn Plain
    # +7 => governor of Silk Ridge
    # +7 => governor of Peach Dock
    # +7 => governor of Ridge of Dreaming Cloud
    # +8 => governor of Residual Mountain
    # +8 => governor of Vicinage Town
    # +8 => governor of Sea of Desert
    # +9 => governor of Walled Stronghold
    # +9 => governor of Hill of Scented
    # +9 => governor of Astound Ridge
    # +10=> governor of Mount of Lantern
    # +10=> governor of Sundown Highland
    # +10=> governor of Ancient King's Tripod
    # +11=> governor of Fire Bathing Village
    # +11=> governor of Source of Ebb Water
    # +11=> governor of Swamp of Wraith
    # +12=> governor of Plain of Leaving
    # +12=> governor of Haze Forest

    MY-EN names. Don't feel like translating atm. How true it is...I have no idea. My luck always sucked when refining with Governors.

    So you're saying there is something to it...

    I'm saying I'm not able to stare at their code and tell you for 100% that there is no difference, but I'm willing to bet that there isn't any difference at all.

    I did this for our guild forum:

    Faction you're in must control the specific piece of land.

    +1 Harshlands

    +2 Frozen Path

    +3 Windswept Grasslands, Avalanche Canyon, Courage Path, Land of Buried Bones

    +4 Tradewind Villiage, Haunted Path, Great Lake, Southern Pass

    +5 Orchid Temple, Misfortune, Stairway to Heaven, White Ridge

    +6 Hidden Orchid, Dragon Wilderness, Ancient Wall, Black Mountain

    +7 Silk Ridge, Broken Plain, Peach Blossom Grove, Ridge of Dreaming Cloud

    Refining past +7 on Tishas and Mirages is not recommended.

    +8 Wellspring Village, Ancient Peak, Deserted Sea

    +9 Fragrant Hills, Walled Stronghold, Vibrant Cliffs

    +10 Sundown Town, Mount of Lantern, King's Feast

    +11 Dribbling Spring, Immolation Camp, Swamp of the Wraiths

    +12 Dragon's End, Plain of Farewells, Forest of Haze

    *Refine bonuses have not been proven or confirmed.

    WarrenWolfy pretty much proved it doesn't matter where you refine. Duke Blacke is a liar (just like the mythological figure he's based off).

    I've gotten plenty of +7/8 refines from Arch Elder.

    The only 2 ways I can think of to be 100% sure would be to either get the current PWI server source code (impossible), or run a current copy of the PWI server object code (also impossible) and run a debugger like IDA Pro.

    If PWE feels like letting me look at their current source code, or if PWI feels like letting me run IDA Pro on one of their servers, then I'd be happy to confirm it 100%. b:chuckle

    The "secret" (which has been publicly posted as a sticky in the Crafting section "Refining for Cheap" thread) isn't to just use a particular type of refining aid and hope it will magically work, because that won't help you and will probably end up costing a lot more than Dragon Orbs. Rather, the secret is to always use the correct refining aids for whatever refining level you're currently trying to achieve, and the way to know that is to use the spread-sheet.

    So, for example, at current prices the spread-sheet instructs you to use Mirages-only to get to +3, then switch to Tienkangs. If it fails, start over with Mirages-only. Repeat, repeat, repeat until successful.

    Other than that it's just a matter of patience. A LOT of patience.
