Why was this thread closed as a troll?

I was just like the OP when I first started playing MMOs. Shyness is a real problem for some people, and MMOs are a great way to work on overcoming it because you can interact with people anonymously and without having to be face to face with them. Just because some closed-minded people who can't understand it decide it must be a troll isn't grounds for closing it. The OP was level 45, not a new character on a new account like a typical troll post.

And yes, his subject line isn't a troll. For a shy person, it really is a strange physical sensation which grips your entire body the first few times you force yourself to interact with people. It feels kind of like having the hairs on the back of your neck stand, combined with butterflies in your stomach.

    +1 to this, the OP didn't seem like a troll to me either. I would have just edited the troll posts and left it unlocked, and before anyone says that I'm a wannabe mod for these forums.... HELL no, I want a long, healthy life and no more grey hairs :p

    u gota be kidding...shelly do u just get stupider with each close?, so u delete comments on another thread to keep the thread open to discussion still and gets rid of the flame posts, but u just close a legit post cos of some total morons that shud of just had there post deleted or banned for about 20 mins to keep them the hell out with there *sayings* that have been done over 9000 times...nice, just nice.

    u shud re-open that thread and delete the stupid troll comments to carry on the discussion, cos thats actualy a good topic...god damn useless mods sometimes -_-.

    I wouldn't be so harsh. I can understand why people (even mods) could misinterpret the OP. It's not something that's widely known since shy people by definition don't run around telling others about the problems they face.

    I only made this thread because I can see an incident like this scarring the OP into not trying to interact again for weeks or months. He seems to have a much worse case of it than I did if he's gone for years playing solo. It "only" took me a couple months to start overcoming it. My whole thing about figuring out game mechanics started partly as a way to occupy my time while I was playing alone.

    We need to change the title of the "Moderators" to the "Pot-Stirrer" or "Inciter" since it is obvious they don't moderate anything but incite riots and stir the pot.

    yea i can see where ur coming from, it took me a couple months odd on my very 1st time playing mmos, but some ppl are worser then others by alot, i have a cousin for e.g thats possibly the most shy person ive ever met, he uses the internet aswell but he doesnt use msn cos thats interacting with ppl and hes still far to shy even for that,
    thing is as i said hes my cousin, i wud give him a call to come to mine and wed just have a blast on the xbox or somethin, or he wud come round randomly which was good, thing is at some point he just stoped comin round and i never got round to asking him to come round, now hes back into an insanely shy shell and doesnt do much of anything with any1.

    point im getting at is, the OP cud easily be serious if hes anything like my cousin so im doubting its a troll thread realy, just the morons that trolled it.

    After someone trolls, you can ignore the troll and keep posting. When the thread is locked, what are you going to do? Ignore the lock and keep posting?

    Plus if someone trolls on your welcome thread, it's at least a welcome of sorts from the community. When a mod locks your first thread it's a kick to the face.
