I have read a few older threads about "the best genie skills" and "second wind vs. TOP" but I'm still fairly unsure about the best setup for myself. I am at 73 right now, nonherc/nix for at least the near future, almost pure magic. Any advice about genie skills or which is better Second Wind/TOP in my situation.
Thx,
GW

It really does depend on how much hp you've got, as Second Wind heals for a fixed amount while the more expensive ToP is proportional to the size of your hp pool. This makes ToP a better choice only when it will heal a much larger amount than Second Wind. The second consideration would be what other skills you will be using as this affects statting, a mostly Str genie will benefit most from Second Wind while a Str/Dex combinatination works best for ToP and it is commonly the heal used in Dex based genies. Do keep in mind that some commonly used skills such as Holy Path are not really affected that much by stats.

As an almost pure mag, and being likely for you to have an hp pool under 3k at your level, Second Wind would probably be the better choice for you. For a veno i would recommend including Extreme Poison or Tangling Mire amongst your skills for PvE, the latter working best for a Str based genie that would most benefit Second Wind. This setup would also allow you to use Occult Ice if you want to PvP and will eventually benefit Cloud eruption the most. As a Zeal would be the best choice for this build you would also get Eartflame, a skill that would allow you to lure without using your pet.

Personally i run a Str/Dex Longevity with ToP, EP, Earthquake and Holy Path.

Few HP = strength genie with Second Wind
More HP = dex or strength/dex genie with Tree of Protection

I have a bit of Vitality in my build, and when I hit 90 I'm going to restat to AA/HA hybrid (and when I restat, I'll be refining my gear so that it gets good HP bonuses). So I use a Strength/Dex genie with Tree of Protection.

Currently, my genie has 41 Strength and 40 Dex, and the following skills:

Tree of Protection (strength and dex)
    Extreme Poison (dex)
    Hollow Fist (strength and dex)
    Tangling Mire (strength)

EP, HF, and TM are all defense debuffs, plus HF does physical and metal damage.

So far, this combination has worked well.

The solution space for how much ToP heals vs str/dex is discontinuous. In most cases, ToP's heal is maximized with a 60 str genie (rest of points dumped into dex. If your genie doesn't have 60 str, then the points are best allocated to dex. I don't recall if it was all-dex or mostly-dex which gave the best results, and I can't find the sheet where I did the calcs. Point for point, dex definitely gives a better return than str. But the problem is once you get over 45 or 60 dex (depending on genie), each additional dex point costs 2 stat points while str only costs 1 stat point.

So if your str genie has at least 60 str, ToP can work well with it.
