Ranged Pets

I've been looking around, trying to get a sense of what pets to use with my veno, and so far I've been doing pretty good with the Glacial Walker and Dark Wanderer. I'm level 28 now and I haven't had a need for anything else; my scorpion got ditched somewhere around 5 levels ago. I realize he's better at DPS than the other two, but the difference between his survivability to the others is greater than the difference between their damage outputs so I really felt I didn't need him. I'm also not at a point where I need a flying pet, and I figure when I do I'll wait a few levels for anything requiring air battles to catch a Pinnear Foxwing, or maybe even save up and buy a Windwalking Piggy.
However, the problem I'm having right now involves the quests to kill ranged mobs over near Orchid Temple. They're kiting my pets and I end up getting adds more often than not. Up until this point, everything had been much easier than with my previous (and first) toon, which was an archer. It didn't take long to realize that if I had a ranged pet (and used it right), the mobs wouldn't kite and I wouldn't be getting so many adds. However, after searching around, I couldn't come across a list of just ranged pets, and any complete pet lists I found didn't specify whether they were ranged or not. Searching the forums for ranged pets only got me recommendations above my level as well, so can anyone either tell me a good ranged pet around my level I can use for now until I get one of the Eldergoths that seem to be the ranged pet of choice, or even better, produce a list that details which pets are ranged and hopefully help anybody else searching for a similar answer?

I don't think there are any near your level. The only one I can think of is a level 4 cactus, and that would obviously take some time to level up and probably wouldn't be worth it in the end if you only want to use it for a few levels.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

there's the jealous cactopod at level 17, but that's still eleven levels of grinding the pet up.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0

One of the best ranged pets is an Eldergoth (Marksman or Sharpshooter), but those start at around...41, I think? There are lower level Eldergoths, but i'm not sure if those are ranged as well, and I'm pretty sure those are around the same level as the cactopods.0

41 is the lowest tameable Eldergoth (the others are 46, only one of which is ranged.)
Something you can do to deal with runners is have your pet on manual, and call it back when the mob runs away.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You can solve the problem with your pet being kited without using a ranged pet. Set the pet mode to manual, then send it in to attack. As soon as the mob starts kiting, call the pet back (don't stow it, just click the "follow" button). The mob will follow the pet, then let pet attack again. Usually, the mobs get tired after two tries to kite, and will stay to be beaten up by you and your pet.
This is especially useful in instances like bh39 and bh51 where you have these little hopper gnomes (don't remember the name), they always try to run to their friends for support.0 -
An Eldergoth Archer exists in the database and may show up in future versions.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0

Thanks for the replies on how to handle ranged mobs, it helped quite a bit. And that Eldergoth Archer sure is interesting, hope they do something with it.0
