This may sound stupid, but below is the mail I sent to PWI for an explanation and their answer. How am I supposed to understand the answer please?
Does it mean when my pet is less then 21 lvl lower then me it will not get EXP??

Here my mail:
I am lvl 78 veno and have noticed in the last few days, that when I use my lvl 74 Elysium Fowl to kill lvl 77 or lvl 78 mobs, my pet always only gets 1 point exp. Same problem with my magmite (Lvl 65) as well as my mermaid rustler (lvl 57).
We have tested this and every veno's pet who tested under those conditions gets 15 exp.
Under same condition, I mean lvl of pet vs lvl of mob.

PWI's answer:
Please check to make sure you have fully fed your pet. Also, if the pet is close to your max EXP and level the pet will not gain exp.

Ofc my pets are fully fed, I have a tome and what pls indicates "close to my exp and lvl"?? In all seriousness the mermaid is 21 lvl below me ?????????

Please would a kind soul explain this to me. Thanks in advance

They mean the loyalty of your pet, the little yellow bar, it must be full (well over 500/999) or your pet wont get max exp per kill.

Sounds like your pets' loyalties are very low. Tomes only prevent pets from getting hungry, they have no affect on loyalty levels (except preventing loss of loyalty from hunger.) When your pet dies, or is newly hatched, you're still going to have to feed it up to increase its loyalty; the pets only get 15 XP per kill when their loyalty is 500 or above.

The tome only prevents your pet from losing loyalty over time. You still have to feed them to raise their loyalty. You need to get loyalty (the third bar, at the bottom of your pet's stats) over 50% to get 15 exp per kill. If its loyalty is zero, it will get 1 exp per kill.

Every time the pet dies, it loses loyalty, and you have to feed it again to bring loyalty up.

They mean if the pet is the same lvl as you and is max XP it will not gain anymore and level until you have leveled.

...And when leveling a pet: If your pet has over 500 loyalty it will get 15 exp points if the mob level is at least 3 levels below your pet. Lets say you have recently aquired a Baby Blazing Phoenix, those birds start at level 1. Let's say you are level 70. To level your bird, you will want to start with level 1 mobs 1st cause they are a lot easier to kill for you. When the bird gets to level 4 you will want level 2 mobs at least and so on.

Or just go for level 30 mobs right off and get more exp?

I think, if everything the OP has said is true, that there was some sort of glitch. A pet should gain at least some visible exp, even at low loyalty, when the mobs are higher than it's level.

No, the pet will only gain 15 EXP max so lvl 1 pet attacking lvl 1 or 30 mobs makes no difference.

I tested on one of my venos and i known that pet whit full loyality <999> will recive double XP when he will attack higher level mobs as he is.
I used that factor to train my 2X pet on mobs at Archo South gate but tere is a catch for that tactic and i mean that to training on higher level mobs is required maxed pet heal in order to quick resore his HP.
However it is true that as close pet is to mobs level he will recive less XP no matter what his loyality is untill he will reach same level as his owner.

So loyality is a key for good pet's XP and that is why good choice will be to purchase some pet food, level his loyality to max and then starting using tomes.

    off topic:
Gives Hamsta huge bag of sunflower seeds b:thanks

Wrong. The maximum XP a pet can receive from any mob regardless of level of the pet or the mob is 15xp. Period. It doesn't matter what level of creature you kill, if your pet is at full loyalty, the max they can get is 15xp per kill.

My Phoenix is at full loyalty. My Phoenix is at level 77 (still needs some XP to fill up his bar). My phoenix killing a level 100 mob (and he can) still gets the same amount of XP as he gets from killing a level 77 mob, and that is 15 xp.

The lower the level of creature you kill under your pets level, the less XP they get until they get none at all (my level 47 Guardian Wolf at full loyalty gets no xp from killing a level 21 mob).

If your pet has less than full loyalty (and full loyalty is measured by him gaining 150%xp per kill) then the lower his loyalty the lower the xp gain as well.

    This. Is. Correct.

What matters is the pets level vs the mobs level, the pet has to be no more than 10 higher than the mob, and gains an extra point for each level the mob is up to their level (for 10 points). The multiplier for loyalty is then applied (up to 1.5x)

The only advantage to killing things much higher than your pet (and yeah, even at 63 my nix is able to kill the level 106 stuff) is that you get more xp and higher quality drops.

Oh, and if you're trying to level your pet up a lot it can be annoying to move from area to area - especially at the very low levels. Might as well start out at, say, the level 10 or 20 area - if you can 1-shot the monsters there anyway they're no harder than level 1 ones.

Others already said it, but loyalty is simple really.

Base exp per kill is 10 for a mob that's the level of your pet or higher. Base exp drops by 1 for every level your pet is above the mob. So if it's 1 level higher it gets 9, 2 levels it gets 8, and so on down to zero.

The base exp is modified by the modifier according to how much loyalty your pet has.
    At 0 it's 10%.
From 1-250 (I think) it gets 50% exp.
From 251-500 it gets 100% exp.
From 501-999 it gets 150% exp.

The values truncate, so if you kill something worth say 7 base exp, the pet would gain:
    7*.1=.7=0
    7*.5=3.5=3
    7*1=7
    7*1.5=10.5=10

There's also an attack modifier on the various loyalty points, 1-250 is 80%, 251-500 is 100%, 501+ is 120%, and I forget the modifier at 0. So, keeping your pets fed is worthwhile.
