Can anyone tell me what gold foil is used for if anything?

    That's mainly what it is used for these days, scamming newer players into thinking they are buying CS gold.

    You wasted 2000 coins. Someone opened one of the Nanmuwood chests (those chests with the ring of low level flower mobs around them). These chests have been openable since about patch 166, but they only turn up low level junk and the occasional gold foil worth 1000 coins at NPC.

    you can open the chests now?

    (those "lowlvl" flower mobs are actually quite tough... and respawn quickly)

    Originally it was an item called N/A with 3 Chinese characters behind it. It didn't seem to serve an apparent purpose except to sell for 1k coin.

    After the recent patch the item was given a real name which is the Gold Foil you see now. And yes the only apparent purpose for it at the moment is to still sell it for 1k.

    Its probably like those useless items you get from low lvl mobs, like ragged (not rough) fur and lime stone.

    The chest seems to be quite good for players around the level of the area, it gives lv.19 gear, 1-3 gold foils, myst. items(same as WQ ones), and low level mats. My friend found the bug and we collected a few.

    Nanmuwood's are the only openable ones afaik, I checked the other random chests and they don't open.
    Currently flying internet spaceships around dodixie, moving to amarr soon.

    It might be one of those items that are leftover from the Chinese version of the game. Right now, they're there in PWI, but have no value, but used to in the original version of the game. Kind of like the iron chests you see in various places are.

    It does seem very left over... but they did translate the name last week. So they might be implementing the Nanmu Key quest and possibly the higher versions.

    It does have value(1k npc price) but no use as of yet at least.

    The PW Databass, gold foil drops from the namni wood chests. When I looked up the gold foil, a few other queries caught my eye. These items seem to have different grades, Gold Foil being the lowest. The icon stays the same, but the names change as they seem to get better grade. My only guess is that they are some crafting component or quest item that isn't implemented yet.

    I think I recall Andracil saying as long as it hasn't been longer than three months, and the post actually has something to contribute to the discussion, I.E. not just saying something idiotic like "i lold" then it's not considered to be necroposting.

    Um, that's for a cultivation quest. For Cultivation 89 sage fairy to be exact.
