How good is -3% channeling gear in general when its not stacked? Will I see an improvement at all when I have like 1-2 pieces of it total, or is it not worth it until I can get more?0

I personally hate channeling gear. If you can get 12% you'll see a difference, but even then it's not much. Until PWI gets channeling shards I wouldn't bother.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Rathi/Pandora
When you have -3% from your sword (-6% on gold TT90), -6% sleeves, -6% on each ring, -6% necklace, -6% belt, and -3% from your chest piece, you can channel a sandstorm in 1.5 seconds, or a heal in under 3 seconds. Get a cleric to red bubble and you will think sutra is a waste of sparks/chi, especially if you have -channel potions for oh **** moments when you need to heal someone or cast an ulti.
But yes, one piece of -channel gear is not really impressive, however, when you go hog wild on it, it makes a huge difference0 -

You can channel a sandstorm in 1.5 seconds! Yeahhhh boiiii! Oh wait, sandstorm has a 1.5 second solid cast time that you can't reduce no matter what you do. So good work, you have shaved 1 second off a skill and in return you never crit, you've got **** gear because HH90 doesn't have -channeling on it which means you're not using HH90 which means you're squishy as hell, and you've got -channeling belt and necklace... None of which are useful compared to their more common counterparts. You are using entirely crafted gear, and nobody uses crafted gear past 80 except heavy armor foxes/mages and heavy mages suck **** and foxes don't have to nuke things so they don't count.
Redball is something you never ever see except in rare HH situations and world bosses, and if you're in redball and you sutra only the first spell gets the sutra effect and then it bugs out and furyburst doesn't stack with red ball.
So there you go. No. Do not play your **** hypothetical **** in a guide, because it doesn't work. Stack your -channel all you like but everyone wears the same armor at level 90 and none of it has that.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Ok Pandora... youve converted me XP
Crit > -channel%... I guess that makes a LA more effective anyway.0 -
I get the impression that once and for all someone ought to just get to the point! Based on all I am reading so far Light Armor is simply the best choice for any wizard! Sure, Arcane/Pure may be good for PvE but even then LA still makes more sense in terms of survivability. Or am I missing something?0

Haha, you talk like you will actually get those shards. It's quite hard to get any of them, really.
... Anyways, crit is better to stack overall. If you can stack chan at the same time, with no crit loss, then great. But a crit is a kill for a pure mage(a pure mage can have 15% at 99 very easily), and in a sutra, it's a kill for a LA mage as well.As a Guild,

First, why would anyone sutra in a red bubble? I have never tried, but thanks for explaining that. That will prevent me from some bad juju on tt runs.
Second: you know that HH items (aka TT on this version) ... they come in 2 varieties... green and gold.
By some stroke of luck, the gold mats for both the TT90 gold mag sword and gold mag sleeves are cheap as hell (270 chips + 9m for all 4 gold mats needed), and that gives -12% channel with stats that aren't that bad.
Spending some quality time with the AH/cat shops every day while waiting for the daily timer can also allow you to pick up some nice rings/ornaments with -6% channel too. These suck after all, so who in their right mind would buy them? Why not pick them up on the cheap?
Add it all up and voila, your channeling is now -36% without using the now-outdated rank 4 armor. Since you are having a bit of difficulty understanding what shaving 1 second off of sandstorm can do, let me break it down for you.
With -36% Channel, sandstorm's total cast time is 3.1 seconds. (1.6+1.5)
With no channel gear, sandstorm's total cast time is 4.0 seconds. (2.5+1.5)
Guess which one over time does 22.5% more damage? sacrifice your LA sleeves for the oracle ones, toss your 2% crit rings for -6% channel ones and you lose out on 67pdef, 2%Pdmg res, 80hp, and 4-5% crit. All you get is a measly 22.5% more damage...
Edit: And I didn't make it clear, but you can still use any light armor shirt, pants, and boots, as well as any HP helm you want, so your gear by no means has to be crappy.
But yeah, thanks for "completely destroying my argument"... you sure showed me. b:sad b:surrender0 -

What you don't seem to realize is that it's not 22.5% more damage. The only time it would be 22.5% more damage is if pvp consisted of both targets sitting still and the mage constantly spamming a sandstorm that has no cooldown. Also, you aren't considering the bonus that the additional crit adds to your dps, lol. It's nowhere near 22.5% increase, it's actually about the same damage. The difference is you trade spike damage for sustained damage.
Furthermore, you're talking about "damage out time".
Yeah, as we all know, spike damage sucks in PWI and it's all about sustained low damage.
AFK rerolling fist warrior.
PVP is about spike damage, spikes come from crits. End of story. If you crit, your target essentially goes down. For mages who stack crit, you're looking at 12% crit rate easy. That means 1/9 of your spells kill the target - that's you doing your job.
If you have no chance to crit and you instead just spam sandstorm on cooldown, you do a great job of harassing the target, breaking their heiro and immediately dying.
Good work.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Yes, spike damage rocks in PvP. When you crit, you have the potential to bypass a HP charm entirely. No arguments from me.
But mages by definition do spike damage regardless of critting or not. By having long channel + cast times, it prevents wizards from doing sustained damage such as a fist BM attacking one and a half times per second or so... we attack hard once every 3 or so seconds.
So instead of 12% crit (1 out of 8-9), you only have an 8% (1 out of 12-13) chance to crit per attack. You make up for that reduced chance though by being able to cast 20%+ more spells in a given time period. The number of times you crit (aka the number of 1-shots you will do) will be pretty close to the same because you cast so much faster, and with the -channel time gear, you will do much more damage over that time period.0 -

Kristoph - Lost City wrote: »Do the 1% crit effects on demon Masteries stack or do they only work for that certain element?
Pretty sure they stack.
@Aedril
It doesn't really matter, because in any real pvp (except maybe TW if you're not a prime target) you'll be focused. I spend 80% of my time kiting BMs/WBs/Archers and about 20% actually casting spells. Meaning shaving .9 seconds off my total sandstorm time won't do a whole lot for me, because I'm not constantly attacking. Instead, a crit that drops one of the people I'm kiting will do a hell of a lot more than just ticking their hiero as they continue to chase me. You'd be stupid to leave a mage unchecked, because they can wreak hell."Amour is better suited to rainbow text, because he is a classy lady." - Nakhimov

pple i have some qns in mind:
so for necklace/belt: would u go for -channel or phy def or +crit option?
same for other equip?
is a full set -channeling not that useful even at 36%?
or getting phy def options and/or +crit options for equip is actually more feasible?

Kristoph - Lost City wrote: »Do the 1% crit effects on demon Masteries stack or do they only work for that certain element?
I would imagine they only work for each element. I'm not going to complain if they stack, but "+1% when using earth spells", for example, doesn't make it seem like it works for water and fire spells too.
.... And Mystic, 12% isn't easy, even for light mages. 12% means you have rings with 2% crit on them, and 2% crit rings aren't easy to come by, or to afford. It's easy to get 9%, and 10% at later levels... but getting a crit weapon and necklace in addition isn't much fun.
... to be perfectly honest, I prefer crit over chan because Wizards have sutra, and my guild can get potions that -100% your chan for 5 seconds. Don't need much more help in fast-casting.As a Guild,
