Hi,

Is there a way to play PWI without having to install ARC? Like a portable version or something. I don't have administrator rights in my laptop. Is there some way I can by pass that and play this?

You need Arc to update the PWI files each week but your question is about playing PWI without Arc.

Easiest way is to create a shortcut for elementclient.exe. When done, open the properties of this shortcut and go to Target. Here you see the location of elementclient.exe. Add the instruction startbypatcher.

Target would be like this now:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Perfect World Entertainment\PWI_en\element\elementclient.exe" startbypatcher

If you click on the shortcut PWI will start without Arc.

Only problem: it wouldn't solve the real problem. You could **** the admin password and give your account admin rights. :)

You can also download from Steam and just copy the folder. The .exe with the Steam version launches independently just like in the old days before Arc.
I keep a copy on my thumb drive for wherever.

On a side note, it's pretty easy to **** the admin password or bypass it entirely, on a Windows PC.

Well the thing with Steam is that I still have to install it xD which I cant. I tried googling for bypassing administrative restrictions but to no avail :(

Could google "recover administrator password" or "reset administrator password" to see many solutions. If you only want to see the password(s) on your laptop you could also try "o p h c r a c k" (<- remove spaces if you google it) to start your laptop and let the software recover all passwords. Then there is a possibility to make just another administrator account (again, Google is your friend if you need the info; just search for "make administrator account windows")

Lol, according to the PWI Terms of Service cracking your own laptop is allowed.... i think

I'm guessing by "my laptop" you really mean, WORK laptop. If it was YOUR laptop, you WOULD have admin rights, or would just format/recover in order to restore said admin "rights"!

Nonetheless, then what you'll want to do is just DL PW using either ARC or STEAM as previously mentioned, then copy the PWI game client directory over to somewhere you DO have permission on your work (cough your cough) laptop. Then you will be able to directly launch it and play by using the "startbypatcher" 'flag' as also previously mentioned.

Now on the bad side of things, every time there's an update to the client; you'd have to update on a PC where you do have "admin rights", then re-copy over to your work (cough your cough) laptop! BUT, you'll be able to play PW on this work laptop, which will be cool as hell right!? Oh and of course, I mean "your" laptop ("your work laptop") :D

Oh and if I am right, and it actually IS a work laptop - the LAST thing you want to do is run o p h c r a c k on it. Whoever does admin the machine WILL be able to tell you logged in as them/admin! That in and of itself would likely be MUCH more severe than installing/removing software that you're not supposed to! NO reason to lose your job over trying to get PW on there!

If the admin/IT is cool enough, just ask em to do it for you! You'd be surprised!

Source: I am an IT/admin and I've actually had employees that I support ask me to help with certain "small" things they're not generally able to do (such as installing a game!), and since travel is a HUGE part of work, I have had no problems doing it for those who have the balls to ask! Now, if I was looking through logs and found someone did that **** on their own without asking, I'd report them, and they'd likely lose their job!

Hmm. As funny as the latest responses are.... It appears that this thread died a few months ago.
