  • A couple thoughts. 'Adjusting your AC' involved getting better gear or stats or whatever, and as I recall that wasn't so easy to do unless your DM was in the habit of 'gimme' prizes for showing up to the game. The game isn't like original DnD and doesn't have the same rules... heck, DnD isn't like the original DnD anymore.…
  • OP, there are already daily, weekly, and monthly rewards for logging in and playing. If you haven't figured out where those are yet, then you should probably spend a little more time actually playing and learning where they are.
  • Thanks for all the tips, We ended up borrowing a (crappy, but workable) laptop for him to play on. Thanks @adinosii, I had forgotten it went 64-bit, the Vista is 32, so no workaround is going to fly here. As far as 'supported by Microsoft' goes, the day I rely on Microsoft to protect my computer against security threats is…
  • @nitocris83 , @"noworries#8859" , just wanted to first, say thanks for the pack offer, it's a very nice gesture for the players and the charities both! Second, to confirm what a number of others here have said: I bought 2, $10 packs to use on new accounts for my nephews. Both accounts got the Dragonborn supplies (which…
  • And a fighter before that. Sorry, I had been AFK for a while in the thread before posting and then some more time while typing. You may note those two posts where both less half an hour before mine was finished. That being said, @plasticbat, feel free to post your video of your sub-20K, non-Barbarian completing the…
  • The interesting thing to note here is that nobody under 22k is posting they succeeded, and everyone who succeeded (and mentioned their class), is a Barbarian. So basically, if you already have a bunch of Legendary items and an effectively maxed out Barbarian, you can play Hell Pit and pick up a few more Legendary items to…
  • Golden pantaloons are the very definition of fabulous!
  • Posted a comment, eaten by the edit monster. Is multiple years of this edit post/post disappears not enough to figure out a fix?
  • As others have said, when getting extreme lag in PE (I've waited 30 seconds and more just for a door to recognize I'm there so I can leave), switch to an instance of PE with fewer players. In other zones, and low-pop PE zones, I'm currently experiencing a bit more lag than typical, but not enough to interfere with playing.…
  • An excellent pack, Cryptic! As Sinneblom said, a well designed pack that offers something great for every account, especially during a Recruitment event. :) As is well known, I have many and valid criticisms of the way Cryptic handles some of the elements of Neverwinter and their marketing. And this pack alone isn't going…
  • Way back in the day, when Cryptic was still running City of Heroes, their servers were in CA, iirc. (They had pretty bad lag and disconnects then, also.) I believe their main offices are still in CA. As far as I know, when they shifted to Champions and STO, at some point the game servers were relocated to the east coast.…
  • Same issue with STO, they've got a tweet or something posted that they're aware of the problem and are looking at it. Since they seem to have this same problem every couple months on patch days, one wonders why they aren't aware of the issue before it happens and have a checklist in place to stop doing this multiple times…
  • As others have mentioned, it's not that meaningful where you put them, because the two points amount to a 1% bonus on one stat and a 0.5% on the other. If you hover over your stats on any of your other characters it should tell you what each stat actually improves and how much. I haven't played in a while so just going…
  • Yes they totally screwed with abilities. A couple mods ago I guess the goal was "we don't want some players doing 500 times more damage than other players" and also "we want people to be more focused on gear and companions than their character". So they did a "New Neverwinter - everyone is unique but also exactly the same"…
  • The Alienware site can be tricky to navigate in. There is just so much stuff tucked away in so many odd corners. In this case, I logged in, clicked the little icon on the top, right of centre, of the demon face icon. That brought up "My Rewards" page, where I claim todays reward. Then I X out of that screen and go into My…
  • I've been playing less since about Mod 14, and a lot less since Mod 16. Partially that is a natural 'take a break, play other games' thing that happens with any game from time to time. Mostly it's because the last few modules have made me feel that my characters aren't 'mine' anymore, they're Cryptics' gamepieces being…
  • It may not be a factor, but since the barbie is newly levelled to 80, would boons/campaigns be part of the difference?
  • OP may have missed it in the earlier posts, so just tossing in a reminder: You don't need 'best builds' or power boosts to level to 80 in Neverwinter. Levelling in Neverwinter is fairly fast and easy. You will hit 80 just doing daily invoking and a few quests along the way. If you run the all story quests and the zones…
  • Yep. In pretty much all MMOs, a 'vanity pet' (or any vanity item) is just a cosmetic/amusement effect with no actual game function. They follow you around, hop up and down whatever but don't actually do anything or attract aggro.
  • Some loose terminology in NW, you'll see a lot of things that were implemented one way by one team and a different way 2 years later by another. In most fantasy games a combat companion is called a 'pet' because they were generally creatures. Having humanoids/sapients be your combat companion is a more recent addition.…
  • It's fine to enjoy being top DPS until someone starts yelling "I want to be top DPS so nerf everything that beats me until I'm tops!" Sorry, but if someone is using a bad build and rotation (especially if they are so bad they're getting beat out by companions) then they'll never be top DPS no matter how much nerfing occurs.
  • "Magical fantasy worlds should work logically, assuming you focus on one 'logical' aspect and ignore all the rest." 'Real world' bags don't have have 24 slots in them that you can put any item of any size and weight in and not worry about it. 'Real world' bags don't fill up when you put X very tiny items in them. As for…
  • Agreed. All I'm seeing here is a couple players saying "I'm so bad at DPS that other people's companions beat me. Nerf them so I don't have to get better." If Xuna was unusually deadly in LOMM runs you'd be seeing run after run with 5 Xuna's out. He won't post ACT numbers because that will only show how bad his DPS is.
  • "My build and technique is so bad that I get out-DPS'd by a companion. Obviously, the solution is to nerf companions."
  • I've got characters that use Xuna, characters that use other combat companions, characters that use augments. The difference is not very noticeable for me (because not maxed out levels etc on any of them). Primary reason I use Xuna is because she's funny for starting fights with mobs I never even saw until she brings them…
  • Messing with queued content you waited to get into is pretty much the only thing for me. AFKs, people multi-boxing with chars on follow, various other shenanigans. I'm not too concerned about people queueing into content they can't really handle - that's more of an issue with Cryptic setting the entry requirements/scaling…
  • It's ridiculous to restrict the access of new players to at least a global help chat. All new players should be in the global help channel by default and older players could opt in or out of that channel at will. As for spam control, there are three separate issues of chat 'player abuse': Trolls, Harassment and Gold/RMT…
  • You've likely already done this, but just in case: Put 3 Bonding Runestones in your companion slots. Easiest way to get them is buy them on the Auction House. Rank 7, 8 or eve 9 Bonding Runestones can be found at reasonable prices if you check frequently. Higher than that can get expensive. As others have said, join a…
  • I am fine with having a gatekeeper requirement for running higher level randoms, although personally I don't think boons would do the trick. There is really nothing in most of the boon campaigns that teaches you what you need to know for running the tougher randoms. In The Secret World they used to have an actual…
  • Kinda agree with @sandukutupu here: If high IL players weren't entering low level dungeons to get the rewards, zooming through them and dashing to the end and then starting kick actions to remove the slowest player from the team, maybe some of those 'newer players' would have a chance to learn how to do dungeons rather…
