  • This does sound like an April Fools joke, to be honest. Are you planning on eventually adding a ridable version of every beloved D&D monster, whether it makes any sense for them to be ridable or not? Ridable Demilich? Ridable Mimic? Ridable Stirge? The possibilities are endless. And daft.
  • Neverwinter's model however is, like with all PW games. Starting with several different virtual currencies meant to obscure the value of ingame purchases from the player.
  • Thank you for the links. Shokrizade's articles are always thought-provoking and chillingly accurate. IMHO, It's time for a frank discussion in the industry on if it wants to be known for these kinds of monetization schemes. If the answer is yes, we need a second video game industry crash in the style of 1983, and all these…
  • "Nobody" is perhaps a bit too strong a word. Through normal MMO "churn", many people will just quit playing after getting bored, which effectively removes their companions from the market. And many play multiple characters and want to avoid the hassle of switching pets. New pets will get introduced. There will be impulse…
  • They don't. And they won't, if we as a playerbase don't make enough noise about it. Unfortunately it seems like this issue isn't that important to most people, so things are unlikely to change.
  • (Oldish post, but relevant, so still answering this...) The "monetization" people who lord over the design team at PWE probably realized that you'll make more money on the short term by making people re-buy their favorite companions for each character separately. Also, used pets on the AH would reduce the sales of new ones…
  • Yep. On Demand Patching is a good idea, but one that doesn't work in practice.
  • That sounds like a pretty low number even for a minimum. Though, I woudn't group tutorial writers in the same group with gold sellers. Even if you know how to do a dungeon, for example, you'll still have to jump through all the hoops ingame. And, you'd have to also count games journalists and columnists doing articles on…
  • Yeah, those Communist Businesses... What's actually happening is that the Chinese Specia Economic Zones have far less regulation on the conduct of companies than the U.S. has. So it's unregulated capitalism seeping into the States. Enjoy.
  • I pretty much agree. And, based on research, the vast majority of fatal combat wounds throughout the history were to the legs, as those are the part of your body that tends to stay the most in one place in a melee, and the most difficult to defend even if you have a shield. These are some of the armors the great armies of…
  • I support this. The more variety we have in character looks, the better. Fighter. Fighter. Fighter. Fighter. Funnily, as a counterpart to the existing hide armor for Guardian Fighters, there are plate boots for Rogues. If I remember correctly, those are called Hellfire Boots.
  • IIRC, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale used AD&D 2nd Edition, and NWN & Icewind Dale 2 used "2.5 Edition", with optional rules. Still, anything Forgotten Realms-related is still AD&D 2nd Edition to me... :p
  • Multiclassing. Also, bard.
  • There have been multiple threads on this issue, with no dev response so far. I'm sure the people at Cryptic understand that character customization is a big draw in their games, and wouldn't at all mind adding some more, but they aren't an independent studio, and are getting their orders from PW. I too am hoping for more…
  • I've been playing games since the mid-eighties, MMOs since the days of MUDs, and have been following the gaming press all that time. I have a pretty good understanding how things work in the industry, and I'm laying the blame for the game's business model completely on PWE. The quote is just a sad reminder of the Cryptic…
  • I guess it's time to post this again: I guess he thinks what they're doing now is okay, since these aren't in any way "micro"-transactions. Well, at least CO's getting some much-needed developer attention.
  • Agreed, rogues look more like jesters or bards right now. Maybe I'm just old fashioned when I associate the rogue class with AD&D-style thieves instead of the swashbuckler types Cryptic has gone with, but still, I'd like to see some less flashy outfit options.
  • Oh? That's strange. I've never seen it ingame even though I run the game on almost maxed settings. I guess I need to pay more attention.
  • The former. We already have eye-searing monstrosities in the game. You can already do pink+green(*shudder*), red+green, purple+green, pink+blue etc. with the existing colors. Mixing you own shades would actually make it possible to make less clashing color combinations.
  • I agree with the OP. If there's one thing Cryptic is known for, it's character customization in their games. That made me expect much better customization options in NW that what we ended up with. Also, the ability to mix dyes would be nice. Err... "bland" is the one thing that color combination definitely can't be called.…
  • An excellent post, and excellent link. It's just that we as a society have decided, that it's morally completely okay to deceive and manipulate people when you're selling something. And when you bring this up, people go "I'm not affected by marketing. If you don't want to buy, then don't!", as if they're invulnerable to…
  • I wasn't talking about a conspiracy. I was jokingly pointing out that if you claim clairvoyance for predicting the outcome, it might be too early to take the JREF Paranormal Challenge, since the outcome was fairly obvious from the first post by panderus. It's obvious from the other POV too. An analogy: Imagine you're…
  • Yeah... Someone makes a badly thought out and dismissive post. ---> People call him out on it. Don't call James Randi yet.
  • Nothing wrong with my keyboard. It works perfectly in any other game, most of which demand much faster reactions with keypresses. The issue for me is that if I press Shift after I use any attack with my guardian, I can't be sure that Block is up. Most of the time it isn't. This happens even if I haven't blocked at all for…
  • Whoa, that armor looks hilariously stupid. At least it looks just as stupid on both genders. The male version looks practically the same.
  • How about just adding more options to the game. There should be options for both stripperific and conservative wear. For both genders. I'm sure this has been said before, but: Cryptic has always had great character customization in their games. NW is a strange exception to this. Hopefully this will change sooner than later.
  • In the case of blocking, things just don't work. Yes, many people tend to have a toxic reaction to dev comments, but in this case it's likely that normally civil people would be ****ed off by the comments. The guy basically came in and claimed that everything was peachy before at least checking if they did or did not break…
