Actually, gallup polls use a 1000 people as a sample size, and they generally are accurate to about +-5% when compared to larger (10k +) sample groups, now, that being said, a proper method would be to email 1000 random users to ensure that you're getting a wide enough sample group, not just forum regulars

I would like to point out how absurdly easy it would be to launder through the AH with dummy accounts and some AH work, that's what I would do, and I know of many who have done exactly that.
