HR has potential, don't get me wrong but the powerful attacks require time to use unlike the TR. Give the HR a means to get that time in order to use them.
Here I'd agree with you but although HR has great range capability in design it's not truly a viable option. HR would be better taking the Whisperknife role with an increase in range. Say maybe 40-50ft as range focus with a singular long range skill, either a weak At-Will puller or a powerburst Encounter to knock down the…
Interesting volt, I never used IPTC on my TR while leveling from 0-60 so that makes me think it's either an elite or PvP rant. Also I didn't say it was perfect, only that it filled the hybrid role much better. Personally I find the range of the Whisperknife much to short for example but that doesn't mean I can't…
This one is simple to answer, to be unique. The trouble is that it's not unique and other games have done a much better job of creating hybrid range/melee classes and even Cryptic has done a better job at it with the TR Whisperknife.
With a 14.6 second cooldown you're getting what? 6, maybe 8 ranged attacks after your opener while fighting a boss? That's still not "hybrid", it's melee with a touch of range.
For those of you that continue to argue against the "archer" ranger by claiming HR is a hybrid, if you knew how to play an archer you'd also know that this is by no means a hybrid. I can more effectively and with less difficulty swap between ranged and melee attacks with a TR Whisperknife than I can with the HR.
No the only problem is NOT just lacking DPS, it lacks effective HYBRID use of its range abilities. Has anyone attempted to out distance Rimefire Wolf with just shifting in order to effectively use a ranged attack? Doesn't work even when using the entire pool of stamina. The only truely effective means to gain that type of…
Nobody is forcing me to play Neverwinter Online either but the class design IS forcing me to play the "hybrid" class in a way that isn't truely a hybrid.
Reading the feats crit increase pertains mostly to ranged attacks (admitted that doesn't have to mean outside of melee range) with 1 general crit increase and even 1 melee damage increase in the archery tree. The only other general damage increase is determined by the distance the HR is from his/her target. Ghostwalker -…
I'd accept only getting 75% of the potential out of the class by focusing solely on one aspect if I was still able to survive. As currently is that is not the case, nor is a valid primary range focus viable.
This is a big part of what my complaint is about, the balance between HR and any other of the classes in general doesn't exist not to mention the balance within the class itself between range and melee combat. HR HAS to play both range and melee (the only class requiring use of the TAB feat) but even when doing that the HR…
Thoughts on the HR... Not all to good currently. I'll refrain from harping on not being able to opt out of one style of combat or the other seeing there's a push at proving me wrong and it's designed to be a combo of both. Sorry but HR would be the only class demanding use of the TAB feat. Furthermore you cannot be serious…
I did one CTA Skirmish soon after the event started with only 1 other HR. I was focused on ranged attacks and ranked 4th in DPS and enemies killed. I forgot I opened the preview server and jumped right into the queue without respecing my HR so I was still rigged with long range single target damage, speak Marauder's…
voltomey I'd be happy with a means to more efficiently and more often break from melee range in order to effectively use actual RANGE attacks that don't toss needles but instead fires arrows. Shorten the Marauder's Escape cooldown time but then we'll hear all the PvPers moaning how OP the HR is because he's able to…
mio I can accept not being able to permanently remain in one stance or the other, although it's contrary to the other class TAB features. What I'm complaining about is the inability to focus on range attacks. The range/melee fighting style combo is much better solved with the Whisperknife path of the TR than the HR seeing…
A big problem with bringing ranged combat in a melee oriented game is people believe that 93' is a LONG range, it's merely 31 yards. Most archers can hit that in their sleep. If you want to continue with the low damage being dealt then increase the range. 100 yard kills among bowhunters is not unheard of. Before the major…
If that's the case warzog I see the HR as a fail. Range can currently be used for 3 shots at the start of an encounter and after using Marauder's Escape you can fire another 2 shots. That's about it for the encounter unless the ME CD clears before the end of combat in order to allow another 2 shots. The shorter range while…
FEEDBACK: GAMEPLAY Shifting, considering the HR is supposed to be using hit-and-run tactics and a primary style of attack can be chosen as a focus path, might instead be increased in range and cost instead of the shortened range and lowered cost. This might enable an archery focus to be more viable in order to more easily…
Sorry warzog but those are minor tweeks that I'm sure can easily be fixed before the HR goes live. It's more an issue how this class is to be played and how players perceive the class when looking at the skill trees. Again to compare to the TR, we have a stealth focused path and a DPS path with a combo of the two offered…
I haven't been skimming posts. I understand that the concept of the HR is to use BOTH, just as the concept of TR is to use stealth, but offering a singular style of play as a potential path brings the automatic assumtion that I can opt out of one style for the majority of the game. This is currently not the case, in fact…
Even if you pull out of the discussion, the difference in you're attempt at ratifying the mechanic with the rogues stealth is inaccurate. I CAN play the rogue in PvE WITHOUT stealth. I might not be as deadly as somebody that does play with stealth but I can easily survive without it. Currently I cannot survive without…
If you want a melee/range combo class with emphasis on both styles then play a Whisperknife. There you deal damage with your ranged attacks while within 20ft of your target and are still close enough to switch to melee quickly. The HR has it's focus for ranged attacks on distance, long distance.
Agreed. I cannot currently concentrate on one fighting style, I don't deal a lot of damage and with my damage dealing attacks I'm definately not relying on speed or mobility in order to perform hit-and-run tactics.
I can agree with you completely, most player's I know play melee rangers and actually in 3.5 the fighter class was the more potent archer. But "it seems to be designed to reward players who master both" is fully inaccurate, currently it punishes players who cannot/do not wish to master both.
My HR is level 53 right now on the final mote in the Chasm, from the sounds of the recent patch I won't be playing it until some power comes back to the class seeing that even with a cleric companion (which is usually all I need in almost any game I play) I won't be able to survive without altering my playstyle…
What's the point in playing a class without wanting to maximize it's potential? For fun. For flavor. I'm not a player looking to pawn everything and everyone I come across in 1-2 blows, I want to enjoy a few hours of entertainment.
xtra you make many valid points but even as a striker/utility build, right now the HR fails due to the lack of damage it deals. As for the TAB function in the build, it's a function to maximize a class potential and not a requirement in play, I can do just fine as a TR without ever using stealth in PvE.
Admitted my HR has mostly blue gear, all drops, of level 42 (boots are still low level) or greater on my level 53 (averages closer to level 48 gear) but I have no enchantments applied to any of the gear, hood, armor and bracers are green. I have a GS of 5,665.
The Eidolon's been a while, probably before the nerf patch but I just did the Rimefire Wolf wednesday with MAYBE 2 levels over requirement and only needed 3 attempts before succeeding. With my TR I needed more tries before eliminating the additional winterwolves accompanying it, the HR was able to pull them without…
