Dye Packs, and it's underused possibilties

There are many dyes packs in the games, and many colours that I want to plop down on outfits. The trouble is, the ones I really want are packed with dye combos I don't want.
The singular color dyes on the zen market are not varied enough to really get what you want either. Preferably, I want colors mixed from different packs together.

Thus I would like to see dyepacks be changed.

Instead of 3 colors plopped down in set order, each pack when opened produces the 3 bound singular dyes from the pack, so you can place them in any order, whenever you want. I know more of the dyes on the Zen market will become much more attractive for me to purchase if I had that choice.

Sidenote, a few of those dungeon dye packs on some items should make their way onto the zen market.

This would be great! I have often wished I could choose which color goes where (primary/secondary/accent) when using those. I'd would (still) love to see more single color options made available.
We could certainly use more customization choices, overall. On days when I just want something different to do, I run through the normal versions of dungeons and/or questing areas just to acquire possible transmutes. I guess since I'm not a min/max type player, fashion hunting is my end game. LOL :)

It makes no sense that the graphics in the game uses millions of colors yet we are limited to only a handful of single dye colors. There are more colors here on the forums than there are in the zen market.

    NEED MORE COLORS!!! :p

Whilst I can agree with this totally from a player standpoint conversely the thought of the alteration to the coding needed makes my inner former dev run away. It's possible, just tedious it seems to me.

If they gave you that kind of control over the application of a dye pack, they'd also jack the price up to that of dye bottles x3 (and the more expensive ones at that), because that's effectively what you'd be buying.

Expanding the palette available to buy as dye bottles is probably a better, and simpler option.

Not really need to jack the prices, since the color selection of the Dye Packs are generally different than the palette of colors in the individual dyes.

I believe that they would make more money, as people would buy a Dye Pack to add the colors from them to the Primary/Secondary/Accent as they want, and then buy the individual dye color packs (Red, Pink, Blue, Purple, Black, Green) from the Zen Market/AH that they want for the others.

I could see them add a caveat with the 3 dye packs. All three colors of a pack must be used, just in different orders. You can always dye over a color you don't want with the Zen/AH purchased base colors.

Heck, they could even have a "Not use" option for the dyes on the Primary/Secondary/Tertiary selection, and you could "waste " up to two colors from a Dye Set. This would allow the possibility of adding one or two from another Dye Pack (Again wasting what is not used.). Heck, it would make it possible to use three Dye Packs for a single piece of equipment (Wasting 6 colors in the process.)

I have proposed that we be able to simply cycle the order in which the colors from the dye packs are applied. This, at the very least, would increase the appearance options that dye packs could offer six-fold.

How did u do it? I coded such an engine myself a couple of years ago and my solution was to use xxRRGGBB colors on every texture pixel. xx was a kind of flags/alpha combination with 5 bit alpha, 2 bit reflection intensity and the final bit was for "dyable" which then got the RRGGBB multiplied with a piece-given dye color. I just had one dye-color per piece. Should I do it again, I'd use 7-bit for each subpixel and use the 3 free bits as additional flags for 3 dyes per piece (2bit) and 2 for - whatever;). How did you do it?

BTW, why not just sell dyes that let you choose a RRGGBB yourself? is your kind of dying some index-bound value of the piece or do you set colors directly like I did?

I would like to see a Bottle of White Dye added for sale. I would even be willing to pay the same price as for the bottles of Black Dye (though wouldn't necessarily be thrilled).

I like the way a lot of the dye packs look though and I like having to only apply it once, rather than 3 times and possibly messing it up; it's convenient. But yeah more options is always better and yeah the colors they have in the zen market are very limited. Just add single color purchase options for absolutely all of the dye colors rather than messing with the way the packs work.
