As in every mmorpg I always pick the tank role, I know it is the hardest and slowest class to make progression with, but after a week I hit 60, I feel really useless in all of the game modes.
At tiamat fight, I can not deal significant dmg, since I am a tank, but it is fine, I can grant utility by using Knights valor and Into the fray, also I can distract the adds from the clerics easily.
Most the time ppl ask me to turn off knighs valor, because it is lagging the entire raid group, or I dont get group to grant them extra dmg from Into the fray, which makes me only useful in the guarding phase.
But the game is made a way, that there is no tank/healer needed at all for raids and that have upsides too.
In pvp:
Fist:
I have exactly 50% damage resist and 25% pvp def from tenacity, I have 40k HP, but even if theese stats looks good to me I am a paper towel, beacuse some guy just hit over 50k crits into me, I mean what is the dmg formula, because then the real paper classes like mages should take 200k crits lol.
+ this 50% healing reduce is really nerfing my regen
Second:
I have long cooldowns, it is fine, because I can provide fine crowd control, even in aoe.
BUT most class have immune feature vs crowd controls and others are just dodging everything or run away with the speed of light when they are about to die... ===> I have cc, but I dont have cc.
But then I have only the guard ability which is my only ability to resist cc (and that useless daily), but once i try to fight back with some encounter ability, i get locked into some daze or force choke, which all still could be applied from behind, and i believe it is not hard to roll/teleport behind a slow moving thing, but this is mostly a problem in more vs 1 fights, where dodgning is significantly better than guard, since even if you roll into a Crushing surge, you will dodge it, because you are moving, makes no sense, just like that i can move durng daze, but can't do anything.
Done with the complaining, what should I do to do better?
I believe I have to do the math, how does armorpen work? (calculated with my damage resist or with my def values? if resist, then there is no point going much over than 4k def because it's scaling goes down adter that amount, if the def then it would be good for me to reack at least 6k)
The tank role in Neverwinter is not defined very clearly. Of course, in PVP, noone needs a tank. What does it help if the opponent needs 3s longer to kill you if you can't kill him at all. The shift ability of other classes sometimes adds more survivability than the guard (which is ridiculous imo). Don't spam your encounters mindlessly. You have to learn when an opponent is using his shift ability. But when you get behind it, guard is by far the best shift-skill (just try to fight a good GF).
Villain's Menace is my favourite skill, in PVP and PVE
There are many threads about ArPen, just google it.
those 50k crits you mentioned are from rogues they ignore all defenses therefore hit you as hard as any squishy target, there are plenty of post about it people are bombarding the board for a nerf.
I was thinking about using 4/4 draconic templar instead of profound since tenacity looks like doing nothing, any opinion about it?
I maent frontline surge not crushing surge sry.
I really understand your complains. An actual tank doesn't really excel in this game.
For PvE the game is heavily tilted towards offensive stats. Therefore you can spec
as a Conqueror and play for PvE DPS -> mentioned above. Personally I think the goal
of doing PvE is to get the best cleartime, I really advise you to go with a Buffing build.
Similar to what your doing know, I think you can figure something on your own or search
in the forums. Only stacking defensive stats doesn't do anything in this game.
Considering PvP, if you really want to play PvP on a high level and compete against real
PvP players you have to roll and build your character for PvP. GF's strength lays in his
CC, his Guard and the ability to strike fast and hard when the enemy is vunerable. PvP GF can
excel well with skill, its not a brain-dead class that is limited in gameplay, so im sure you can
enjoy it.
I have complain too. today i was doing skirmish, "shores of turen" and i got hit from golem 67K what is funny i had my guard on and i have 51% dmg resist. 40k life. and it wasn't first time like that, i got hit very often like 22k when i still have guard on. it doesn't happen anywhere else only in this skirmish. To be honest tank shouldn't be getting this kind of dmg with his protection, even in Tiamat I dont get hit so hard from dragon heads like in SoT from normal mobs. I can re-spec it to get 5% more resist and 10 k more life but if i got hit 67k what does it help?
AS for above crit is best stat for GF, get vorpal and crit up to 30 and you'll move 3 times faster in PvE as for PvP have o clue.
For the artefact, which would be the best for pvp?
I was thinking of using Waters of Elahzad, Blood Crystal Raven Skull, and Sigil of the Scourge.
That would bel 800 regen, 900 guard, 700 recovery, 350 power, def, deflection if they are all legendary.
Btw I'm an iron vanguard, and i prefer cleave(faster than crushing surge) and threathening rush(gapcloser and temporary mark) as my at-will powers.
Which artefact weapon should I get? The one that grants bonus for cleave looks good, but if u suggest me to use tide of iron instead of the rush, then maybe the one that grants bonus to tide of iron would be better.

Golems have a number of different attacks. One of them looks like GWF IBS. It takes more than 2.5 seconds to cast that, if you can't dodge that you simply suck. The second attack is a fist downwards strike its aoe and displayed with a red circle, this one shouldnt oneshot you ever. His third attack is like the second attack but not aoe and just a normal melee attack, it does far inferior damage and shouldnt hit for more than 5k even if you soaked up some debuffs.
If you get hit for these huge amounts you should try to record this and either investigate what your doing wrong or if its a bug. Ive seen far more squishy people run into melee range of golems (CWs because they were stupid) and they didnt die from either of those attacks.
THe only time i saw 50k+ hits in SoT was on preview when the Green Dragon Wing was bugged. Damage like this shouldnt occour in SoT only in the epic version im sure on that one.
The most deadly thing in Epic SoT btw is the boss and his Fireburst attack it has a very low cast time and no red area displayed. However i saw 14k GFs tanking that with shield like it was a kitty kat. On my GWF with 40% DR + Full unstoppable bar I get oneshot from this attack. Luckily the boss has a very simple spell rotation so you can predict its and move accordingly.
Okay. I'd like to mention btw that going full offensive as GF can be fun, however if you wanna deal lots of damage CW/SW are the kings of PvE as of Module 5. Thats why I think GF should focus on what he can do best - nobody creates a GWF and focuses on Healing either (apart from the fact that it doesnt work ^^). Therefore it should be more of a specification. Personally I think a build focused on Frontlining: Grabbing inital aggro, tanking inital hits, Marking all enemies for the damage bonus
and Buffing your party members is the best build. This doesnt means you can get some crit and run a vorpal. However I think GF offers so much utility with KV you make your whole party nearly invincible - Into the Fray and Mark boost damage through the roof. Let the DPS classes kill the small stuff. Who is faster a SW with TT and Deadtheft or a GF trying to cut down Zombies with his Sword?
I think its best for GF to just soak damage and keep the enemies of your party, this is the maximum of "tanking" you can do in NW. Your damage dealing should be focused on the guys that dont die from your parties AoE instantly: Brutes, Elites and Bosses.

Crit and Crit Severity doesnt affect your movment speed in any way, please explain!
Faster in terms of mob clearing speed.
