What will you do for RPs in Module 6?

edited December 2014 in General Discussion (PC)
For refinement of Module 4 and 5 artifact equipment, many players were at least able to stock enough cheap unbound RPs to to achieve current best in slot. But many players were not able to stock and many of these have simply given up on ever achieving orange best in slot.

In the future, the great majority of players will not have unbound RP stock. This is a poll to assess core player base response the hypothetical (but probable) scenario of a future Module 6 launch. What will you do if and when...
  • Module 6 introduces new best-in-slot artifact equipment and set bonuses
  • You need another 10 million+ refinement points for new best in slot
  • The RP situation remains as it is now (very slow to farm)
  • A stack of Peridot on the AH costs 100k+++ AD

What will you most likely do then?

Background/Context:
Since the initiation of all enchants and refining stones coming from Dragon Hoard and Fey Blessing enchants becoming bound a few weeks ago, the price of refinement on the AH is of course rising and stocks of unbound RP stock is slowly drying up. The amount of refinement needed to reach orange best-in-slot versus the rate of farming and price of RP is incredibly discouraging and of great concern to the player community at large, particularly regarding the future of the game should things remain as they are now.

    Quit

Though, if new gear is the only new content, there's no reason to stick around anyway. (meaning it would take a more frequent new dungeon introductions, which I doubt will happen. I guess I'll grow tired of the same game mechanics eventually anyway, though.).

I think Cryptic would do a mistake if they load more artifact enabled gear slots into game. *All* slots in game should not be artifact. Since farming to max out those 7 artifact slots we have now will take so much time, we have enough artifacts to last us a *long* time.

My guess is mod 6 will be
    * 2 more levels added to cap(2 levels is enough to make new gear but won't invalidate current level 60 content)
    * a new batch of dungeons with associated gear upgrades for level 62 since current dungeons are sort of useless now

And probably another big raid thrown in for fun.

If Neverwinter is still fun to play, no new MMORPG exists that I could switch to or new content isn't gear gated then - stick with what I have. I'm stopping at epic currently anyway so I'll never technically get to BiS.

Remember too that there's plenty of people that'll get bored if there isn't anything new and 'better' released periodically. At the forum level you pretty much only ever hear from the side that's unhappy.

I have yet to get a single piece of artifact equipment, and frankly, I still enjoy the game. I play it in smaller bite-sized chunks now, instead of binge-playing like I used to, however. I feel that, if the devs want artifact equipment to become more commonplace, that they are going to have to provide some more alternatives to how to get RPs; They could add some refinement items to the various seal vendors, (a way to reinvigorate running dungeons), to regular gold-based vendors, (make gold useful at high levels), and integrate them into other tasks - like maybe change up some of the various 60+ quest rewards to include refinement items - make running those campaign dailies give refinement items once you've completed the campaign and/or add refinement items to the campaign-currency stores.

    Skyforge?

Maybe business will start and I will be busy working (best option).

Or Mod 6 is awesome and amazing - but considering how Mod 5 is going, i am not optimistic.

I don't hardcore farm. Farming makes it boring. Just loot skill nodes, and pick up dungeon loot as you go. When you start stressing over this as if it's a job it ceases to be a game for fun.

I'll eventually have legendary artifacts, a complete collection of ___, or all rank 10 enchants. Maybe even a GS of 18k+? Eventually. No need to stress or panic.

Talking about wealth, I can say that I'm a very good position in-game but that doesn't mean I'm really enjoying the game, I see that most of friends are complaining about how hard is to get RP, I could say "yeah that doesn't affect me because I have tons of RP saved" but that would be a huge lie, what's the point in playing in an empty game? new players doesn't have an idea about how hard is to going to be for them trying to be in the same lvl than the old players and once they realize how stupid and difficult is to upgrade their gear, well, they will leave. The whole RP thing needs a rework, something simple like: you can salvage epic gear either for RAD or RP, if an item is worth 4.000 RAD you can get 4000/500 = 8 peridots, so you can keep farming t1/t2 whatever you want for these epics items, or you can also run dungeons and in the final chest there's a chance to get like up to 20k RP as follows: % to get 2 opal or just 1, % to get 1-4 Sapphire, lower tier gives you up to 10k like % chance to get from 2 to 6 Aquamarine, 4 to 10 peridots, etc. Chances or amount of stones are increased during DD time, everything BoP ofc.

One interesting aspect of all the RP becoming very cheap because of rampant botting and then very expensive is that the already rich players - and I mean ones who were able to buy up and stock 100 million+ points in unbound refinement stones - are poised to become filthy unbelievably rich.

So basically this will make for an aristocratic 1% elite upper ruling class or some sort with 1000 million+ AD on hand who can control AH markets at their whim and will be few in game to consistently have best in slot. Art imitates life? :D

probably a bit early to speculate, but i'm sure the devs know something has got to change, to make gearing up to anywhere near BiS attainable for people that have other things in their lives beside neverwinter.... I don't believe it is their intention to go in a p2w direction, but the so called anti botting measures like binding RP, certainly makes it appear so.

The changes that are made in the near future, and indeed mod 6, whenever it arrives, will be the deciding factor, as to wether, I keep on playing the game I love, and have invested a LOT of time into, or take it on the chin and move on because I don't have the time or the patience to grind out the RP for artefact equipment

I wish I could have voted for 1 and 3: slowly farming and making do with "obsolete BIS".

I like to play multiple characters, and I have resigned myself that I can't kit them all out in BiS; in fact, I can't get any of them to BiS in any speedy manner. So I have chosen a level of progression that I am fine with, and I'm not going to worry about the lack of orange in my gear.

For me, that means all my active characters have 3 epic artifacts. Some have epic artifact belts, some will stop at the new Jewelcrafting personalized belts. Same with cloaks. My most-played two alts have epic artifact weapons, and will shortly both have artifact offhands to match. Moving forward my priorities will be to get those offhands to epic, then slowly get artifact weapons - and refine them to epic - on my second-tier characters.

Epic artifact gear is better than almost any T2 or T2.5, so just by getting to epic I am doing well. I don't compete in pvp so I don't have to compare myself to the best of the best -- but getting artifact gear to epic and getting the new profession jewelry and upgrading rank 7 enchantments to rank 8s gives me enough progression to increase my enjoyment and satisfaction with my characters.

The problem with these forums is the attitude of Orange or Useless, Perfect or Useless, rank 10 or Useless. There is a sweet spot between a fresh 60 in all blues and 22k GS in all orange -- and I've figured out that sweet spot that I can reach by farming on my own, and I feel fine with that.

As someone with a 20k + CW and BIS everything (once i can log in and craft my rings), i think it's less than 1%. I think people controlling the markets now are more like... .01% or .001%.

Even other players i know in very high-end guilds have AMAZING gear but don't actually have huge amounts of AD.

There are a few people out there who do have huge amounts of AD. They control the prices and markets, but what good is that AD? what will they buy?

    IDK.

I have ok gear and enough unbound RP to make more ok gear for my stable of characters, as they acquire their artifact weapons one by one.

Like Chem says, I could probably make some decent AD by selling my saved RP, but then what would I buy with that? I'd be crippling my progression rather than helping it. It's not exactly feasible for me to buy more, and RP is the path to gear progression in the current meta.

I'd be an idiot to sell my RP in order to fund a... I don't even know... companion upgrade or something else I'm too cheap to buy, I guess.

I really like what darkstarcrash had to say (attitude and approach) a few posts up as well. Above all else this is a game to best be enjoyed in a leisurely and relaxed manner. Be content with not having the absolute best available gear right away, or maybe ever. Patience has saved me tons of AD already.

Of course $500+ in Zen bought refinement is absurd for a legendary artifact piece, so don't go that route. On side note, I find it odd and interesting that the only vote for "Purchase Zen RP" just happened to be the very first vote cast... hmm. No voting allowed by employees!

They always say that next module is gonna be big. Frankly, I've all but given up on this game. The only thing that makes me pop in daily and invoke or do a few dailies when I have a bit more free time is the combat which is still fun. They better bring something more than just a boring grind and new useless gear with module 6, otherwise what's the point of playing. More gear? More artifacts? What for? The content is not fun. There are no interesting things being introduced. The fight with Tiamat is ok, the rest of module 4 and 5 are a disaster. I have no hopes for mod 6 regarding RP, or anything. Even if module 6 is gonna be good it might be too late, for me at least.

This. Several guildies became frustrated with NW back in Modules 3 and 4. I urged patience noting modules 4 and 5 were already in development and likely couldn't be drastically changed. I gave Module 6 as a reasonable deadline. Lessons learned in module 3 should appear in mod 6.

Mod 6 is D-Day. We'll see what happens....

Eh, all this doom and gloom over RP. It's just RP. Is the difference between a level 40 offhand and a level 50 offhand really that big of a deal? People make it seem that RP is absolutely positively central to the game. Of course RP is important. But IMO it's not so OVERWHELMINGLY important that it's worth quitting the game over if I can't get 7xLegendaries before the next module arrives.

There isn't any reward, as far as I can tell, for having the top gear score on the server.

there is a big difference to someone in purple vs someone in orange gear. At least in pvp.

These topics are not really about the RP or the inability of the old player-base to have 7 legendaries, because i know a lot of ppl who complained about it and already have it.

The problem which these kind of topics try to point out is that atm, the only progress you can make is grinding out boons and leveling up your artifacts. The first one is a problem too, but even a new player will eventually have them, but legendaries is a diff problem since it requires tons of RP which a new player will never have unless (s)he dishes out thousands of dollars. How long do you think a new player will stay once (s)he realizes that to get BiS gear (s)he needs to pay some serious amount on RL money or play for years and by the time (s)he'll have enough AD to get it it's already 10 modules old.

The current RP prices wouldn't be a problem if we could still make the same amount of AD as a couple of modules ago. Back then even a newbie could make on average 100k+/day playing a 2-3 of hours a day, by farming DK, T2, etc. Now, pretty much everyone lives from professions, trading, etc. Playing the game nets you the least amount of AD/day. With 50k AD/day, which requires on average more than 2-3 hours of farming HEs/dungeons a day, you need 3+ years to get 7 legendaries on 1 toon, that's 12 modules.

Honestly, if something doesn't change? I'll leave.

The BtA RP move was the worst thing they've done yet, even more so than Coalgate and letting the 'Lucky' Nightmare 'winners' keep them.

That one single move destroyed all hope of progression for 99% of the server.

I don't have a single character anymore who has more than 300k AD. You simply cannot make it anymore except by playing the AH, and in order to play the AH you need to already be rich to afford the items you're flipping. T2s are worthless. T1s are even more worthless. Artifact belts are worthless. Mod 4 boon books are sort of OK, but the drop rate is so bad that not a single one of my characters has gotten them.

I have three mains I actually play. To be honest? This has to drop to one. I simply cannot keep up. I can't even keep up on the one I use the most. None of them have artifact cloak. Only one has artifact OH. All three have belt/mainhand, but two of those have them at blue. My CW doesn't even actually use her artifact orb - Switching off of my Fallen Dragon orb would lose too much Lifesteal that I currently cannot afford to make up elsewhere, so this is a non-starter at the moment.

I can't keep three characters competitive. I used to be able to have more at a decent level, but this game has become more and more alt-unfriendly. Back in Mod 2 my TR, my DC, my CW, my GWF all saw use. They had the 12-13k GS that was good at the time. Coals were still affordable so weapon/armor enchants were a possibility.

Then came Mod 3 and Coalgate. Suddenly, there was 0 supply of unbound coals other than the ones from the zen store. Just like that, weapon/armor enchants for alts were much less a doable thing. Lessers are still less than the cost of a coal, but only Lesser Soulforged really gets you much of anywhere. Good luck making the AD for a P.Vorp.

Mod 3 itself didn't help. The dailies were even more grindy and unpleasant than before. Mod 2's quick dailies were easy to do on multiple characters and fixed the miserable grind of Sharandar, Shadowmantle learning from the lessons of Fury of the Feywild. But Mod 3... Oof.

Mod 4 made the situation worse. ToD dailies were an absolute miserable grind, with required instances that lower GS examples of some classes could not complete. And now artifact equipment was a thing, and a thing that was even more alt-unfriendly than the dailies. Getting it was a pain and even once you got it, in many cases it wasn't better than your previous weapon set until you got it to purple.

Now, in Mod 4, there was still light at the end of this tunnel of miserable grinding. Dragon Hoard enchantments and, let's be honest here, bots. The cooldown hadn't been nerfed yet in foundries so you could even go farm RP yourself watching Netflix or something. But farmed RP on the AH was plentiful and cheap. You still couldn't afford that much if you weren't rich, but even the relatively poor players like me could get enough to get a single arti equip piece to legendary. Two if you waited for a double RP weekend.

Then came BoA RP. Now, RP is ridiculously slow and difficult to get. You can't even farm it yourself anymore; many farming foundries were deleted and even what wasn't, now there's that longer ICD. The game is no longer fun, but a punishment. Every feasible way except throwing insulting amounts of cash at PWE to get the amounts of RP required to advance your character has been removed.

I will never get the OH my TR is using now to legendary. I will probably eventually get a cloak via Tiamat runs, but that too will never get to legendary.

I realize that yes, Legendary is supposed to be difficult, but at the moment it is not difficult. It is utterly unfeasible unless you were already rich and already stockpiled huge amounts of RP.

The amount of RP needed for EVERYTHING needs to be drastically reduced, and the amount of RP it's possible to get needs to be increased.

The short-sighted actions taken to combat the bots that are, frankly, the only thing keeping most of the player base able to advance and thus engage with the game are only hurting legitimate players.

I log in, I do a dragon zerg, I run Tiamat, maybe I do a daily or two on my HR who doesn't have everything yet. I make no AD outside of salvage and Leadership because there simply is no income to be had anymore except by already being rich and playing the AH. Farm T2s? For what, the salvage value? eLOL? Good luck getting a party, and that was never profitable anyway. CN? Still not profitable.

Every module has destroyed the economy and the ability of non-rich players to advance even more.

Mod 5 has brought yet more things to refine with our already impossibly tight RP budget, massively slowed servers, and a plethora of bugs that at this point simply make the game miserable to play.

To be honest, at this rate I'm not sure I even have any faith there's going to be a Mod 6, let alone that I'll still be here to play it. I never actually did get around to finishing Skyrim and I have a bunch of other games in my Steam library waiting to be played, and for my PS3...

Yeah. Something needs to be done by Cryptic, and it needs to be done fast.
