[Chat Bug] Perpetually "Ignoring Everyone"

I cannot see any chat happening in game from anyone that is NOT on my friend's list or who I am not currently in a party with.

This is affecting me in every chat channel in game: Zone, Say, Tells, Custom Channels, Trade, LFG, and so on.

I found that the only people that can send me tells are those who are on my friends list or I am in a party with. As well, these are the only people I can see chat from in Zone, Say, Tells, Custom Channels, Trade, LFG, and so on.

Whenever anyone not on my friends list tries to /tell me, they get an error saying that I am ignoring them. My ignore list is empty. However, players can seemingly send me in-game mails just fine.

In my Social Privacy settings, all my characters are set to either Looking for Party and Visible to All or Looking for Party+Auto Teaming and Visible to All.

To the Community: If you've tried to contact me in game and it says I am ignoring you, I am sorry about that but I assure you: The only people I ignore are AD/Gold Spammers and then I wipe my list clean once a week or so. Please either contact me on the forums via PM or try sending me an in-game mail. I'll accept a friend invite if I recognize the @handle sending the request. If I decline, buzz me on the forums via PM or send me an in-game mail.

On the bright side... I see no more AD/Gold Spam.

That's interesting. I once ran into an issue where I was trying to PM a prospective guild applicant and was informed he was ignoring me (though he was not, since we'd never before interacted), but I thought it was indicating his privacy settings were turned all the way up and assumed the only auto-message to say your tell didn't go through was the "ignore" one.

Reminds me of the sporadic issue where it looks like chat is offline and your friendlist is blank, which has always cleared up by itself. Let's hope this does too.

This has been persistent for at least a week and now that I think about it, probably longer because I have been leveling up characters on my alternate account lately and remember thinking "wow it's quiet right now" for a few weeks now when I'd hop on my main account do my prayers and professions. Then when I'd switch back I'd think, "ah, it picked up" because I once again saw people chatting away.

Then I've had some strange mentions where someone had said they couldn't contact me and weird things like that but since I was still able to chat in /tells with my friends-list folk and in /party, I never though anything of it... 'Till now, when I finally realized something was wrong with some help from some awesome folks in Legit.

I've seen this happening at random for quite a long time. back in mod 3 is when I first encountered it.
I was reading someone's character bio. And I was trying to whisper them informing them I liked it, and it turned out they were ignoring me, but they actually wasnt, I sent them mail about it instead and they hadnt had me on ignore.

I've ran into this repeated scenario about 4 more times from then til now.

Yeah, tried all the chat commands that deal with chat as well as the whitelist commands too.

And now... all of a sudden, after a few character hops for professions, chat started scrolling again!

Was able to get a ton of tells in game just to make sure (Thanks Legit!),

So weird! If the devs found something and fixed it, thank you!

I have been unable to see chat since beta (wasn't really important till now).I contacted support and we tried several things to fix it, but nothing has worked. Thier final suggestion to me was posting a bug report here. I decided to check for anyone else who is having this issue first. If yours fixed itself, doesn't seem to be the answer I need. However any suggestions you have would be helpful.

As far as I saw, neverwinter uses the xmpp protocol to chat and the game client chat is actually 'independent' chat client build in that connects to somewhat independent chat server.
If you don't receive any chat at all, perhaps you have something blocking the protocol or the ports.

perhaps try opening telnet (or anything else that can show if the connection can be opened) connection to "CrypticSpace.com" on port 5222.

And/or try http://www.jabber.org/ to see if the protocol allowed for you or blocked.

Thanks Micky, but did you miss the part where the support people and I tried several things to fix it. As to "any chat at all" The thread clearly says that we were unable to see world chat that wasn't from friends or party members. But thank you very much for your response.

I didn't miss it. I wasn't sure if the "I have been unable to see chat since beta" is the same problem exactly or something looks similar, and that's why I underlined the all chat part. Also couldn't know what the support and you did. Sorry couldn't be more helpful ..

Since before the 15th(when I first reported it), i have had trouble with chat in NW , then in STO, CO seems ok.
The last couple of days, when I have logged in, I have noticed something strange.
NO Zone chat in Protectors Enclave, usually within a few seconds you have the usual gold sellers ads and the usual zone arguments..

Zero, nothing at all.
I checked if there were people on,- yes up to 75 instances.
Checked my chat settings- yes Zone is ticked as active.
Wrote in zone- works but no response.
checked all 3 games.
IN NW-
zone, looking for group, nw legit community- not registering
COX, Trade(from CO) working,
IN STO-
Zone, looking for group - not working. Trade despite being on my list , won't even go to the chat tab.
NW legit-working
COX- working
IN CO-
Trade, zone, cox, nw legit- all working

people have said when they try to Private message me, they get "This player has you on ignore", which since some of these people are on my friends list, is unlikely.
So it looks likes the PM bug which hits Champions people at random, has expanded to now put everyone on ignore so you hear nothing in certain channels .

The PM bug, tells anyone trying to use a PM or mail to that person that they are on ignore, when they aren't.
Someone managed to mail me in NW with the message that they saw my comment on NW legit but got told I had them on ignore. So it seems to be Zone, LFG and a custom channel which are being affected.

I've merged your post here. As you see, I had the same issue and after communicating with Support, it seemed to "resolve itself." I don't know if they eventually found the issue or not but it mysteriously resolved itself for me after some character hopping one day.

You really should file a Support ticket (not as a bug report) and link to your post here. The Number on the top right of your post is a direct link to your post. Include that in your Support Ticket.

I sympathise with you, and anyone with this issue, for I know first hand what this bug like. Good luck!

I do character hopping each day. for invoking
amendment:
CO-Zone NOT working(checked on the wrong acct) but I can see people on my friends list post in zone
NW legit has started showing, at least partly. I checked those people aren't on my freinds list.

SO since the 15th when I noticed, still no zone in any games on this acct. My other 2 accts, no problems.

I have filed a support ticket. The secon part of the description is what I sent in the response after checking a few things.

The response was.
WE can't do anything about it here, it seems to be a new bug, please report as bug ingame and on forums.

What it actually looks like, as I posted, is an expanded version of the PM bug, CO has had for several years, which hits random people.

have you tried setting and unsetting the chat whitelist option in Social > Privacy Settings?

I did some googling and people in the past seem to have found that fixed issues with zone chat not being visible.

I turned whitelist chat on then off, and about 15minutes later came back to find trade and zone back
it's fixed it in NW and CO, trying to find anyone in STO to check zone

I had this happen again to me last night. Same thing as I described in my OP. I could only see chat by players on my friend's list or in my party. However, I tried the suggestion posted here and it worked.

Detailed Description of Work-a-Round that Worked for Me:
I opened my Social Menu ( O by default ), pressed Preferences on the bottom right, and then marked myself as Invisible to All and then pressed OK. I then pressed Preferences again and then set myself Visible to All. After sitting at the bank for 00.13.23 (13 minutes 23 seconds - yeah I was timing it with my iPod), all of a sudden I started seeing chat scrolling again!

Update: It's happened 2 times again since my last posting and now, it won't clear no matter what I try. Arg.

Update 2: It cleared again the 2nd time but 20 minutes later (approx), it happened a third time and I wasn't able to get it to clear with the workaround I posted above that worked before. After waiting about 1.5 hours, it still wasn't working when I logged off.
