Great Weapon Fighter Class Advocate - Nomination Thread

Greetings Great Weapon Fighters!

We want to hear what you have to say about your class!

If chosen as a class advocate, you'll be responsible for compiling the feedback of your fellow players about your class. Each week, you'll submit feedback in the form of a bullet-point list to me via forum PM. I'll then take that list (and the lists from the other classes) and forward them to our devs.

How do you become a class advocate?

You can start by stating your interest in this thread.

After that,
send me a PM answering these questions:

-Why do you want to be a class advocate?
-Why do you like this class?
-How long have you been playing Neverwinter?
-Do you play any other MMOs? (Don't worry, we won't get jealous ;)) If so, what class do you play?
-Do you play D&D? If so, what class(es) do you like to play?
-In what direction do you want to see this class go?

Once I've selected a candidate, this candidate will remain "in-office" until the next module's launch. For example, the candidate I choose now will remain until Module 5's launch (whenever that may be).

Please remember: Private Message Akromatik with your Answers to his Questions, as well as any Concerns or Questions one may have. Do NOT post nominations or comments about others in this thread. If you have a concern about someone who has nominated them-self, PM Akromatik or any of the Community Team.

This thread is not for general discussions, it is not for bashing, and it is not for PvP Smack Talk.
This is a Nominations thread, not a Voting Thread or Soap Box.

Furthermore, if one cannot follow our Rules of Conduct, they most certainly won't be an Advocate. Think before you post folks and remember our first Rule: Show Respect At All Times!

About the Role of an Advocate:
Advocates won't be chosen to represent their opinions. But instead are to act as intermediaries for the Community as a whole on specific topics and areas, whether or not they agree with such or not. They will have checks and balances to make sure that they are being unbiased in their relay of the Community's Ideas, Opinions, and Suggestions.

Furthermore, Advocates won't be able to "make things happen." Instead, such is more akin to what we Moderators already do, which is relay all the hot topics and serious bugs so that the Developers know to look more deeply into such issues being reported in Bug Reports and on the Forum. The Developers don't just take our word for it, they see our word as a sign that they need to look deeper into the matter.

Alas, Moderators do not have the time to properly dedicate to such as we have other duties. This has been made aware by the sheer number of things we report each week (and sometimes daily) and then find out that we have forgotten something or overlooked something else entirely. This is where the Advocates come in, to help and ease such things.

Also, here is some clarification also from Community Manager Akromatik:
Some clarification on the on class advocate position.

-These individuals will be selected based on their past actions and participation in the class feedback threads from previous modules. They will be selected by GentlemanCrush and myself.

-The advocates will hold office for 1 module. Once their time in the sun is up, we will move on to the next eligible candidate.

-These advocates will not be assisting in the design or decisions regarding the class direction. These players will function to collate and collect feedback into more readable lists to improve dev response time and better allow the feelings of the community to become apparent.

-A big part of this is separating the feedback from the "discussions" that tend to pop up in these threads. These advocates will include any and all feedback in their reports. They will not be the ones deciding what is "good" feedback and what isn't. If we find that an advocate has been purposely omitting feedback in their reports, they will be relieved of their post immediately.

Hopefully that has answered some questions.

I would love to be able to give what insight I can into the mechanics of GWF changes in PVE/PVP and how balanced they are in comparison with other classes. It would be cool to discuss the role GWF's take in end game PVP as well as what the changes would mean for PVE grinding as well. I would do my best to represent GWF's in the most realistic light that I can without trying to suggest making our class OP. Thanks for your time guys.

Why do you want to be a class advocate?
I read the forum regularly and have followed changes to classes and balance for quite some time to have formed an educated opinion on class roles and how they fit into the environment. While I do not agree with all changes to date, I feel that part of this may well be due to the way feedback is presented to developers and that louder voices which are not necessarily correct or knowledgeable may be heard over voices, which are not as flashy if you will. I aim to evaluate all opinions, and following discussion and testing where possible, present the feedback to developers in an organized fashion that also aims to separate the changes that ensure the game's longevity through balance rather than "my class should always be better"

Why do you like this class?
This is the second class that I created in Neverwinter after a Devoted Cleric. I quite enjoy the fluid gameplay of this class and versatility in which it can fill various roles in a group. Of all classes, this one feels probably the least clunky and combines fast-paced action with tactical thought

How long have you been playing Neverwinter?
I started over a year ago now and have been religiously playing it since.

Do you play any other MMOs? (Don't worry, we won't get jealous ;)) If so, what class do you play?
I have in the past, however I have stopped them since I havefound Neverwinter. I usually prefer starting off as a Warrior class before testing caster classes and try to create original and unorthodox builds

Do you play D&D? If so, what class(es) do you like to play?
I have not played PnP D&D per se, but I have played other PnP RPGs in the past. I usually choose a warrior class for those. Fight first, talk later.

In what direction do you want to see this class go?
I feel that at present, the roles of the Destroyer and Sentinel Paragons are fairly well defined but need some more tweaking to allow a rework of the Instigator tree to be feasible. I certainly would like all 3 trees to be viable in the game, though not necessarily in the same environment. So for example, I would still envision the Sentinel to be more of a PvP tree (thought at high end gear levels, it could also work reasonably well in PvE, for which it coulduse some more threat mechanics), the Destroyer as a primarily single target DPS tree aimed more at PvE than PvP, in a way rivalling the Trickster Rogue, but ideally not be as powerful at same gear levels. The Instigator ought to be a multi-target PvE clearing beast similar to how the Control Wizard deals well with large numbers of mobs. The difference is that I see the Instigator as the class that is (maybe alongside the Guardian Fighter) at the very front of the party, charging in head first to grant tactical advantages to the party.

In terms of Swordmaster and Iron Vanguard, I would like to see the Swordmaster be the Offensive Paragon that deals more damage on all its Powers but have less control, while the Iron Vanguard should have more control but significantly less damage, with more defensive utility.

Overall, the Great Weapon Fighter I see as a moderately durable close-combat warrior able to deal with both single and multi target effectively, but not to the extent of being a Berserker that nothing can fell. Some more tactical gameplay other than button mashing should be the goal, by creating more synergy between powers. Some of this is already seen in PvP primarily.

Above all however, balance can only be achieved by adjusting a class while thinking about changes to other classes, rather than in isolation, so I see myself working closely with other class advocates

If It isn't too late I'd like to place my name in the hat for GWF advocate. I play all classes and know how each works. My best geared character is my one destroyer GWF.

-Why do you want to be a class advocate?

    1. I am a professional programmer for 7 years and I understand the significance of boxing test modules and test units.

    2. I have full spec GWF friends who are 20k+ and play premade, some of the top guilds in neverwinter.

I can request a team for experimentation with GWF only, and I pulled 5 20k+ GWF. It means I am well in touch with players of my class with who I can consult. When I give a feedback it won't voice my single opinion but my friends as well.

Here is an example and responses from all classes:

    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?774991-5-GWF-PvP-20k-GS-why-a-lot-of-players-have-switched-or-complain

I think consultation and NOT singular feedback/opinion will help create better balance.

    3. I document accurate results and if I am not sure about a class mechanic I will ask.

    4. I have played both Destroyer and Sentinel Trees and understand their game mechanics and build.

    5. I love experimenting new builds and explore different available options.

    Here is an example: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?777411-GWF-Instigator-Path

-Why do you like this class?

I have always viewed my Role Playing to be a melee beserker regardless of MMO. I love the idea of challenging opponents and act with force. (video game wise, :p in reality I am more mellow than your cat)

-How long have you been playing Neverwinter?

    Since Mod3

-Do you play any other MMOs? (Don't worry, we won't get jealous ) If so, what class do you play?

    Wow, Cabal Online

-Do you play D&D? If so, what class(es) do you like to play?

Yes, other class I play is GF

-In what direction do you want to see this class go?

I have voiced opinions in FAVOR of GWF (my post link above as reference) and AGAINST GWF (anti 50% Intimidation feat) for a proper balance. I want to see a balanced class and not an OP class or an under-valued class. I favor good judgment and fair play. I have strong opinions for changes on all the three paths, which should make GWF game play more enjoyable and more balanced, keeping in touch with the intended use of this class.

-Why do you want to be a class advocate?
Video games for me have always been about having fun, team work, and the feeling you get when you finally drop a boss that has taken you time and more than a few tries to drop. I want to help articulate player's opinions, questions, comments, and concerns so that the class can grow to it's potential.

-Why do you like this class?
I've always been a fan of the giant sword/weapon Characters you find in every Manga, Video Game, and Movie. To me, there has always been something rather epic about that warrior willing to charge into a horde of enemies and swinging until the bodies are knee deep around the character. This class in a way has helped me to get that childlike enthusiasm when I get to swing a giant sword around until I am the only one left standing. Though when it comes down to it, Guts from Berserk has to be my biggest inspiration for playing this class.

-How long have you been playing Neverwinter?
Since Launch, I even Beta Tested it.

-Do you play any other MMOs? (Don't worry, we won't get jealous ) If so, what class do you play?
Yes. I have always played a Melee Warrior type class with focus on two handed weapons.
Champions Online:Heavy Weapons Hybrid build is the one I have played the most and have enjoyed.

-Do you play D&D? If so, what class(es) do you like to play?
Yes, I have played all versions of it except Version 5 so far. (Wallet can't handle all those new books just yet)
    I Play
    Longtooth Shifter Blackguard
    Dwarf Great Weapons Fighter
    Goliath Barbarian

-In what direction do you want to see this class go?
Personally, I would like the GWF to be viewed as an Artillery Shell, in PVE and PVP. When in combat, a GWF charging towards the enemy should give the same feeling of dread as an incoming artillery shell to opponents. That feeling of "Take Cover" "Run Away" or "Hit it with everything we've got before it gets to us" An Artillery Shell is extremely fast and does massive damage to it's target. I'd like to see the players who use this class get excited about doing dungeons or PVP. Yes we may die due to being overwhelmed by loads of opponents as we charge up to our enemies, BUT we should be able to at least reduce their forces a bit before we go down.

So... I sent you the answers... but I figured I would post this here so more can see it.

I would like to see more folks fill out their history...

This could be done through an Incentive system or requirement for advancement.

To me it is the difference between a RPG and a framing game

You know what might be better than a GWF advocate.... how about seperate forums for GWF and GF no other class has to share their forums and with GWF and GF having the same paragon paths it makes it really confusing for people looking for info on one or the other.

Agreed, there is no reason for the GFs to want us in their forum. Also the issues are different, GFs are searching for ways to optimize their gameplay, while we are searching for ways to have a gameplay at all.
Still, I'd say that having a distinct paragon would benefit more than having a distinct forum.
