Best companion for non-stealth TR?

I've been really liking this build (though I'm only level 20) and have been using the cleric so far, but since I stealth and start throwing knives to start battles the mobs run straight to my companion and start beating on her.

As I level I'm worried that she'll go down fast and I'll be left without a punching bag to distract the mobs. Since I can get the healing artifact early (unless the DPS artifact is THAT much better) I was thinking of switching to a tanky companion instead (thinking either the cheap man at arms or springing for Galeb Duhr).

What are the thoughts on this? Can the tanks take a beating? Is the extra cost of GD worth the Zen expenditure?

Are there any other companions that would be more valuable instead (possibly a DPS pet such as honey badger or wayward wizard)?

Thanks for all replies in advance!

There's no such thing as a non-stealth TR. The mechanic is built as such that to totally ignore stealth would be very detrimental to us. Even your chosen build (under combat) the author states that "Most combat starts with entering stealth..."

If you meant non-perma-stealth-TR on the other hand, well that's different ;)

Either way, I still believe the Ioun stone (blue) or the Cat companion is the best choice for most TR builds.

True, this would be a non perma stealthed build. Currently focusing on leveling and can't afford the stone (not sure about the cat). Which would be useful for leveling?

Galeb Dhur that you mentioned earlier is more expensive than the ioun stone. So.......

My mistake, I thought that you were referring to the purple, miseed that you said (blue).

That said, the stone is better (in your opinion) than an aggro-drawing companion?

I forgot to mention that I am usually solo, not sure if that would change your thoughts or not.

If you mostly solo then Galeb should be very nice for you, or Lilend for a healer.

Stones are awesome because of the pure stat boosts, but are most beneficial for dungeon runners. Of course, this doesn't mean have extra stats for solo is bad.
    Foundry - Fight Club? (nw-dluqbofu7)
    - JailBreak (in development)

Thanks for the suggestion, GD appears to be leading in the polls also. Wish I had been around during the Lillend offer time frame.

Will wait a few more days to see if the polls change, overall very good suggestions from everyone, thanks!

    Galeb is great for solo

For dungeons it's a stone, cat, or nothing. Having a regular pet will often cause problems because they can pull mobs that the group was trying to skip.
