This. I'm on hold right now, waiting for companion packs to come out (just working leadership) because though I don't mind buying stuff, I don't like feeling like a sponge that's being squeezed for every drop. I won't spend money on gambling, I want a defined return. This sort of strategy is frankly lousy. For me to say that is something, as (if anyone bothered to look at my posts, you'd see) I pretty much love this game.
I couldn't agree more. I really like this game a lot, but paying money on a gamble isn't cool. You should be able to get items that are worth at least the zen you put into the pack or you are basically just paying money for nothing. You shouldn't have to worry about spending money and potentially not getting what you paid for.
I never post on forums. Usually, I just say, "Oh well. Excuse to try something new", but I really like this game. I want it to get better with every release and give us more content, create more balance, and improve the economy. This new Companion doesn't really do any of those things well.

Don't see why people ***** about the odds, I opened 30 Booster Packs x 300 Zen = 9,000 Zen spent..
I made roughly ~80% return on the items I received, maybe a little more and also received Lillend x 2
In total I've opened roughly ~300 Nightmare Lockboxes and received 6 Heavy Nightmare Infernos, and two of them were back to back.
Such luck... hmm... But see toxic, its not about guys like you that don't mind dropping 90 bucks to get a scantily clad snake healer, it's about the other 95-100 % of players who can't or won't. Every casino loves its high rollers, but the odds get you in the end..;) What makes a good mmo great is having a large diverse player base.. WOW is a perfect example.. though I don't like or play it. PWE loudly proclaims that most mmos have a 3 to 5 year lifespan, but maybe they don't get much more run than that because they treat their customers like suckers, instead of clients..
This game could be HUGE. I love the fast combat, I love the easy bank. LOL one thing I did keep from my lockbox run was enough assets to make about a dozen heroes.. so my daily AD input will eventually more than pay for what I 'lost' rolling the box dice. But that doesn't matter either. this game is not gonna be much if after a year up there is only a few thousand steady players who don't mind dropping $100 on a whim just to get a new shiny.. which seems to be the business model here...

You were just lucky man. Never one to take a challenge lying down I just spent every last penny I have on Booster packs. One Dragon Egg, a couple of green professionals and rubbish, well the green professionals are rubbish too if you ask me.
Bottom line, I am now flat broke with no Lillith.
Had I just bought one off the AH I'd probably have some change left.
Your 9,000 Zen is worth over 3 million AD on Mindflayer at the moment, hardly an insubstantial investment.
I feel sorry for my poor customers now since I will need to work the AH for a week or so to get my cash flow back up.

Spending 60pounds on a chance and getting nothing I wanted has left more of a bitter taste in my mouth than I thought it would, I learned a valuable lesson however, I doubt I will be buying anything from the zen store ever again I will just wait for these "packs" like the feywild one and buy these at least I don't feel as scammed as I know what I am getting.
It's an eye opener when it clicked in my head I had spent 60pounds on the chance to get a companion i'd and got nothing at all that I needed, when I also spent 45pounds on the knight pack and will get both a companion and a mount and other extras that I do want.
Always knew the costs in the zen store where rather silly, but only blame myself for falling for this gamble and feel rather let down / scammed by it in all honesty, live and learn I guess!

Gek and Ham I do think I was a little lucky when it came to the items I receive. Fortunately though all my AD has come from just playing the AH/crafting stuff. Gradually adds up when you have 5 + characters doing professions and you like to hoard stuff.
Granted I drained my AD supply on this, once my auctions sell I should be back to where I was, or higher. (Hoarding stuff sometimes has its advantages)

Yeah I've learned to wait on my stable. , its more profitable. I'm glad that got yer healers though, but one thing.. better reevaluate your loot, or hoard it for a month ...because this thing TOOK OFF. With the new knight pack bonus and everyone cashing in zen to get those packs, the GOOD thing here is that asset prices will drop like a rock.. ZEN bounced up to 355 today so you know the ADs have been flyin. I expect to see a LOT of assets hit the AH though I haven't looked yet today. I just wish this didn't brook so much ill will among players. Maybe it makes $$ in the short run but in the long run its not good for the game.
I saw a guy in my party get one. He said he got 3 packs and then got it in an asset pack at the end. He was probably just lucky... O assume asset packs have a higher chance. I'd advise people don't take this post as encouragement to buy the asset pack to get one unless you actually wanted to buy one anyway without the promotion. I decided to buy one. I got a master alchemist which was alright, although for the price I could've exchanged my zen and bought it for auction, they went down in price to similar prices now apparently.

Payed 60 pounds buying 3x profession asset pack and 4x profession booster and no luck, not gonna spend more than that and regret it entirely, feel really disappointed.
Only my self to blame for spending silly money for a chance to get a companion. Live and learn, wont be buying any "random" chance things from the game again in the future as its just to expensive to attempt.
Maybe you got some nice crafting assets in them and can sell them for far more than what you payed for them in AD and then yuo could turn that AD into Zen if you so choose. I know those things aren't 100% HAMSTER and they give some items that sell for 1m+ AD (very rare) but at least 2/3 opened you gain a tool that can sell 100k+ AD at least on my server.
Gamble box carrot with the only difference is that they are promoting the prof gambles not the nightmare junkboxes.
Might look interesting but to sell it as a healing pet but only give it one heal doesnt really make it any better than the current one you buy for gold. Snake-hips looks to have a big heal rather than a hot but it's still just a single heal.
Instead of adding stuff to the promote store sales maybe you could actually finish completing the launch game and fill out the gaps that are currently "coming soon" like the companion upgrade books or the path choices for the existing classes at level 30. It's a poor joke when you hit 30 and are told to chose your path but only have one option. The CW still gets the option to put points into a feat at level 30 for a skill they dont get until 20 odd levels later.

Wish that was the case, best I got was 2x blue adventures... was fairly disappointed just unlucky.
I, like a lot of people I suspect, read about the two companions and stampeded to the ZEN store to check the prices. Thinking that I would flash the cash for a cleric-type pet that could survive the first 10 secs in WC or MH zones.
Ghost, OK not too bad. Lillend, where is she??? Back to article then here. Massive disappointment. All this does is directly cash-**** players for what is out-and-out gambling. The AH should not need to be a player's only sensible recourse, at the expense of others willing (hopefully able!) to spend the money.
I already have a bad taste in the mouth about requiring players to buy packs to get green profession items in order to proceed in crafting - that was bad enough. The mount in lockboxes is OK as there are alternative mounts in the stores. But a decent pet healer is not.
This just feels like a blatent uncool cash-grab - bad PR but as usual the accountants will be happy as the short-term bottom line will show an improvement. However, better business models will ensure long-term player investment and support - this ain't the way.
the only good thing that has came from boosterpacks at least for me was a dragon egg, i have opened 20 of those and only the dragon eggs was worth it, rest was some blue stuff and that is it, so probably this companion will be the same result as a Very rare item in the box, is like when you open them during the alchemist launch, there is a chance that you would get a pruple item and the companion as well but is going to be so little XD i migth buy some to try XD maybe 10 booster packs.
Everything works out in the end . If it hasn't worked out yet, it isn't the end...
Sad the drop rate is so pitiful on a limited time offer pet. They would have made a lot more money, and a lot more goodwill, if they had put this pet on the Zen market. I guess the instant gratification of a short term 'sales' boost was worth the sacrifice of the player base's trust and respect. They seem more like hustlers instead of businessmen.

I thought it was illegal not to give the odds out on any gambling situation if your paying for it???
This is a good point. Anyone here with legal background to confirm?
Interestingly enough for me, I got the companion after about $100. It dropped from an Asset box (1600z)
Then I (stupidly) decided I would get one more since the chances didn't seem too bad. I lost $200. No 2nd Lillend.
Then I realised:
I don't even know if it is possible to loot it twice on the same character, or if you have to use another character, or even what the odds are.. This information is not available to us! For all we know there could be a 1-per-person limit, in which case I just gave them $200 extra..
So sure, I shouldn't have spent all that money. Shouldn't I still be entitled to know my chances / limitations etc with this type of thing?
I basically paid $300 for a companion and lots of crafting assets. Kind of thing that makes you feel stupid when you type it...
The OP has a valid point, is it legal to provide this kind of gambling with-out any of the above information being available?
EDIT: This isn't a cry rant either, more a question of PWE ethics and our rights as consumers.
I love my healer, wish I got a 2nd.. (Probly buy one with AD from all the Prof Assets)
As others have said, it's a shame you can't just buy the companion, a lot more people would get it and therefore pay the X amount for it, it you could just buy it. Rather than a very large portion of the gaming audience refusing to spend money on it because of low odds and the ones that do and don't get the companion they tried to get either never doing it again due to the bad experience or buying at a reduced frequency. No one likes RNG, especially when you lose. Makes you not want to do it again.
And that was the point of it. Their intended plan all along. The unexpected side effect: some profession assets have dropped their value to ridiculous depths, and probably a lot of profession-made items probably will.
I purchased two 1,600 Z packs and three 300 Z packs. At first I got 60 bars per pack, but after three times, the bar rate dropped to 1-20. Preposterous. And of course, no companion. I stopped when I realized I had thrown away more than 40 dollars.

I spent 80 dollars alone trying to get this companion and got nothing worth my money. I've spent hundreds in total with you guys. And then there's the issue with the ticket submissions. Almost a week ago I submitted a ticket about being hacked and I haven't heard a single word of feedback about it yet. A lot of my items are missing.
I think I deserve at the very least to be rewarded with a companion after spending so much money with you guys, only to be neglected when I have a serious problem. I hope you can help me recover my items. If you can't, you're probably gonna lose me and all the people I showed this game to, because they agree that it's ridiculous how we've been treated thus far.
I think your game is great. Sure it has bugs, but it's really enjoyable nonetheless. Please just help me get my stuff back, and hook it up with a Lillend as a consolation prize.
Lol at people that gamble non real items. You either sell them the companion or you don't. Get your sketchy/lowdown dirty thievin hands outta your customers pocket perfect.

I must say I don't think I have ever seen so many unhappy people in a forum before. Do not take offense, I am just as unhappy as the rest of you. I really think PWE/Cryptic needs to wake up and start paying attention to their customers because all I see are disgruntled players posting on these forums. Sure, there is always ONE guy in every thread who is happy with everything. But he is usually the only one.
Finally an epic healer companion and you decide to make it random? If you would have put it in the store I would have bought one for testing. If it was a nice companion I would have bought 4 more. That would be between 150 - 175 (epic companion $30 - $35) from one player in ONE MONTH. That is quite a lot to pay for a game that is F2P, but sometimes I am stupid. My point is..... I have money to spend on your game but you just don't seem to have any idea on how to get it from me. Start selling stuff that is useful and gives me a definitive return on my investment and I will start opening my wallet to you. If I want to gamble I will play the lottery.
I'm sure many will disagree but I do not think the Feywild pack will be very useful, so I will probably be skipping that one too. If it came with a epic healer I would be all over it, but it is just another offensive (I assume this means "Striker") companion and they are a dime a dozen. I have a mount from the Guardians pack so another mount is not very useful. Nice looking, but adds nothing to my game. If I was a new player I would probably pick the Feywild pack over the others.
Which brings me to another point. PWE really seems geared towards attracting new players, which is fine. But they seem to do almost nothing to keep the player base they have. You can do both at the same time. I haven't played too many F2P games though, so maybe I am wrong. Maybe veteran players will simply spend less on a game than the new guy because they really don't need anything to keep playing and in the end they become more of a drain on resources. Perhaps the idea is to get them to quit so they stop playing for free. Is this the PWE business model? If so, I would recommend changing it. Fix the broken things and add items to the ZEN store that bring real value to the game and the vets will spend just as much money as the new guy. I would dump money into your game if there was something worth buying.
On a plus note.... I may try the ghost because it does sound interesting. I will have to find a thread on it and see what others think. At least if it is possessing something else it won't die in combat right away.
well yes i think the should at least give like 50% chance of getting it with the asset pack and like 25% chance with the booster pack , in any case this random companion first epic healer is like only a couple with a lot of luck or alot of money will have it
Everything works out in the end . If it hasn't worked out yet, it isn't the end...
I bought only one booster pack so it wasn't a big deal. Something told me that if I don't play - even once, I have no chance at all. So I tried - after selling stuff I lost some 40k AD.
There is no need to lose all astral diamonds for sth with less than 1% chance of succeeding.
On the other hand with booster packs you get 60-80% back in AD so you can try if you want.
Astral diamonds as mentioned are devaluing - ZEN prices are getting higher so as runestones, for example - dark enchantments. 2 days ago dark enchantment rank 5 was worth 5 maybe 6k AD on Dragon, now it's worth over 7k and still going up.
If I knew before I would wait with some auctions But maybe I made someone happy so it's good as well.

The price of professional assets has gone in the toilet so I think the loss you take on your investment will be a bit more now. This made those Mithral tools I worked so hard to get drop way down in value.

Please associate the sound file for this disgusting furry mongrel of a creature with the rest of the voice files so that it is muted when I place voice volume at 0%. I should not have to silence every sound effect in the game to keep from having to hear this thing.
that's a bummer, because you could have converted the $80 to AD and just bought the companion off of the AH
Last I saw 2000 Zen would get you 660,000 A.D. Prices on Dragon are about 2.6 million and up. (Does math) That $80 would get you approximately 2,640,000 A.D. Which is juuuust about enough to buy the companion. Beriad1 has a point, sell what you got from profession packs for A.D. put that towards Lillend and get enough Zen to convert to A.D. to cover the cost of Lillend.
You might be able to recover a decent amount of A.D./Zen depending upon what you got in the packs. Good luck!

The price of professional assets has gone in the toilet so I think the loss you take on your investment will be a bit more now. This made those Mithral tools I worked so hard to get drop way down in value.
that's a bummer, because you could have converted the $80 to AD and just bought the companion off of the AH
Good luck!
