THE FLAME KEEPER
NW-DP3QEQK88

~ Featured Foundry! 11/18/13 ~

All heroes need a day off, and what better way to spend it than with drinking, dancing, and games? Every year, the simple village of Darrow bands together and celebrates Lord Traven Darrow's birthday. But one villager doesn't seem to be sharing in the festivities. Pack your bags and travel through Neverwinter Wood to share in a unique experience that could be the start of a grand adventure!

-Share in the celebration with gifts, games, dancing, and of course drinking!
-Play your way! Alignment choices give you the opportunity to kill or torment certain NPCs!
-Class specific options ensure that everyone will get a slightly different story every time!
-Expansive dialogue trees allow you to get to know the characters in the story.
-Can you find all the hidden party favors scattered throughout the maps and become the life of the party?

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to share with you my first labor of love! "The Flame Keeper"!
This foundry quest was designed to feel like an actual D&D quest, and that's primarily because it was!
Five years ago, I wrote this quest as the opening sequence to a 6 month journey! Our tabletop group loved it, and I hope you will too!

I've put well over 100 hours into this quest, and, while I'm sure it's not as visually stunning as some others out there, I did my best to add new ideas and tricks to hopefully make a lasting impression on you.

I also wanted to send out a HUGE thank you to Kaizzar Bloodletter of the Beholder server for helping me test this quest over and over. Without his help, I would have had windows floating in mid air, dialogue that ended too soon, ect...

hey man, just played your foundry. I liked it :).
the only thing i can comment are

    1) It was a bit slow at the beginning. Not saying i didnt enjoy it, but i would have like to spend more time in the main story than in the beginning.

    2) Akera. Well this one is going to be difficult to address but... you know, she acts all bugged out at the time she follows you. I dunno how ure going to deal with this but i have a few suggestions.

i)Make her non-combatant and just follow you. Though that would be the easy way.

ii)Another way is to make her have summons. Im guessing u used the guard encounter with recruits and archers and what not. Its possible to disguise them as summons (something firey?) and that way you can have her (and summons) properly follow you.

iii)Use the single guard encounter. Though that would have her using an axe and shield and you probably wouldnt like that. But its still a suggestion.

    Hoped I helped :).

Yes, Akera is a very tricky one to figure out. The other guards in her party do die to a horde of orcs off-camera. For some reason she used to work great, but now she just sorta does whatever she wants. I'm really not sure what changed with her. I didn't just want her to be a tag-along NPC. I wanted to show the player that this innocent looking girl had some real power behind her!

As far as the first part of the story, I tried to present players with a sense of "It's my day off." After enjoying what the village has to offer, you suddenly find yourself back on duty. It's supposed to give you that slow, laid back feel at first. But I really a appreciate your feedback! I sent you a PM of items you might want to look at in Valerie's Dream. I'm off to play the second one now :)

Made a number of updates today.

Reduced the number of smoke volumes in "that house" in order to increase FPS.
Added visual enhancements to "that house"
Fixed dialogue and incorrect linking during the drinking game
    Improved/simplified the 'incorporeal wizard'.
Removed the anvil from the druid ring area (it was there for testing purposes)
Added new dialogue and effects to the main NPC
Added new class specific paths to the final map to reveal a little more of the story. <--This took an entire day
Simplified and corrected a couple dialogue errors.
Added a line of dialogue to Jasmine which will remind players that you can get around Darrow faster on a horse...because, ya know... your horse still works.
Added a new camera trick when examining certain objects. Please let me know if you run into any problems with it.

Wow! Loved this. :D So creative, and i loved experiencing a story instead of just fight fight fight.

    My notes:

-After escaping the house, talking to Truia, the response says "stange orb," which i believe should be "strange orb."
-Too busy enjoying the story to write anything else down. ;)

    Very very cool quest. :)

I enjoyed that a lot. I don't think I have a lot of feedback for you. Aside that certain areas seem to be less decorated than others and my inner explorer rebelling when it encountered invisible walls.
    Very well made quest.

hi, great quest! Really enjoyed it, so nice to have a different type of experience in a foundry. First impression, the floating islands in the sky very cool and so much better than just talking to someone in town. I like the detail in Darrow, Valiant the dog for instance, so many quest just have ' dog 1' and its nice to see attention to detail and the house cat too!

When I was told to deliver the cake, I didn't have it in my inventory, I know it worked ok, but it is just a small point. Apart from that, I loved it! It has a really nice intro in the party town, then an interesting quest with Akeera, really good with a nice twist with her not speaking and finding the golem. I really liked it, really well done! Thanks. Band.

    Just played through this.

    Another excellently crafted quest.

Really nicely done maps, the story moves on (perhaps not how the player wants it to, and that I think is part of the success) and is handled brilliantly. Not sure if I'm supposed to start disliking Kabel, but I am.

Only slight niggle I could find, a typo.

In one of the responses to Kabel (in Kabel's tower, before entering the caves) the player says "You're just full of suprises, aren't you?" Needs to be "suRprises".

So, only one comment, otherwise an amazing quest.

Right at the beginning of the Mountain Path map, if you walk behind the tent, you get jumped by ~4 orcs and two ogres that emerge from the rockface wall.

Excellent quest. My only question; how did you do the parts with the absence of the player? I assume you had them in a tiny invisible box?
