How many keys do you have to use before anything good drops from the lock boxes?

I've now opened nearly 30 lock boxes and still have had nothing good. What's the deal? I feel somewhat scammed. Is anyone else having a similar issue?

You can get something good on your first try or it could take you thousands of tries. It is all a gamble.

Random is random. Yea, the chances are pretty dismal. But weather you open 30, 300, or 3000. Your odds never change. Lady luck has no memory.

    42. If you didn't get anything good by then. Stop.
    RNG hates you.

I added a discussion page on the nightmare lockbox for drop rates. When enough people add enough data then more precise estimates for drop rates can be given.

Depends on what you call good. I myself have given up on a horse or pet and now hope for professions assets and idols. Since I have lowered my standards of "Good" I usually get something good out of ever 3 boxes.

To date I have opened nearly 50 boxes and have yet to see a companion or mount drop.

Well my friend bought 5 keys and of the five keys she got two idols. Two idols = 80K AD.

She's convinced the keys have an excellent value.

On the other hand I just bought 4 keys by doing surveys and I managed to get 3 profession resource packs which is a bunch of meh.

In the end Lady Luck is either with you or she isn't. And she's been a cold cruel gal to me for decades now.

I've bought hundreds and not got what I wanted (nightmare for a friend),but in the meantime the other stuff from the boxes has been a great boost.

Once you get in the groove of lockbox opening it mostly pays for itself, you just need the starting capitol to start opening on a small scale first, which doesn't take all that long.

A total of 30 boxes or so done here.

Pretty good rewards, but some <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> as well.
    1 cola ward
    4 men-at-arms
    1 adventurer
    2 dragon eggs
and last night i finally got a phoera.
Just under 500 trade bars now
    I can't complain overall.

got all my zen doing free offers and earning $10,- gamecards here : <Removed URL>
Rewards are better than the free offers for zen by PWI, and better exchange rate 900pts/$10 UGC
Earn free UGC Gamecards for ZEN here with better rates than free PWI zen
    Current chars : Malignant@jkvansteenis - LVL60 TR on Beholder

Sorry but since PWE can't vouch for the safety of that site it's best it's left off the forums. :(

    Nice rewards, though! I'm jealous!

My first 10 keys gave me 5 idols, (200.000 AD) a 7 rank ench and other interesting things. The next 5 keys gave me 2 idols and an Adventurer (rare). Not bad.

Random is random. 50 keys, no pet or mount. But lots of Leadership drops. So much so that with 6 profession slots open, they all get a blue and green man at arms in the manpower slots. Didn't have to combine anything. One alt got a purple drop profession asset as well.

@Ambisinister...combined runs of a certain dungeon in a certain other game for the baron mount...~400 across multiple toons...Baron mount = 0... Cold heartless ..... who should DIAF is more appropriate.
On the other side of the screen, it all looks so easy.

swap you for discussion between guild on a 3 letter game. I pointed out, I never get anything. Someone said "go on a dungeon run , you get loads of stuff" someone else agreed with me, someone agreed with the other person.
One dungeon run later. The two winners had all the good items. me and the other loser got GREY vendor trash and repair bills greater than the cash we got.

In Champions, one of my characters opened 10 boxes and got 5 vehicles, plus 2 become devices. The rest get rubbish.

With the nigthmare boxes,(trust me on this , compared to the CHampions ones, they aren't a nightmare)
    no mounts,
    no pets,
    4 idols,
    1 companion- dog
a truly odd collection of enchants in varying levels.
    Thats from about 30 boxes.

My first three keys (and I think the only keys Ive bought) have been:
    1. Idol thingy to turn into Rhix for 40k AD <- awsome!
    2. Epic companion: Phoera (the fiery bird). Leveling this now.
    3. Rare Dye packs and crafting materials.

    Id say not bad.

Wife and I have opened close to 150.
    From that we got...

2 phoeras. (both sold, 200k diamonds!)
    1 hero (leadership pack win!)
about 15 adventurers (leadership pack, above average)
a number of (say 20 or so?) of tene & plaguefire enchants (lesser) to be combined (used)
around 10 or so blue wards
probably close to 100 rank 5 (and a few 6/7) enchantments and runes (often, they drop 2, and its most common result..)
maybe 30, 40? idols for 40k diamond reward.

All told, over a long period, at the worst its a zero-sum game. That is, the value in a box is typically worth in the AH the 115 zen used to open it. You lose AD if you get standard enchantments or runes (rank 5s). Just about anything else is worth as much or more. If you get a mount, you come out way ahead. If you use the stuff, AD or zen are gone but you get the benefit whatever that value is.

If we got a mount would probably sell it. It is identical to the one we got with the cheap founder's pack except for the warlock fire wow copy graphics.

this sounds like terrible advice. With the price decrease you can get a purple mount for $35 instead of $50 you'd spend on 5k Zen.

Random is Random :) that is the magic of RNG. Sadly if a mount is 0.01%, then it is that percent every time you open one. It doesn't get "better" or increase the chance of getting it (or the odds) that is gambler's mentality.

Case point: You are an idiot, if you have not found out that lock boxes are sinks. They are non-refundable lottery tickets, basically outside what drops that is it...and you don't know what drops, so you are going to be disappointed every time. Its like the lottery, no you are not a winner every time you scratch it...so yeah, its the stick/carrot method...you see a treat but get slapped by the stick and just don't realize that it will not drop every time.

I gave up after $30 worth of keys. I got lotsa nice purple enchants, runes and tons of AD, but no Pheora and no Nightmare Mount.

I ended up just buying a Pheora for 150k back when 150k ADD was the cheapest, and a few weeks ago I saw an Nightmare Inferno Mount for 600k AD, so I just bought it. I used up whatever left over AD I had and spent an extra ~$7 and got it.

I should of done that since the beginning! Why spend so much money on keys when I could of just coverted Zen to AD and buy it from someone on the AH?

Some country require for real gambling that the odds are announced clearly, when you are offering a gambling lottery, and frankly i think it is a good idea.

Would you do the gamble if you knew there is one chance out of 3000 to get the mount ? Or 1 chance out of 20 ? You can't make an informed choice as it is a black box.

unlike the lotto, you are least get some sort of consolation prize :) you (the general you not you specifically) may not like the other drops, but it is something. It is better than to invest on a key $1.25USD worth and get NOTHING. In lotto, you pay a buck and hoping to win millions, but you don't get anything if your number don't match ;)

I've bought around 10 keys, I think. Out of the boxes I got one firebird, two idols, a rank 7 enhancement, and several other odds and ends, and an average amount of trade bars over the lot. They aren't that bad, but I wouldn't spend tons of money on them.

They have better odds of giving you something decent than most $1 lottery tickets.

I have opened two lockboxes with keys purchased from auction house for 40k AD.

On the first one, I received one jeweled idol.
After selling it (it was a wash, for 40k) and buying another key, the second one yielded 1 rank 2 enchantment and 1 rank 3 enchantment.

Needless to say, I was disenchanted with those enchantments and have not opened any more. I promptly returned to crafting many, many pairs of pants.
