Hi everyone. I've just finished and published my second foundry and was hoping for some reviews to get it towards the daily foundry quest. This one is hopefully going to be the start of a short campaign.

Once Bitten
The Beginning of the End
NW-DUPFPJNSW
  • Intended for Solo play.
  • Story heavy. Balanced Combat.
  • You're sent to a nearby village in search of a Nobleman's daughter. When you arrive, you find things in a terrible state. The nobleman has a lot to answer for - if you can survive to find him. The whole of Neverwinter is at risk, and it's up to you to stop it.
  • Note: Name and description a work in progress.
  • Known Issue: Respawn Point in Mausoleum is floating. Haven't found a fix yet.

If I haven't already reviewed your quest, then please post here and I'll get to it :)

Great story! :) Great descriptions too, well written. Just needs some testing and polishing, but this is a great quest. :) When you test, check your object names and interaction text closely. Also may need some structures or walls around the village to cut off the backdrop.

Thanks zbkolde, I always manage to miss those, I'll get them sorted. :) I'm not too sure about the wall around the village but i'll take another look and have a think. Do you have any Quests you'd like me to play?

Was thinking you could put some buildings, shrubs or trees, or some other structures around the edges, then use invisible walls to block off passage through them. Just something to kind of break up the horizon and bare landscape. :)

I have a quest, it's quite simple and silly. Take a look at it here: [UGC]Kolde Acres.

I've just finished your quest zbkolde. I really liked what you did with the scenery and see what you mean no about my village. As soon as the foundry is working again, I'll get to it :)

Anyone else I can trade reviews with pwetty pwease? ;) Still need a lot of plays and reviews before either of my quests go public.

I can't take credit for the scenery, i used a detailed map. The forest, hills, paths, and corn fields were part of the map, i just added the buildings and things. :o Glad you liked it though.

I'll trade a review with you; if I can store that review for my next release (I think you already reviewed Part 1).

I was hoping to have Part 2 out over the weekend, but we all know how that panned out.

    Ok.

Liked the story a lot, reminded me of the film Ravenous, which is no bad thing, its a film that is certainly in my top 20.
The village environment was generally nicely done, with good use of environmental effects to add to the foreboding.
I really liked (well actually disliked, but that was the point) the Lady Melisandra character.
Loved the "Barricade The Door" effect, so simple but effective.

Combat was nice, but none too challenging on my 19 GF (will try it again on my 51 TR to see how it scales), so would have liked less "trash" mobs and perhaps another harder "encounter" mob.

Only problems I noticed on my first run through were:

Perhaps a little more "window dressing" in the village areas - a damaged cart perhaps, implying a failed escape attempt, or something similar.

Camp Fire / Respawn in Mausoleum is floating - seems to be at the level of the narrow bridge, rather than the central area.

    Rubble sticking through Mausoleum door.

    Burkhard's Journal - is labelled "Book - Open 01".

As I said will play it again on my TR, if I notice anything else I'll update this post.

    EDIT:

Just ran this on my TR (51), additional thoughts, points:

Noticed the door in to the Mausoleum has its stock name.

The final wave of Undead before the Boss has 3 or 4 stacked groups in it, very tough fight at level 51, spent a good 5 mins kiting so as to avoid damage.

If possible add some "Neverwinter Commoners" running away in the street near Burkhard's house, add some sense of urgency to getting in to his house to see what is going on.

Thanks! You have some nice ideas there, i'll certainly see to adding them and some more detail to the village as soon as I'm able. The rubble in the door was supposed to be where the undead broke in, I couldn't work out how to get a broken door without the wall showing behind it, and still make it useable. I'll take a look at adding in some tougher encounters midway through and reducing the difficulty of the final undead waves. Thanks again!

A good story and good dialogue. Could use some more decorations though.

    Some typos:
Burkhard: "seems to (be) trying to wear you down"
    Corpse 1: "though it(')s a sound"
Hysterical Woman: "There's (There are) some old ruins", "ancestor(')s"
Mausoleum door needs a name. Villager stood by the door, didn't go in or disappear.
    Survivor: "Yes, let(')s"

The stacked encounter before Greg was quite hard (for me, solo, 60 TR, green gear). Died a few times, but at least the respawn point was close.

Might want to remove the "lightbulb" reference from the Survivor.

There's some weird rubble on the door out of the mausoleum.

Overall quite enjoyable, could use a bit of polishing, but I'm looking forward to the next part!

What was already said about scenery. Best to start with the cluster drops before adding a lot of other stuff or use detailed maps to avoid that bland look.. I start with the map and as much detail as I deem fit before tossing in the mobs. Easier to monitor the patrols that way and no need to go back to examine patrols later as when stuff is dropped to populate the map after it is complete.

Need an objective when done in Mausoleum to get shed of that default Go To Next Map. Return To Mansion or something (nit picky I know, but every little fiddly bit makes it better overall).

Great story and the dialog works. Fast also so should get a lot of play from the daily crowd.

Off topic since you cannot do anything about it, but I wish they would give us a minimum distance for a follow NPC. I avoid them because they almost always block interactions.
In fact, just had an idea I will play with. Have it follow as normal to objective area, then can make it poof away and spawn anew at the point it should have followed to. Not sure how clunky that would appear until I can try it to judge.

Thanks harbingerdrum, I'm itching to get back into the foundry to add the details. I tried to have the woman follow to the point and then disappear to reappear for the interact 'secure her inside' but of course I had to have a dialogue objective first to start the following. I could only make her disappear right after the dialogue before the actual escort or not at all.

I'll get straight on to your quest in the morning. Thanks :)
