Brand of the Sun

I was testing some things after the patch today and it looks like while my Brand of the Sun spell says it should be 4K per hit, i'm getting about 400 to 500 per, vs Sacred Flame dealing it's full 800-ish each hit.

Is anyone else having the same results?

    Brand of the Sun is a damage over time skill. It will add up to 4k or w/e your tooltip states - not counting crits ofc.

    i'm not sure that makes sense based on the current description. one hit of each at-will should do what the description states. It happens for other abilities, just not this one. Why put 4K if it's based on time but not put a point of reference to that time?

    Because it's 4k total damage over the duration of the spell. Where as sacred flame is per hit. So essentially you only need to cast Sacred flame once evary x seconds permob, it allows you to spread out damage over mobs, plus if you have Power Of The Sun feated, you're debuffing every targets damage and ability to crit.

    BotS specifically states in the tooltip that it deals damage over time. I guess the tooltip could tell you the damage per tick, but I honestly prefer the total damage number instead.

    OK, I guess that makes more sense. It's best used where there are multiple targets if your goal is DPS. I think a damage per tick or a damage for x ticks would be a better way to present the numbers.

    I'd like it if it said "x Damage over x Seconds".

    Either way, love that if the first crits they all crit~ I just re-apply it a couple times if the first tick doesn't crit against Bosses or in PvP~ Love it.

    Perhaps. But all DoT abilities currently list damage this way - e.g. GF's Knee Breaker etc.

    Overally, BotS is about the same as the Spear in terms of dmg, a bit less, but you can spread it to several targets. Also gives a nice heal over time when combined w/ Astral Seal.

    I personally still prefer the Spear. Though if I have the luxury of going full-<font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> DPS, I run Spear+BotS rather than Spear+Seal.
