Not sure, only thing I can think of is that your PC might be overheating. It happened to me a couple years ago when I would play a graphic intense game, my PC would overheat and shut itself down. You can try opening the case or putting a small fan next to the PC blowing air on it. See if it happens then.

thanks for the advise, will try a fan while in game
I don't think you're the only one with this problem. I'm running an amd X4 925 2.8ghz, 8gb ram, amd 6950 2gb, on a 60 gig ssd and I have the same issue. Does it turn off just after the first loading screen or right after logging in? Sometimes I can get in 5-10 minutes of gameplay before it shuts down. HWM is running in the background and I see no high temps before it shuts down. The last ten attempts to log in it's shut down just before I hit the character select screen. Please tell me EXACTLY when yours shuts down before I start buying hardware to troubleshoot. I'd really like this to be Perfect World's problem. All other games (BF3) work fine.
Also, when was the last time your comp had a good cleaning? I was having the same problem with mine until recently, and being technophobic I had a friend open and clean it. Hair from my cats was literally choking my main processor. Huge difference, and problems went away.
I am running an AMD 955 Black edition with 12 gig ram and dual 4870 ATI 512mb video cards and have no problem. BUT I did upgrade to a corsair 850 power supply. A cheap power supply will def overheat and shut you down. Whats yours?
Edit: I also got the 2 extra case fans for cooling. All fan cooling here no liquid. Sounds like an airplane taking off but put it into silent case temp controlled.
Cleaning your rig's innards is a good idea regardless of if it's the culprit or not. Grab a can of compressed air and give your heat sinks a puff, that makes a huge difference in general.
That said, if you want to blow the dust out of your fans, make sure you hold down the blade before doing so. Not locking the fan when using compressed air on it will spin it faster then it's ever supposed to, and has a high chance of burning out the motor. (I speak from experience. )

I'll have the same issue, today i'll go buy some thermal paste to replace the old one on processor.
I'm monitoring the heat, the processor go over 80C while playing, +20/30 from windows stand-by.
This game isn't perfectly optimized for CPU work. Some test i've seen show how with a top pc you still can't go over some framerate valors for the CPU bottleneck, even with the best graphic card possible.
My pc is old, but I've play with many games with higher GPU requisite than this, but here i have trouble cause processor go on thermal shoutdown, even if i use the lower graphic options possible.
I suggest you to clean your pc and do some mainteinance, and maybe you will resolve your problems. And suggest to Cryptic to see if they can reduce some work on the CPU.
edit: olol, if i use the grade symbol (for temperature) the reply will be show as incomplete :P
Yeah first thing I'd try is cleaning out your fans. If you're running a laptop you'll have to crack that fat baby open.
You might be surprised at how much dust can accumulate on/under your fans (regardless of manufacturer...). If it's caked on hard enough, grab a fistful of Q-Tips and yank out as much dust as you can, then use compressed air to finish the job.
While playing Champions, my computer would often shut down while playing, and never anywhere else. I cleaned my fans, and as a side effect, got around 20 FPS increase while in game. I clean em out regularly now.
any ideas what i can do and why my computer just shuts down?
I have a similar issue that is resolved when I use the Safe mode to launch the game. This sets the graphics to a small window with the detail turned all the way down. Once I've loaded into the game, I am able to restore the graphics to maximum without a shutdown. Safe mode can be selected under Options in the launcher. You have to select it every time you start the launcher.
I have had this problem before with an older computer. Specific game would crash while other didnt. Strangely enough it was an overheating issue. Some games just cause more stress than others. Even game engines that offer better graphics. Maybe if its the better engine, it wont strain the computer as much?
My solution was more fans. Note that when adding fans your supposed to create a circulation of air through the system. Suck air in at the front and push air out at the back. When I added more fans(I had 8 in my system at one point) I didnt know this and just threw them in any old way. After a few months my computer looked like the inside of a hoover(vacuum cleaner if your american).
Also fans are the cheapest solution to try hardware wise, unless you overload your PSU I guess lol.
I was having this exact same issue when I first started playing the beta. I cleaned out my fan and the first time or so after putting my laptop back together it did it again. Then suddenly, for no reason I know of, it started working and it worked perfectly every single time for about three weeks. Today, I tried logging on for the first time since the game went live and it's doing it again for about 6 or 7 attempts so far. I get barely past character selection and it's shutting the whole laptop down.
I'm going to try cleaning my fan out again when i get some time, but it worked perfectly right up until last night when I played until 4am, then when I logged on tonight it was shutting down again.
Anyone have an idea besides cleaning the fan because its a pretty big coincidence that it started shutting down again right after going live when I wasn't having fan issues or anything within the last 24 hours.

I have intel and nvidia.
You simply have less older components.
Btw is the 1st time i have issue with CPU overheat.
Should of played STO , it fried my 9800gtx . Good excuse to get a better card !
That's the most ignorant thing I've read all day, thanks.
