Maintenance on a Holiday weekend

I am honestly tired of the groupies crying out this is beta and thank you for being so perfect. Pwe/cryptic you just chose to do maintenance on a holiday weekend there has to be something wrong with your development team to make that call and even worse you failed horribly as you had to make a thread telling people to try random things to get in the game. To be perfectly honest I will be going to my bank Tuesday morning since Monday they will be closed for the holidays and having every penny I spent on this game refunded. This move combined with several of your other recent ideas will lose me as a customer permanently on all your titles.

To any new players realize this has only recently become the standard of pwe/cryptic but is the standard now, poor service on all titles, penalizing player base for the acts of a few, constant maintenance that takes the entire game down on weekends and holidays. I could accept if it was just one of your game titles but it is not this happens continually now on all the titles I play some of which have been fine for years. Now I'll sit back and laugh at all the groupies and trolls that will flame this post glorifying the move and constant downtime in the guise of actually fixing something oh and fyi for beta you still have yet to fix some of the most commonly reported problems or bugs.

Just move on like most everyone else.. I know the feeling... you like the combat/graphics and have that glimmer of hope that the horrendous mountain of problems will go away.. overnight.. but its not. You want so badly for this game to succeed... especially with ESO 6 months away and Wildstar likely as far off. In 6 months you will still see the same complaints, same problems, same level of consumer unhappiness in the forums. mark my words. Bookmark this thread. Chisel it into stone.

The greatest prediction of what someone will do in the future is to look at what they have done in the past.

Fanboy's are gonna claim otherwise of course, as if we haven't seen that in every other failed game before. These are likely the spoiled bratty kids with mommy's credit card spending $500+ in the store.

Wow, so you are really complaining about a rather short maintance at weekend to actually fixing stuff (most companies do this 1 time per week at max.)? And just for your information, its still an international alias world-wide server, not everyone got any holidays atm.

Oh no! They stole me 1.5 hours of my playtime! ..

    edit:
however, I have to agree that some major bugs should be fixed. Some were / still are to long existing.

You do realise that the world is not based on your time?? That the world do not celebrate the exact same holidays as you?? Also just in case you do not realise, there's almost always a holiday somewhere in this world, everyday. Are you therefore asking PWE/Cryptic to not do maintenance at all?? Then there will be whiners who starts whining about server being laggy and unmaintained. So who does PWE/Cryptic please?

Not where I work.. We have servers/applications that only get a single 8hr maintenance window PER YEAR.

it is possible to develop solid, tested code. Some companies choose to skimp, release early, and let their customers bear the brunt of it. Fortunately in the business world this wouldn't work. Sooner or later the gaming consumers will evolve to this point as well.

I think, if you have such a big problem with it, you should just move on. No one cares to hear about your first world problems.

Must be a slow day where ever you are from OP. Nothing better to do than post about a downtime after the downtime is over. Doesn't make much sense unless you just have way too much time on your hands. Maybe you should write the german government and complain about the berlin wall while you are at it.

but. it is beta. did you not read their "state of the game" article?

plus maintenance is a good thing in a game riddled with issues. maybe lay down? put a cool rag on your forehead?

Remembering gw2 as one my latest games - no maintances at all, yep. Only short forced relogs for the updates, while it actually got maintanced while the server was still running. Even had iirc 3 hours time if you were still in an instance - one and only game I saw that kind of maintances, liked that.

While I don't agree with the wish-washy stupidity of having your bank initiate a rollback on funds spent(you spent them, and got exactly what was promised for them, companies aren't the thieves when you do this, you are), the idea of a Friday night/Saturday morning maintenance is certainly questionable, even if it WASN'T a holiday for the largest gaming population in the world(which it is).

When I noted this maintenance period, the first thing I did was look at patch notes. Certainly a weekend maintenance is merited if exploits or items rendering unplayability for massive amounts of the game population, but this was not the case, according to those notes. It was a relatively subdued list of items that could have been done at any mundane time.

As a couple of bits of trivia, my playtime during the week lands smack on Cryptics normal maintenance time(Thursday morning), and am aware that this is a lower population time to get things done and that it has to be done sometime. The other is that, when selecting a game on the normal PWE website, Neverwinter is listed as "live"(L), not open beta(O). While I'm still of the mind that this is supposed to be a beta, it is acknowledged as live by the company with the game.

You are being a hypocrite. Saying someone's problems are "first world"... maybe you should research what "first world problems" mean before trying to pass it off as your own knowledge.

    QQ more.

It was like.. 3 am or later when it started, seriously ?

Plus they fixed a MAJOR CN exploit that needed to be fixed asap.

The games longevity is more important than you being a QQ bear, so get over it.

    Just as a trivia.

First World Problem : A relatively trivial or minor problem or frustration (implying a contrast with serious problems such as those that may be experienced in the developing world), For instance, the agony of walking with dripping hands from a sink to a hand dryer or towel dispenser a couple of steps away.

Your servers are a. probably running software nowhere near as complex as an MMO, b. Don't have as many concurrent users as an MMO and C. Are probably backed up and mirrored to allow for a server to go down for maintenance and keep the system up.

As for developing correctly working code the first time, yes it is possible, but to do it correctly requires you too take into account every individual machine and it's configuration as well as taking so long that your entire customer base leaves out of boredom. So MMO devs are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to releasing content with releasing bad code hurting less than releasing nothing until it's completely bug free.

I really am not worried about maintenance over this short holiday weekend.
What worries me is that PWE will treat this game like they did RaiderZ. (maybe it was not their fault? I am unsure.)
As long as this game stays in beta until most of the problems are addressed and corrected, I will be okay.
I think the graphics are HORRIBLE, but I have gotten over that now. I have not run into any huge issues either, but I am sure I will as I progress into the game.
As far as maintenance, I think this game has it great! Other PWE games have maintenance in the middle of prime-playing-time.
