Why are you guys answering to them? They're just patronizing you...
Actually I think you will find they were asking for peoples opinion...
This serves to kill a little time whilst talking about things these people obviously enjoy, if they didn't read the books or want to comment then they wouldn't do so
and your comment is nothing to do with what they were asking or what anyone else is talking about...
suggest you look for the "I hate everyone" or "We are the pesamistic" threads...
Try looking at the positives before condemning it as a negative or manipulative action...

My favorite is Drizzt .... so many people have already named him though..so let me give you a few that are always overlooked...Thimbledorf Pwent of the Gutbuster Brigade!!( If they ever add the Barbarian class.. I'm making a Dwarven Battle Rager!!) I also like Doodad the Dwarven Druid from Cleric Quintet series. He was the only Dwarven Druid in Faerun, ( until 3rd edition came along.) Minsc the Ranger and his famous magical space hamster BOO! " Go for the Eyes Boo..go for the Eyes!!" Minsc is from the Pc game "Baulders gate" and Boo the magical space hamster also turned up in the Mass effect series. Though I think the later was a inside joke over at Bioware.
Minsc the ranger and his Space hamster Boo, most famous quotes:
"Go for the eyes Boo!!! Go for the eyes !!"
"Make way Evil ! I'm armed to the teeth and packing a hamster!"
"A den of stinking evil. Cover your nose Boo! We will leave no crevice untouched!"
"When the going gets tough, someone hold my rodent!"
" I need aid soon, lest my hamster become an orphan."
For those of you (PHILISTINES!! [I kid]) that don't know, Jack is the protagonist of Richard Baker's 'Raven's Bluff' novel. There has been another published about him which I've yet to read named 'Prince of Ravens', its on the list, though.
Anyhow, Jack is the epitome of what D&D is, in my opinion. the story is a mostly humorous jaunt through the rough and tumble streets of Ravens Bluff. It has, intrigue, romance, action, magic, sword-fighting and a main character that can smirk and spout a one-liner even in the worst of spots!
I was more into the Dragonlance series... my heroes being of course Raistlin Majere, Kitiara Uth Matar (Majere) and the happy couple Tasselhoff Burrfoot and Flint Fireforge. As to FR .... dunno...probably Elminster i guess
