This is just laughable. If you have any integrity and care about the long-term perception of your game and company you'd have dropped the servers, not just the gateway. Unbelievable.
They did not just take the gateway down they took both the AD store and the AH servers down. Not sure why you believe an issue with the AD store and the AH would require the game servers themselves to be brought down.

He sold an item on the AH massively overpriced that was purchased with duped AD
hence he is purchasing cats with duped AD
which is what I said
he didnt dupe any AD. stop trying to say he did something with duped AD when he did not DUPE ANY

I bought the $60 founder pack and have no regrets because I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Neverwinter. Unfortunately I spent $50 yesterday to buy Zen which I converted to AD. I of course will wait to see how Cryptic decides to handle this first, but if I don't feel it's been sufficiently resolved I will request a refund for yesterdays Zen purchase. If that doesn't work, I'll have no choice but to dispute this with my bank.
I understand that the majority of blame rests on the exploiters, but Cryptic does have some share of the responsibility in a monetary transaction. When I spend my hard earned money, I want to have the confidence that my investment will be protected to a certain point. Again, I'll wait to see Cryptic's response, but I currently have little confidence in putting any more of my money into this game.
I agree that a wipe or rollback to the first incident is necessary. If you are looking at this from their side of things there is a lot to consider. The servers need to come down during this time though. No one solution will make everyone happy. It's not just zen and ad that we are talking about we are talking a out the investment of time that legitimate players put into leveling and acquiring things that do not wish to start over. Those are customers they risk losing as we'll. again though take the servers down.
They did not just take the gateway down they took both the AD store and the AH servers down. Not sure why you believe an issue with the AD store and the AH would require the game servers themselves to be brought down.
Herp derp, because now there's no way people are shifting money around to others.

While it'll be relatively easy to identify the accounts who abused the AH, tracking laundering is virtually impossible: You don't have the manpower to track cats (980k AD reservoirs) over several accounts, and you cannot tell if there are parties involved who acted in good faith. Stuff like cats is also why assessing damage by comparing monetary bases (AD in system before and after) doesn't work.
A rollback would be the cleanest solution. Yes, people would get over it, those claiming otherwise most likely have vested interests.
Rollbacks are common in MMOs, both UO and WoW often rolled back in their early years, Diablo3 Asia had a rollback, too. I could cite countless rollbacks in MMO history. It's the right thing to d do once damage isn't reliably trackable any more like in our case. RL sales are affected, too, as founder packs effectively got devalued.
Lobbying against a rollback means lobbying for rewarding the more creative cheaters. I hope Cryptic/PWI can find the courage to both do a rollback and perma-ban exploiters liberately. It would look good to paying customers.

They need to wipe the servers. Its the only way to fix this. They need to refund all ad to founders and all zen to purchasers. Then they need to do a full wipe. Only way to fix this. It isnt just 1 exploit we are talking about here people. There have been sooo many exploits already that have completely ruined the economy and the purpose of playing this game. They need to wipe to fix this.
Well I would hope they would do this before the game goes officially live. However, at this point I do not think they need to do a wipe till they have fixed all the bugs and exploits they can. Otherwise they would just hear calls for another wipe latter on.

The game has been "live" since beta weekend 1... as soon as the devs start accepting money for in game goods it's considered a soft release and that's exactly what it is, i guess they should've waited before selling zen because this might just kill it all. And the fact that they call it a "bug" is not acceptable, this isn't a bug you fix with a patch, this is cancer, you don't simply ban the exploiters because that won't make the billions upon billions of AD disappear that were aquired with the exploit.

2 years ago, something similar happened in DDO. People found they could make and sell dowsing rods for plat. It jacked the prices up on everything for a while, and after a while, everything went back to normal. I know people who "plat capped" several toons, and made bank toons just to hold the plat.
And that was on a LIVE game. Not a Beta.
Things happen. -shrug- Go outside. Play with the kids. Do the laundry you've been putting off all week. Or keep playing. It's not like the servers are down. And if Nwn is all you have to do? Get outta the basement and go see the sun. (Yes, I know it burns!!)
This sucks. I finally got 2 good items from runs yesterday and made 3 mil AD the honest way and bought gear with it. Now i will be rolled back to being poor even though i was honest.
Holy carp can you not read? Using duped AD is not the same as duping AD. Is taking a **** the same as being ****? In your case yea, probably.
calm down sir, this topic is about duping AD. and what we can do to fix the problem, not yell at people.
1. he did not dupe AD
2. the dupe has been around since day1
3. there needs to be wipe

All good points, and your post made me realize that probably most exploiters are non-payers, right? I would assume someone who got the $60 or $200 pack would be less inclined to jeopardize their account by taking part in something that obviously isn't right.
If they roll back I am good with it. If they wipe I am good with it. And if they just go in and delete all AD from all servers and make people start over there I am good with it. Because this is still beta, And thats what beta testing is for. Do what you need PW i will still be plying.

Very well said, and my thoughts exactly.
As much as I wish a rollback would be enough, I feel a full wipe is the best option.
I am with you. I have had no issues with, AD or Zen. Anyone actually getting into a Huff about this, is probably guilty of something. I am a Cryptic Fan. I will be here for a long time. Not for the markets. (which i wish would include more fashion options.) But for the people, and albeit the very rare Roleplay. I enjoy this game and will not be going anywhere. If they wished. I would let them erase everything and start over from level one. (hope they dont.) But Good Luck to you all.

and im pretty sure all those who say they leave if no wipe will be here next week
As a matter of fact, exploiters perhaps are from the competition, scared that Neverwinter was getting so many good reviews and players and just in Open Beta phase.
It would just be nice to know what angle they're looking at from PWE/Cryptic's side. Understandably, there's ramifications and potential fallout no matter which direction they go, but some sort of update on what they're considering, and when would go a long way to easing people's minds whether it be staying or going. Most like myself, have held off on leveling or playing today simply to see what is going on with this, though I also understand the current fixes and fires they're putting out (as well as emergency brainstorming sessions) take time.
That said, I've spent some money on Zen, have poked around with multiple characters and the foundry, have multiple characters up in the mid 40's (could've had 60's by now but totally indecisive) and I'm up for a rollback or a wipe, or whatever it is that has the best chance of ensuring longterm stability for this game. Refund zen purchases, AD's that came with founder and hero packs and whatever else needs to be done, or roll it back far enough to get beyond the exploits, however anyone that's savvy or has looked at the AH longer then 5 minutes has seen the negative bids for quite some time. No, they cannot refund the time back you've invested in this game, however what they can offer, is a -future-. I'll gladly take that over the loss of what I've gained thus far, because I can get it again. Whether I was sitting in full epics with multiple 60's, or on a mountain of AD (and I've made a good share just doing things the legit way on the way up), I'd gladly trade it in to fix things and continue playing. I enjoy this game, even for its rough edges, however what would be a greater loss is not having the game to play at all.

they need to rollback at a minimum...
they shoud wipe and start all over - which means founders get a 7-day head start and freebies don't play for 7 days.
and most importantly they need to make the epic dungeon drops BOP to reduce the incentive of cheating and exploiting.
they will likely do neither. if they dont folks like me that invested in their game will go elsewhere. me and my 200 guild mates.

Same. I haven't leveled my chars to the point where I would cry huge tears if they disappear. As long as the AD & Zen I purchased don't disappear.
Would be fun if we could get a notice for any rollback or wipe please.
I wouldn't mind taking advantage of this whole situation to test out some gear builds and such (as long as I know I'm not risking anything). You guys could also post a 999999999999 Zen for AD exchange so people can respec a few times and test out the feats.

Very very doubtful, most exploiters just want something for nothing, an advantage over other players without having to work for that advantage.

Where did they state that they won't do a rollback because of the AD exploit?

Usually I feel bad when MMOs fail but I have to say PWE will get what it deserves with this piece of ____.
