The is a hugh number of issues with the way loot works in the game, and serious overhaul is badly needed!

Problems:

1: Astral diamonds don't share evenly!
. . This is a exploitable issue and potential harrasment issue.
. . When you open chest all astral diamonds are shared with all group.
. . If you wait long enough, ie wait till everyone looted then they leave, then you can essential steal Astral Diamonds.
. . Reason is you get a fair share of thier loot, but they don't get fair share of thiers after they left.
. . This could lead to people lurking and wasting other people time so sake of few diamonds.

2: Looting takes to long!
. . Waiting and constantly clicking chest only to get interupted is slow annoying process.
. . This is a totally un-nessecary waste of time that could be avoided.

3: Need/Greed system is usless and unbalanced!
. . Everyone in a PuG will 'NEED' even if they can't use it.
. . Some people will be overly lucky and win almost everything.
. . When that happens everyone else loses out.
. . Can lead to player conflict/hate which could of been avoided.

.

Solution:

Change to loot system to a group loot system.
Only 1 person needs to open the chest, and everyone gets thier share of loot seperately.
Everyone gets same gold/diamonds/currency from chest.
Amount of gold/diamonds etc may scale with number of player at the time of opening.

If a chest contains items, everyone gets something! even if its not equal.

Benefits:

With this system nobody ever loses out
You wont have to all wait around a single box for everyone else.
Flow of game will run faster, less tediuous.
It will prevent conflict between players as no need/greed system or exploits.

I keep seeing topic about loot system coming up on forums, yet nobody bother to reply or support the post, so here is a shameless bump

The chest issue is a problem for sure, when one open it should just give loot to rest of the party instead of everyone standing there takeing turn to open it wtf.

Need greed pass needs rework, if you cant use it you shouldt be able to roll need. Im lucky in all my pug groups as they all roll greed or pass if they cant use it. Stil not everyone is this lucky and its a problem. This is well known and most newer games try to avoid this to give a better quility game session. Its easy and the devs that think this is ok should sit down and play alot more then they do.

this is funny statement. Because only people who wants to abuse system will wasting time and THEIR time will be wasted :) So you can chat about it while wasting your time each other.

not sure what you mean by 2. Never got interrupted.. why you are?

Personally I rather do away with need greed compleately for a fairer system, where when loot drops EVERYONE gets a loot item, they is no rolls....

Sure if people want to swap items afterwards thats there choice, but least this way if they are 5 loot drops, then everyone will have 5 items EACH.... as opposed to now where 1 person might get 3, another 2... and the other 3 people do without compleately.

    .

Granted for counter balance mobs drop rate might need to be lowered, but chest should be something for everyone

Say that to somebody in a rush to be somewhere, vs somebody who decides to intentially go afk... nudging there charac every 12 min to make sure they don't d/c

    .

as for interupt, i meant you click to loot but nothing happens coz somebody beat you to the click, so everyone ends up click spamming

As a guardian fighter , all the PuG groups I've been in seem to respect the loot . One time I misused shift 1 instead of shift 3 ( absolute misclick on my part as I was drinking a beer and didn';t see wtf was up pressing random buttons ) , and I took a blue ring for cleric . The guy didn';t say anything , I just traded him the ring 30 secs after . My class loot was never stolen from me so far . I guess I am just lucky .

its only matter of time till it turns into a full all need on loot no matter what... over time PuG groups will encounter loot thieves that always need, and they will encounter victims of loot thieves who always needs so the thieves don't get there way.

So the PuG respect right now won't last, that I can assure you, need/greed systems only really work among organised guild runs where everyone knows each other, yet those people are also the people who are more likely to ask if anyone wants something they found... hence need/greed is simply not neeeded at all

just started playing today with my wife coop in lan... and was searching for a thread about "loot sharing issue" and found this one...

first, gold drop is not shared properly... in the very first dungeon i was group leader and was getting all the gold that monsters dropped... EVEN when she was the one picking it up!!

also chests... since we did not know chests could be looted by all characters, we ended up opening one and taking turns... and we did not understand why we could not roll for stuff in chests...

group loot really NEED to be improved as it is a fundamental pillar for any mmo to strive in the long run! This game seems very promising so far and if such tweaks can be applied soon this game have a potential great future ahead! :)

I agree with everyone getting an item instead of rolls...but lets be honest, thats how MMOs do it and despite the claims to the contrary, Neverwinter is absolutely playing it safe by sticking to MMO formula.

If the rolls stay in place, I could see a system where once you win something, you are ineligible for future rolls until all have won something. I bet people would pass on non-class stuff if they knew it meant they wouldn't get to roll for stuff they wanted later. Then in the event EVERYONE passed, the game could simply randomly assign all unclaimed items at the end of the dungeon...as evenly as possible.

POOF...problem solved with very little additonal coding required.
