I can play with my rig on medium render and 80% graphics with a little choppiness.

nvidea gt 630

16gb ram

i7 3.4ghz

the graphics card is the bottle neck

what card can i get for cheap that will allow me to max out this game?

is there any value in ocing the processor?

thx

Any Nvidia card with less than a '5' as the second digit is going to perform very poorly. I have a GTX 460 OC and can play the game w/ max settings, (and my processor is an AMD FX6300). Consider a GTX 560 or higher.

It really depends on what your willing to spend for what you should buy though

Honestly I see no reason that that rig shouldnt run this game well.Your system blows even the "recommended" specs for this game out of the water. My system is an AMD fx-4100 with 8gb of ddr3 and an ATI 6770... It's my budget system i built for $600... I run this game with every setting maxed and it has run the game beautifully aside from the lag that we all had at launch and slight choppiness for a few seconds after coming back from alt tabbing out...

I would look in other places for your bottleneck such as unneeded programs running and maybe your hard drive because that is almost every computers major bottleneck... I have an ssd.

I have a 1tb WD HDD. How does a HDD bottleneck gaming performance?

I bought this as an Asus PC. The original tower was tiny with no cooling. The CPU was overheating out of the box with no programs running.

I have since switched out the components into a raidmax mid size tower and got a 600w psu instead of the 350 it came with

my cpu is always running hot still, and i did change the thermal paste on it for high end post market stuff

im thinking i need to buy a new fan for it, and upgrade my gpu for proper performance. This GPU is actually pretty bad. looking at my system it looks like my windows score for HDD is only 5.9. does it really affect game performance that much?

I'm using a GeForce 9800 GT 1GB with no issues at all. That card is ancient these days. Almost everything maxxed aside from the view distances.

how on earth? what are your pc specs?

its not just the performance i did a full wipe and registry clean, the 'recommended' settings in the NWN client have render at 50% and graphics at like 30%

i have to mention that i was running it near max quite smoothly before the last few patches. perhaps the patches mucked it up?

My cpu has been running hot ever since i got it. I put thermaltake paste on the fan but it is still a stock fan. it runs overheated on idle with no programs running

im getting 30-35 fps right now with render on 50% and graphics on low

Have you disabled desktop composition on the game's executable?

When you start up Neverwinter does all the Windows 7 Aero glassy windows stuff stay on? If so disable that first. EVERYONE should know and do this.

so i went out and bought stuff

upgraded my mobo bought liquid cooling for my cpu bought a gtx 650 and an extra cooling fan for it that slots next to it.

I OCd the i7 to 4.4ghz with turboboost and oced the graphics card by 250 on the core and the memory (this is the max it will go without crashing the game)

im getting 30-40 fps in medium/lighter load areas but still going red fps around 22-23 in town and heavy areas

    am i being over ambitious?

    i dont think so

why is my performance so bad...

so the performance is still dipping under 40 fps in the Chasm with render and graphics set at 90%

people are saying they have everything maxed with 560gtxes. what the **** is going on?

The reason I brought up the hdd is because your system is still reading and writing unless you have that entire **** game loaded in memory and computers just dont do that... Also a 1tb drive will actually have slightly slower load speeds than a smaller mechanical drive due to having to search so much space. My load times are massively quicker and had a slight fps gain from switching to a sdd over a standard mechanical drive. However a good 7200+rpm sata drive should still have no issues with you running the game maxed. lol

Other than that it appears that every single thing about the system you are talkin about is better than mine and Neverwinter "recommended" my video options as maxed on everything but character detail distance. You said that you replaced the case. Do you have proper cooling fans for case ventilation? Imo there should be a MINIMUM of one in the front facing in and one in the back facing out plus the psu fan, not including cpu and video fans. For thermal grease i highly recommend Arctic Silver 5, dropped my cpu temp by over 5c on its own before it even finished curing.

This game in no way should ever need a hyper threaded quad core running at 4.4 ghz... Nor should any game for that matter and the gains from ocing that(for this game) are probably so minuscule you cant see the with the human eye. Try drivers, settings in your video cards control panel, a good defrag if it hasnt been done in a while, etc. Often, not saying you do, people will neglect system maintenance and can get some serious performance gains just from simple cleaning up of unneeded/fragged software and registry errors.

Anywho, chances are its something on the software side of things holding that system back... not hardware

    drivers are latest

defragged two days ago. Case has side fan, front fan and heatsink/2 fans back to back that are connected to liquid cooling on the psu. Graphics card is on its stock fan and paste, but im not overheating that isnt the problem. it has an extra fan mounted next to it as well.

i did a software clean prior to making this thread

Have you messed with any of the settings in your video card's control panel?

i downloaded the beta 320.0 drivers that somewhere on this forum someone alerted us about. they are optimized for this game

worked like a charm fixed everything

holy **** settings 50ish fps in dungeons 40 dipping to 35s and occasionally 22 when you go in the middle of a group of people in the city. this is a game optimization problem probably and will get fixed eventually

still better than tors launch optimization problem. I knew people with really nice systems dipping to 12fps. And that was on an official launch not open beta launch.

i was in tors launch and played for a couple of months. Had my share of problems - annoying ones - but none of them compared to what is just oversight because their eyes are directed at winning our wallets and not our hearts. Oversights that no good company would make if they truly cared about their products. SwTOR merely had optimization problems and technical problems. This game is full of content and implementations or (lack thereof) that belong in a pre-alpha state. They have no right to charge people for anything in relation to this game with the incomplete piece of nonsense that this albeit great core software is. At least they were accountable, responded to their community ASAP, and had a ****ing phone line. Tickets were answered immediately.

PWE has some 10 games and not a single phone line except a billing one. Clearly shows where their mind is, and shows that they clearly have no interest in customer satisfaction (being that they choose to look the other way and make believe they have no customers since its f2p and on paper they truly dont). 4 Tickets in the last 7 days not one updated. People are getting mail in/from OTHER games shows what kind of cheap buck saving architecture they are using.

truly s h i t company they should be ashamed of getting up in the morning
