Few! ...... Now many hardcore D&D players have played or have played with someone that has rolled at least 90% of the list. Some of these type would not do well in an mmo, such as all tiny and a fair number of small races, and the hill giant might have issues to. However all medium-small humanoids are all doable, and I would hope the cryptic accepts some of the awesome user made content to add these in. by that I mean the large number of skin mods that could come into the game, as we have seen from skyrim and other games with or without the official tools players will create mods for the game while these are all client side it would be great for them to at least leave the door open to people making new races and have "player made content" open to voting and screening to be let into the game. Wow looked at the top 20 of player made mods for wow and they have added all but 3 into the base game.
I feel this is a direction that would make this game a true first in the mmo field. Games like minecraft thrive and grow from user made content and more then just maps and dungeons actual modding of the games graphics.
Edit, Sorry my bad, this is not the fulllllll fulll list but just about 60% the full list is quite insane. Did you know in the FR there are Animated scarecrows? They fall under fey/construct. This is why I love FR and the D&D world.
There are about 10 in that list that would never see the light of day in any of my campaigns. That being said, this is not my campaign. My list would include:
Sith Pureblood Medium +2 Charisma, +2 Strength 7 Normal
Skaven Medium +2 Constitution, +2 Dexterity or Wisdom 6 Darkvision
I will say it again, the D&D wiki is not an official list of any sort. A large number of the Races that appear on it are homebrew and have never appeared in any official D&D source material, let alone a Forgotten Realms source as a race((some are official D&D monsters, however.) Nowhere is this more evidence that the two races I've snipped out, the first is a Star Wars race and the second is a Warhammer race.

yeah I missed those two, The rest are derived from books, lore, and official D&D events and games that players have used. The list is fairly legit with a few exceptions. The point is that the races in FR are deep and intensely wide and open to imagination and creative powers that is what the entire history of D&D is based on.
Half-orcs are already in. I've seen them in a couple of alpha leak videos.
There were also some patch notes that we could read when we first downloaded the game before beta weekend one. One of them said that drow had been removed from the selectable races, and half-orcs had been added. But those were notes for the alpha client, not the client we're using for these beta weekends.
I'd like to see Dragonborn soon, and Devas would be awesome eventually.
Is this true that Drow are not in the game?
I hope they are. They are my favorite race. It has nothing to do with Drizzt either.
I'm gonna rip your head off and make it my puppet! (NwN2)
I was just thinking about the races that might be included in the game. The way I see it they're really spoiled for choice when it comes to available 4E races to choose from. Here's a list of current 4E Forgotten Realms races:
Deva
Dragonborn
Drow
Dwarf
Eladrin
Elf
Genasi
Githzerai
Gnoll
Gnome
Goliath
Half-Elf
Half-Orc
Halfling
Human
Longtooth Shifter
Minotaur
Razorclaw Shifter
Revenant
Shadar-kai
Shade
Shardmind
Tiefling
Vryloka
Wilden
That's all of the races from the D&D character builder list (excluding Dark Sun, Eberron and the Monster Manuals).
Eventually I would love to see all of these races in the game as playable races. But even if they are not I hope the developers include them somewhere as NPCs.
How about the rest of you, what do you want in the way of races in the game?

If the race is still there, why not Dreamsight Shifter? I play one in a campaign with friends. Dragonborn should definitely be added in my opinion. ^^; But one can dream eheh....

Deva, genasi, and Gith are my favorite "exotic" races.
<off topic> Has anyone played any of these races in 4E? I played a shifter in a recent campaign and had a pretty good time with it.
</off topic>
I haven't played a lot of tabletop 4e due it not sitting well with my gaming groups (we're 3.5/Pathfinder folk), but I did enjoy playing a Shadar-kai the last time I played.
The Elf/Eladrin split never sat well with me...

The opinions expressed in my posts are not necessarily those of my employer or Subspace Radio.
PS: My show is actually at 0300 GMT these days. I really need to dig up the PSD for that signature and redo it.

Cryptic/PWE will get guaranteed money from me, the moment they put gnomes in the zen shop.

My first character in 4e Was a Shifter Ranger (Used the Monster Manual stuff for shifter race). Very fun. I had a great time with him.
My Favorite Character was a Deva Swordmage.
I have also played a Genasi (storm soul) Monk and a Tiefling Rogue.
To which point I would ask: Let us tatoo our bodies. We can show them off with some armors and costume sets and a Deva without full body markings is a sad Deva (I want tiger stripe markings BTW).

Still disappointed that Half-orc made it into the game before Dragonborn, as Half-Orc isn't a race from PHB1, and Dragonborn is.
I understand not having Eladrin (As pretty much all elves are now eladrin by lineage) but here's hoping Dragonborn get added before or shortly after launch.
I just recently finished reading a book with aDeva and that race would be a lot of fun(I'd pair that race with an Avenger and never see the light of day). Shade or Shadar-kai would fit in nicely with the Shadovar Origins when creating a character. I played the Shifter class in Neverwinter Nights 1 and always enjoyed lycanthropes. Eladrin are probably not too far off(Probably NPCs in the game already). Genasiwere enjoyable in NWN2 and I've read of quite a few in recent books, the earthsoul from "Sandstorm" comes to mind.
So to sum things up here, which races will actually be playable with launch (if we know that yet), seeing as for instance Half-orc is mentioned as being played in the BETA all the time, yet if you check the race overview on this page it isn't listed.
Also did they confirm they are sticking with these 5 classes at release or would they potentially sneak in a 6th ?

I doubt it. They will wanna add in the Scourge Warlock probably week 2. Closer to the honeymoon phase wearing off to keep the zeal going.

Nowhere is this more evidence that the two races I've snipped out, the first is a Star Wars race and the second is a Warhammer race.

yeah I missed those two, The rest are derived from books, lore, and official D&D events and games that players have used. The list is fairly legit with a few exceptions. The point is that the races in FR are deep and intensely wide and open to imagination and creative powers that is what the entire history of D&D is based on.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream.
Oh hell yeah! Goliaths would be awesome. Perfect for a Greatweapon Fighter!
Is this true that Drow are not in the game?
I hope they are. They are my favorite race. It has nothing to do with Drizzt either.

What Class Are You?
</off topic>
I understand not having Eladrin (As pretty much all elves are now eladrin by lineage) but here's hoping Dragonborn get added before or shortly after launch.
I just recently finished reading a book with a Deva and that race would be a lot of fun(I'd pair that race with an Avenger and never see the light of day). Shade or Shadar-kai would fit in nicely with the Shadovar Origins when creating a character. I played the Shifter class in Neverwinter Nights 1 and always enjoyed lycanthropes. Eladrin are probably not too far off(Probably NPCs in the game already). Genasi were enjoyable in NWN2 and I've read of quite a few in recent books, the earthsoul from "Sandstorm" comes to mind.
Neverwinter Online wiki has the Race list with PHB: http://nwowiki.co/index.php?title=Races
Also someone put together a site with 4E races, classes, power and lots of detail and info for some light reading: http://flip-edesign.com/DungeonsAndDragons/race_menu.php
I don't have access to the PHBs or the FR Guide but from what I can see the most similar race would be the Deva.
I believe that is Pathfinder, not D&D. Closest we're gonna get to that is Devas
"You know you wanna fondle my dragons."
Also did they confirm they are sticking with these 5 classes at release or would they potentially sneak in a 6th ?

Tune in @ http://da.twitch.tv/daxt86
I doubt it. They will wanna add in the Scourge Warlock probably week 2. Closer to the honeymoon phase wearing off to keep the zeal going.
Tiefling Monk sounds interesting. Out of the norm for sure.
